The apex court, which asked the Centre and all states to file within two days status reports detailing the steps taken to deal with the situation, said there is spike in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra and authorities have to take steps and prepare for the worst for December.

Raj Health Minister Dr Raghu Sharma Tests Covid Positive Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma on Monday said he has tested positive for coronavirus.

Lucknow: In the state capital, UP Police helpline number 112 has become one of the tools to threaten the state’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, it seems.

There have been two instances in the recent past when the CM has been threatened.

A teenager has been detained for allegedly issuing a threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, police said on Monday.

The 16-year-old boy had sent a message threatening the chief minister on the WhatsApp number of the 112 emergency service on Sunday after which an FIR was registered at the Su-

shant Golf City police station, they said.

Police, however, did not divulge contents of the message but said it was for “threatening” the CM. Since the accused was a minor, he was not arrested.

The teenager was detained on Sunday.

The mobile phone and the SIM card used for the threat have been recovered, police said.

This is not the first time that the popular leader has been threatened here. In September earlier this year, he reportedly received a death threat via WhatsApp messages demanding the release of gangster Mukhtar Ansari.

The threat messages were sent on the UP Police number 112.

midst increasing expectations of the early availability of a Covid vaccine, there is renewed concern over the resurgence of coronavirus cases in India in the month of November. With over 44,000 new cases the caseload on Monday crossed the 91 lakh mark. Of the total 1, 33, 738 deaths, Maharashtra alone accounted for 46,623. It was followed

by Karnataka (11,654), Tamil Nadu (11,605), Delhi (8391). Gujarat recorded 3859 deaths.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will discuss the situation with eight states through a virtual conference.

The rapidly deteriorating Covid-19 situation drew the attention of the Supreme Court which pulled up the governments of Delhi and Gujarat where the situation is going out of control and directed them to file affidavits in three days giving details of the steps they have taken and intend to take and the help they require from the Central government.

Similar directions were issued to Maharashtra and Assam governments. A bench headed

by Justice Ashok Bhushan was especially harsh on Gujarat for allowing weddings and gatherings at a time when Covid-19 cases were rising and the situation was “going out of control”. The situation in Gujarat was worse after Delhi and Maharashtra.

About Delhi, the court said that things have worsened, particularly in November as it asked the state to file the affidavit. To Maharashtra’s lawyer, the court said, “There is a spike in cases and this is only November.

Prepare for the worst in December. You have to take steps.”

The situation is all the more worrisome because the vaccine is yet to arrive. Among the vaccine candidates in the race, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said that India’s Covaxin started its third stage trial this month boosting hope of an early rollout of “the most advanced Indian experimental vaccine”. The Health Minister also reiterated the government’s plan to immunize over 200 million Indians by July, though the age group of patients to be administered the vaccine first has not yet been decided.

Apart from Covaxin, the other vaccine candidates in the fray and nearing the final round of tests include those from Moderna, Pfizer, Sputnik V, Covishield, and OxfordAstraZeneca. Pfizer and Moderna claim over 90 percent efficacy. Russia is confident of Sputnik’s success while the Oxford vaccine’s efficacy is also said to be 90 percent. e live in a fast-moving world, where patience is becoming more of a rarity. Automobile drivers speed up, crossing the speed limit and others follow closely. Many move from one lane to another because they cannot tolerate being left behind by another vehicle. Everyone seems to be in a hurry.

Patience is tested in various other ways. Many ask themselves, “How long?” Perhaps, we have to deal with some form of injustice at the workplace or at home or just the pressures of life. Sometimes lack of punctuality or wrong attitudes of those around, wear us out.

These and other everyday situations make us tense and our patience is sorely tried.

Patience conveys the thought of waiting calmly for something or manifesting forbearance under provocation or strain. A person with patience waits for a purpose, without giving up hope. Such a person remains composed, does not become irritable or act rashly.

Persistent impatience weakens the bonds of friendship, whereas patience strengthens them. It enables us not to overreact and helps us to bear under difficult circumstances while maintaining a positive

attitude. Patience, in a moment of anger, will spare us a hundred days of anguish. It improves the character and enhances one’s personality. It coats other fine qualities with a varnish of permanence.

