‘Attempts to alter status quo can have ripples’
INDIA WARNS CHINA: Beijing must stop building new structures as it is the only way to end stand-off and not damage the peace that existed on the border areas Beijing: India on Friday warned China that trying to alter the status quo on the ground by resorting to force will not just damage the peace that existed on the border areas but can also have “ripples and repercussions” in the broader bilateral relationship, and demanded that Beijing stop its activities in eastern Ladakh. The only way to resolve the current military standoff along the
LAC in eastern Ladakh was for Beijing to realise that trying to “change the status quo by resorting to force or coercion, is not the right way forward, India’s ambassador to China Vikram Misri said in a hard-hitting interview to PTI. She further reiterated that the Centre can-

government take back our land? Today, people are standing beside the army and our soldiers. The government should give full support to the army. This is true patriotism,” she added. Gandhi, in a video message on ‘Shaheedon Ko Salaam Divas’, said that the Central government should extend full support to the Indian armed forces.

Speaking with Soni Mishra from The Week Magazine, Gehlot said that the BJP indeed tried to ‘buy’ Congress MLAs but his government is
stable and is performing better than other states in fight against Covid-19 while also trying to settle the migrants and pick up the economic pace of Rajasthan. The three time chief minister of Rajasthan said, on the question of Corona situation that Rajasthan has been at the forefront of the war against Covid-19. “The number of cases as on June 22 stands at 14,997

ASTRONAUT DROPS A MIRROR
Oops! New junk added to Space during spacewalk A spacewalking astronaut added to the pieces of junk orbiting the Earth on Friday, losing a small mirror as soon as he stepped out of the International Space Station for battery work. Commander Chris Cassidy said the mirror floated away at about a foot per second. Mission Control said the mirror somehow became detached from Cassidy’s spacesuit. The lost item posed no risk to either the space-
walk or the station, NASA said. Spacewalking astronauts wear a wrist mirror on each sleeve to get better views while working. The mirror is just 5 inches by 3 inches, and together with its band has a mass of barely one-tenth of a pound. Cassidy and Bob Behnken, who followed him out without mishap, were conducting the first of at least four spacewalks to replace the last bunch of old station batteries.
Astronaut lost a small mirror as soon as he stepped out of International Space Station for work.
The battery replacements began in 2017, with previous crews
putting in 18 lithiumion batteries, half as many as the old ones
replaced. Cassidy and Behnken have six more to plug in before the job
is complete. It’s cumbersome work: Each battery is about a yard (meter) tall and wide, with a mass of 400 pounds (180 kilograms). Their spacewalks are expected to continue through July before Behnken returns to Earth in August aboard a SpaceX Dragon capsule. Behnken and Doug Hurley made history at the end of May with SpaceX’s first astronaut launch. This was the seventh spacewalk for both men. —Agencies
NASA crowdsources ‘Lunar Loo’ design Washington: NASA launched a Lunar Loo challenge in an attempt to attract innovative solutions to solve the problem of human waste management in space. Participants stand to win a cash prize of $35,000, which will be divided among the top three teams submitting the model of a toilet which will work not just in microgravity, but also lunar gravity. The challenge, in
partnership with HeroX, is a part of NASA’s Artemis mission, which plans to take the first woman and the next men to the moon by 2024. Although space toilets already exist, the US space agency is looking for a more compact, efficient and most importantly something that works in space and in the moon’s gravity, which is about a sixth of that on the Earth’s surface. —Agencies
