‘SIT formed, will recover damages from culprits’ Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Monday decided to recover the costs of damage from the culprits in Bengaluru violence, CM BS Yediyurappa said.

He said that the government will approach the high court for appointment of claim commissioner as per Supreme Court order.

“Our government has decided to assess the damage caused to public and private property in violent incidents in KG Halli and DG Halli and recover the costs from the culprits. We will approach Hon’ble High Court for appointment of Claim Commissioner as per Hon’ble Supreme Court order,” Yediyurappa tweeted.

He was 90 years of age and was living in New Jersey, US. The cause of death is not known yet. Born in Haryana, Jasraj was a recipient of various prestigious awards including Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.

His musical career has spanned more than 80 years and led to numerous major awards.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea seeking postponement of JEE (Main) April 2020 and NEET-Undergraduate examinations, which are scheduled to be conducted in September, amid spurt in number of COVID-19 cases, saying precious year of students “cannot be wasted” and life has to go on.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra said career of students “cannot be put under jeopardy for long”.

“Life has to go on. Life has to move ahead. Precious year of students cannot be wasted,” the bench, also comprising Justices B R Gavai and Krishna Murari, said during the hearing conducted through video

conferencing while paving the way for commencement of the exams as scheduled.

Karauli: On Monday, 4 people belonging to the same family died under suspicious circumstances in Kunjela village of the Nadauti police station area in Karauli district. The death was detected at 7 pm when the neighbours got a foul smell from the house. According to the information, a foul smell was coming near the house of 32-year-old Mahendra Koli.

The locals first thought that an animal had died, but when they searched for it, the smell was coming from the house. When the villagers entered Mahen-

Jaipur: The Ayush doctors staged a symbolic protest at the PCC on Monday demanding increment in their honorarium and regularisation of their jobs.

The Ayush doctors have been on a pendown strike for the last 11 days on the call of the Contract Ayush Doctor’s Agitation Committee.

The agitation on Monday went a step higher and reached the PCC where they submitted a memorandum for the CM and health minister. State president of the committee Premnarayan Sharma said that the Ayush

Man sent to custody for raping teenage girl Kota: A 45-year-old man, accused of raping a teenage girl, was caught in the Chambal forests here and later sent to judicial custody on Monday, police said.

The accused had abducted the minor girl from her village in Kota district on Saturday and allegedly raped her in the Chambal forests.

CM approved reorganisation of Medical Education Society Naresh Sharma Jaipur: The state government has decided to reorganise the Ra-

jasthan Medical Education (RAJAMES) Society set up to run new medical colleges in various districts of the state and create 210 posts under the society.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, on Monday, approved the proposal in this regard.

In order to increase the workload of RAJAMES Society, Gehlot has given approval for restructuring and creation of new posts. At present 27 posts are approved for running the society and 7 new

medical colleges are being operated in various districts under the society. In addition to the recently approved 15 additional medical colleges, other medical colleges to be approved in future are also to be operated under this society.

According to the proposal of the Department of Medical Education and Finance Department, branches, or charges will be set up in the RAJAMES Society for administration, law, accounting, planning, procure-

ment, academic, engineering, hospital administration and IT etc. All the activities including academic and administrative activities, construction works, management of financial resources, supervision and monitoring will be implemented as per the norms issued by regulatory bodies for medical colleges through these branches.

HIKE OF 10% IN ENTRY FEE AT NATIONAL PARKS & SANCTUARIES DEFFERED

Jaipur: Permanent personnel of Police, Jail and Home Guards Department in the state will now be given a lump sum of Rs. 7000 per annum as uniform and kit allowances. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved the proposal in this regard. With this approval, a total of 90,621 personnel including 86,487 personnel from Constable to Assistant Sub Inspector level, 422 from Constable to Head Constable of Home Guard Department and 3712 from GUARD to Sub Inspector of Jail Department will benefit. This will bring a financial burden of about Rs 63 crore 43 lakh on the treasury.

Jaipur: Rajasthan government has postponed an annual increase of 10 percent in entry fee to protected forest areas in view of the coronavirus pandemic, it said on Monday. The government said there is a possibility of a fall in the number of visitors and hence the increase in entry fee will not be implemented for the year 2020-21. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot cleared a proposal of finance department to postpone it, according to an official statement. The cost of entry fee to national parks and sanctuaries is hiked by 10 percent annually. Gehlot also cleared a proposals related to the restructuring of the Rajasthan Medical Education Society for the functioning of new medical colleges. Under this, he approved creation of 210 additional posts. The society presently has 27 posts.