However, dealing with people who are unreasonable or slow to understand can be vexing for us. Knowing that their habits are disagreeable, not the person, we can focus on what they can do. Making such allowances will help us to be patient.

Patience does not mean being weak, careless, inattentive, or indecisive. Nor it is passively waiting for the right time for something to happen. Rather, we can keep ourselves occupied and develop the necessary skills.

Brooding over disappointments can make us bitter. It is helpful to keep a hopeful attitude.

Sometimes, our own mistaken conclusions cause us to lose patience. There is a connection between faulty reasoning and impatient behavior. Taking time to gain a full, accurate picture of a situation can make us much more understanding and patient towards others.

The things or situations that make us impatient are called ‘impatience triggers.’ What triggers your impatience? Are there individuals who try your patience? Or are your triggers time related? Do you lose your patience while waiting or when running late? Do you lose patience when tired, hungry,

Greenland is melting and everyone should be worried

reenland is the largest island in the world and on it rests the largest ice mass in the Northern Hemisphere. If all that ice melted, the sea would rise by more than seven metres.

But that is not going to happen, is it? Well not any time soon, but understanding how much of the ice sheet might melt over the coming century is a critical and urgent question that scientists are trying to tackle using sophisticated numerical models of how the ice sheet interacts with the rest of the climate system. The problem is that the models are not that good at reproducing recent observations and are limited by our poor knowledge of the detailed topography of the subglacial terrain and fjords, which the ice flows over and into.

One way around this problem is to see how the ice sheet responded to changes in climate in the past and compare that with model projections for the future for similar changes in temperature. That is exactly what colleagues and I did in a new study now published in the journal Nature Communications.

We looked at the three largest glaciers in Greenland and used historical aerial photographs combined with measurements scientists had taken directly over the years, to reconstruct how the volume of these glaciers had changed over the period 1880 to 2012.

The approach is founded on the idea that the past can help inform the future, not just in science but in all aspects of life. But just like other “classes” of history, the climate and the Earth system in future will not be

melting from those three Greenland glaciers.

Nonetheless, if we figure out exactly how sensitive the ice sheet has been to temperature changes over the past century, that can provide a useful guide to

how it will respond over the next century.

We found that the three largest glaciers were responsible for 8.1mm of sealevel rise, about 15% of the whole ice sheet’s contribu-

tion. Over the period of our study the sea globally has risen by around 20 cm, about the height of an A5 booklet, and of that, about a finger’s width is entirely thanks to ice

MELTING AS USUAL So what does that tell us about the future behaviour of the ice sheet? In 2013, a modelling study by Faezeh Nick and colleagues also looked at the same “big three” glaciers (Jakobshavn Isbrae in the west of the island and Helheim and Kangerlussuaq in the east) and projected how they would respond in different future climate scenarios. The most extreme of these scenarios is called RCP8.5 and assumes that economic growth will continue unabated through the 21st century, resulting in global mean warming of about 3.7 degrees Celsius above today’s temperatures (about 4.8 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial or since 1850).

Simplification is the key to patience. Our brain cannot concentrate on several things simultaneously. With time, multitasking erodes our ability to stay focused. Eventually it takes away patience, judgement and problem-solving ability.

Having too many things to do, too many places to be at, and too many people to stay in touch with can lead to impatience.

Accepting reality makes us patient since things do not always happen as fast as we wish.

Recognizing the fact that time moves at the speed of time and not at the speed of our expectations can keep us tranquil and accept delay with peace of mind.

By observing and associating with those who display patience, we can be motivated to keep our balance. By eliminating time wasters, we will not be too busy to be patient.

So let us ‘slow down and smell the roses.’ Make time to live every moment of life. Work at letting patience take root in us. We will win good friends, make better decisions and have better health.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh excise department has arrested 283 people and seized over 18,000 litres of illicit liquor following recent deaths due to consumption of spurious alcohol, an official said on Monday.

