WITH EYE ON 2022, YOGI SETS OUT TO EMPOWER WOMEN! M Tariq Khan

Lucknow: Taking women empowerment to the grassroots level, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday handed over appointment letters to 3209 tube-well operators including 516 women. Gender justice and merit, claims the Yogi Adityanath Government, are two major yardsticks in providing employment opportunities to youths in a fare and transparent manner. With just about a year to go for assembly

elections due in early 2022, the BJP Government knows time is of essence. Not surprising therefore it has embarked and turned the heat on fulfilling its promises, especially the ones that can ensure it a second term. But election is not the only thing on Yogi’s mind when it comes to promoting women in the state. As they say, actions speak louder than words, the CM in his approach to change the fate of women in Uttar Pradesh, has taken a cautious approach and

made sure that what’s there on the paper, reaches their doorstep. The government knows that delivering jobs to the unemployed under Missison Rozgar and empowering women under Mission Shakti can prove to be a gamechanger in the coming elections. Hence, the focus on improving the lot of women, which was emphasised by the UP CM in October this year on Navratri when he announced the launch of Mission Shakti for creating awareness and improving their lot through

tailor-made government schemes for them. Representation in jobs to ensure financial security and introducing a dedicated women patrolling scheme “Pink Patrol” to provide security and check crime are touted as the milestones in ensuring gender justice. As many as 250 women police personnel have alre ady been deployed after intensive training in Lucknow. These officers have been trained to take immediate action on cases of molestation and vio-

lence against women. To make it effective, patrolling is also being done on the basis of complaints and suggestions from women. According to Lucknow Police, the patrol vehicles will be initially stationed at places where women move around in large numbers, specially girls’ colleges. Areas, where cases of molestation take place, will also be included. The scheme would be implemented in other cities across the State. In the first phase of this program, Turn to P6