3 die in two different accidents at NH-11

Udaipur: A Patwari was arrested for taking a bribe of Rs. 8,000 in Chittorgarh district by a team of anti-corruption bureau (ACB). The accused Vijay Ediwal posted as Patwari in Bangreda Mamadev in Nimbahera had demanded the bribe from the complainant for some official work. After verification of the complaint, a trap was laid and the accused was held while taking the bribe amount. He had already taken the first installment of Rs. 5000.

The accused Patwari has been arrested under the prevention of corruption act and being interrogated. The action was taken by the intelligence unit of ACB Udaipur.

Tonk: NH 11 turned killer on Monday as three persons lost their lives in two different accidents. A special leave petition (SLP) has been filed in supreme court against the high court judgment. The high

court has passed a judgment in a matter of remark against a Delhi high court judge

n the English textbook, under the NCERT syllabus, there is a chapter ‘The last lesson’ written by a noted French writer Alphonse Daudet. The lesson opens with a premise that during World War II, Nazi Germany had passed an order to discontinue teaching French in all schools and had made the teaching of the German language mandatory. A French boy Franz who, per se, did not have any distinct emotions towards his mother tongue, however, attended his last French class only to value his culture. He very well understood that a country can be totally annihilated when its culture is attacked and demolished, its religious sites are destroyed, its Gods are discredited and its language is suspended.

Unfortunately for many years, in India, while we taught our children the importance of other cultures and allowed them to read chapters on different cultures written by foreign authors; we didn’t highlight the attempts that were being made to demolish our own culture. The biggest attempt was the razing of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The demolition of Ram Mandir by the marauding hoard from Central Asia under Babur was an attempt to do all of the above, to decapitate the philosophy, legacy, teachings, rules, and actions of our ancestors. But despite all attempts to extinguish the spark of pride and respect for our culture, the cultural DNA of the country has not only survived but prospered.

ussia’s announcement that a fasttracked Covid-19 vaccine is registered there, with plans for quick distribution in the general population this fall, is being condemned by scientists worldwide.

Findings from scientific studies of this vaccine, named “Sputnik V,” are not available.

Large safety and efficacy trials are only now getting underway. But despite only two months of preliminary testing in people, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the vaccine “quite effective” and it has received regulatory approval.

action against woman for breaking idols New Delhi: Days ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, Bahrain authorities have initiated legal action against a 54-yearold woman for breaking several Lord Ganesha idols and “defaming a sect” in a supermarket in Manama’s Juffair.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, the woman is seen shouting at a salesman while lifting the idols from a shelf and slamming them on the floor.

The Ministry of Interior, Bahrain said that the woman was referred to Public Prosecution.

“Capital Police took legal steps against a woman, 54, for damaging a shop in Juffair and defaming a sect and its rituals, in order to refer her to the Public Prosecution,” it tweeted. The woman, speaking in Arabic, is heard purportedly saying “this a Muslim country”. Royal advisor Ahmed Al Khalifa condemned it.

Case tally rises to over 26.47 lakh in India New Delhi: With 57,981 new cases, India's COVID-19 tally rose to 26,47,663 on Monday, while the death toll due to the disease crossed the 50,000-mark with 941 fresh fatalities, according to the Union health ministry.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease went up to 19,19,842 in the country, pushing the recovery rate to 72.51 per cent, according to health ministry data updated at 8 am.

As six-seven foot water filled Museum’s basement, it damaged various artefacts of historic importance dating back to the preBritish era. Although museum authorities have shifted them at a safer and dry places, but many have suffered irreparable damage.

Gehlot, the number of coronavirus positive cases in Jodhpur has reached 9,206 with 401 positive cases in last 48 hours.

Of them, 214 patients were tested positive on Saturday and 187 were tested positive on Sunday. Two deaths have also been reported during the same period.

In the last two days, 517 covid-19 patients also recovered while 288 and 229 patients were discharged on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

With 26 deaths during this month, the total death toll has risen to 87 in Jodhpur.

On an average of 147 fresh cases are being reported in Jodhpur daily in August and if this trend continues, the current tally of 9,206 cases may reach 10,000 in the next one week.

ustralian actor Elizabeth Debicki will play Diana, Princess of Wales, in seasons five and six of ‘The Crown,’ the Netflix series announced on Sunday.

According to reports, the 29-year-old actor will join a new cast for the series that includes Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip. Staunton succeeds Olivia Colman and Claire Foy in the role. Emma Corrin is playing Diana on the drama’s upcoming fourth season, but Debicki will take on the part for what’s sure to be the character’s most dramatic chapters.

Seasons five and six are expected to be the show’s final seasons. However, the premiere date of season four has not been announced yet.