A total of 888 cases were registered in this regard, he said.

On November 12, three people died and two others got ill after consuming spurious liquor in Banthara area of Lucknow. Five people died and several others were hospitalised in Amliya village of Allahabad on November 20.

It has also been instructed that strict action should be taken against those involved in illegal activities under relevant sections of IPC, Goonda Act, Gangster Act and the Excise Act, in all such cases, the officer added.

cost about 866 crores to build this 17.66 km long bypass. There was also preparation for its release earlier but due to certain reasons the program had to be postponed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The second project to be released is in Siddharth Nagar district.

The widening and upgrading of 35 km long national highway from Barhni to Katya Chowk section has been completed.

It would cost 209 crores rupees approximately. The Union Minister will also release this project.

The foundation stone of widening and strengthening work of Ramjanaki road passing through Gorakhpur will also be done in this programme.

Prayagraj Exp to run at 130 kmph with 24 coaches Prayagraj: The Prayagraj Express, which runs between Prayagraj Junction and New Delhi, has a superior train status on the level of convenience, service and operations. The people of Prayagraj call it their Rajdhani Express. It is the first choice of people going to Delhi from Prayagraj. This train has established many records including timing, maintenance and cleanliness in the entire Indian Railways, due to which this train has become the pride of Northern Central Railways.

The latest record to its name is that 02417-18 Prayagraj Express, currently operating as a special train, will be the first train of 24 LHB coaches of Indian Railways to operate at a speed of 130 km per hour from 25 November 2020.

The Prayagraj Express is included in the important trains of the Indian Railways. It started operations on 16 July 1984. Since then, this train has been providing quality travel

experience to people traveling between Prayagraj and New Delhi.

In the last four decades, this train has achieved many milestones which trains like Shatabdi, the leading capital of Indian Railways, could not achieve.

Operations commenced with 17 red brake compartments with vacuum brakes. In 2003, it was upgraded to 24 coaches with an air brake facility with blue coaches.

On 16 December 2016, this train was equipped with state-of-the-art LHB coaches. It started with 21 coaches, which was increased to 22 coaches by 18 December. It started operating from 15 May 2017 with 23 coaches and 2 September 2019 with 24 coaches.

Bulandshahr: The CBI has booked a man from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr for allegedly impersonating as the DIG of the agency, officials said on Monday.

The CBI also conducted searches at the premises of the impersonator, Rajiv Singh, and two country-made guns were recovered from there, they said.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will pronounce on Tuesday its verdict on a plea of sacked BSF Jawan Tej Bahadur challenging the rejection of his nomination papers to contest 2019 Lok Sabha polls against PM Narendra Modi from Varanasi constituency.

A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde had on November 18 reserved its judgment on Bahadur’s plea challenging the Allahabad HC verdict which had dismissed his election petition against the poll panel’s decision to reject his nomination papers.

During the hearing, Bahadur’s lawyer had argued that the petitioner had earlier filed

his nomination as an independent candidate and later as a candidate of SP from Varanasi constituency.

Referring to the HC’s verdict, the lawyer had claimed that Bahadur’s nomination was rejected for “extraneous reasons”. The Returning Officer on May 1 last year had rejected the nomination papers of Bahadur, who was dismissed from BSF in 2017 after he posted a video online complaining about the quality of food served to the troops.

he coronavirus is rife across the world even now and therefore, lockdown weddings, and even lockdown sangeet has become a real thing! With the upcoming auspicious day of Dev Uthani Gyaras, the Pink City Jaipur is gearing up to celebrate the wedding festivities, but this time, keeping all the precautions in mind.

The Rajasthan State Government has allowed 100 people for a wedding. But remember that if you had taken permission for more than 100 people before the night cur-

Where would liver send its fat? As the liver can not send its fat to rest of the body, it tries to absorb it and gets inflamed in the process. The inflammation leads to fibrosis in liver resulting in poorly functioning organ. The fibrosis leads to scarring and finally the dreaded cirrhosis of liver - a real threat to life as it is presently not curable.
