he Indian polity is going through a metamorphosis for the past six years and at the centre of this transformation is one man who appears, always, to have complete command and a bigger hand on every challenge life throws at him. In all of his 70 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been extremely active in the field of public welfare through politics and has made his own road to overcome challenges, against which many else would cower. But, Modi has never been about the past, rather always about working hard in the present to make the future better. Probably in the past two decades, he has been one Prime Minister who has given people hope, that they can fare better, that they will reach the same status as other great Nations and that “Achche Din” is not merely a political gimmick, whatever the Opposition parties may have you believe.

As new free India was awakened from deep bullish slumber by Nehru’s formulation of “tryst with destiny”, PM Modi offers “New Bharat” to the masses that is laced with the vision of a radical break from the past and a more aggressive and profound India.

After having 4 major victories in the shape of surgical strike, triple talaq, bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh while removing Article 370, clearing the way for construction of Ram Mandir and the impending CAA, now Modi’s greatest challenge comes from China border where he has also changed the posture of the Dragon and forced it onto back foot.

Like a true son of the soil, Modi never fails to remember his mother on his birthday, but his life commitment is towards his other mother—Maa Bhaarti.

On his 70th birthday, we wish Prime Minister Narendra Modi all the very best on his tireless endeavours with the hope that he continues to “MODIfy” not just India but the world polity as a great leader of people!

The only way to do this is by upskilling talents and upscaling the wider perspectives

nnovations in technology are occurring every day, changing our world and our work at an unprecedented speed and the only way to cope is to EVOLVE. As a veteran Corporate Trainer, I often advise my mentees that “A shift in mindset is required to thrive in the current era and this cannot be achieved at levels of academia, social latitude or political alignment.” It has to be imbibed at a personal level, especially since the concept of ‘job security’ has become obsolete.

CHANGE has always been the eternal constant of our civilization. Never ever in the human consciousness did we visualize the current COVID scenario of Medical, Social, Emotional, and financial debacle influencing our ecosystem.

Let’s face the inevitable truth: The Pandemic has utterly messed up our Business, Corporate, Academic and Vocational worlds. Educational Institutions are on infinite hold, lay-offs are increasingly putting professionals in a state of depression and having theoretical knowledge in one sphere hardly cuts it anymore.

In my opinion, upskilling is the practice of building skills that are not necessarily required for your job, but can still help to improve a learner’s personal and professional life. It can also involve the development of skills beyond what is mandatory. It obviously boosts morale and helps the workforce select a path to career advancement, while getting them excited about what could be next.

The shift of focus from the Micro to Macro levels in the corporate and business world may require greater flexibilities to envision, enhance and execute newer ideas into the productive actions that are result oriented.

The pre-Pandemic era saw a very high rate of unemployment, despite umpteen vacancies across industries. India Skill Report of 2019 had denoted that only 45.6% of the graduating youth were actually employable and there existed a huge ‘skills-gap’. It was earnestly expected that India’s new Educational Policy 2020 would have incorporated the right imperatives to bridge this yawning skill deficiency gap.

But this global pandemic has toppled over the apple cart and forcefully sacrificed many jobs worldwide. As per a recent report generated in June 2020, India’s unemployment rate has further fallen from a record high of 23.5% in the previous two months and is estimated to stand at 11% in the next year.

Hence the burning question, what can we do to be employable again?

isney’s live-action adaptation of Mulan was released last week amid much controversy. Accusations of Disney bowing to the Chinese Communist Party emerged when the trailer was released.

Many were outraged to learn the movie was partially filmed in Xinjiang, where at least one million Uighurs have been forced into internment camps.

They also objected to actress Liu Yifei’s reported support of the Hong Kong police during the 2019 protests.

Criticisms of the movie include its historical and geographical inaccuracies, an undertone of Islamophobia, and a misrepresentation of qi (life force).

The Supreme Court has ordered the show to be stopped as it was aimed at “vilifying the Muslims” with untruths. The court made some scathing remarks on the contents before restraining the channel. The first episode was telecast on September 10.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud said in its order, “The drift, tenor, and content of the episodes is to bring the community into public hatred and disrepute.” The court pointed out that the content which “contains an attack on religions or communities, or communities or visuals or words” violated the Programme Code which stipulates that the content should not be defamatory, false.

It also enjoins that the content should also not reflect “half-truths and innuendos”. It is this Code which the Central government said should not be violated.

Calling the programme as “insidious”, Justice Chandrachud told the channel’s lawyer, “When you say students of Jamia are part of a conspiracy to infiltrate the civil services that is not permissible. You cannot target one community and brand them in a particular manner.” Just to mention that at one time Allahabad University’s AN Jha hostel was famous for having the most civil servants.

The Supreme Court bringing down its hammer on the show must be welcomed. Else, we could be headed in dangerous territory.

This year’s IPL has been much delayed due to the pandemic and is being played under extraordinary circumstances in which viewers may have to watch the matches on their television screens unless the UAE government allows entry to spectators as the spread of the disease there is far less rampant compared to India. The Emirates Cricket Board is said to be hopeful that spectators will be allowed inside the stadium with strict protocols. So far all sports events like the US Open, UEFA Champions League final, and cricket matches played recently between England, Australia, and Pakistan.

Whether cheering crowds will be there to appreciate MS Dhoni executing his helicopter shot is less important than the event itself. Even with the chances of spectators’ presence being slim enthusiasm is building up for the grand show which will be a warm-up tournament for Indian players who will be touring Australia later this year.

The IPL this year will be four-days longer than its 49-day scheduled period. It will be all the better as all eyes are on Dhoni who returns to cricket after a long gap. Although retired, the Chennai Super Kings captain’s performance will be especially watched as two of his dependable players - Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh -will not be playing.

Ace batsman Virender Sehwag has also said that Dhoni will be the player to watch out for in IPL 2020.

‘KNOW YOUR PLACE’ Early in the new film, the village matchmaker tells 16-year-old Mulan (Liu Yifei) a good wife is “composed, graceful, polite” and “when a wife serves her husband, she must be silent, invisible.”

Mulan fails to embody these long-held virtues of an ideal Chinese girl, and her father exhorts Mulan to hide her special qi.

This masculine power has no place in a girl’s life.

However, Mulan ultimately brings honour to her family by demonstrating that she is “loyal, brave and true” – qualities engraved on

her father’s sword. Mulan knows her crippled father will die in battle if he is conscripted into the army. Taking his place, she leaves home in the middle of the night with the sword.

As a reward for her courage and leadership in saving the Emperor, he bestows her an official position in the imperial guard, but Mulan rejects the offer in order to return home.

The Emperor sends his

men to offer Mulan a new sword. In addition to the three qualities, the new sword is engraved with a fourth virtue, xiao (“filial piety,” translated in the film as “devotion to family”).

The men urge her to reconsider the Emperor’s offer and join the guard.

The film ends with the phoenix, Mulan’s ancestral guardian, circling above her. This creature has been her guide and its reappearance signals her acceptance of the offer. Because her love interest, Honghui, is an imperial soldier, it is implied she will fulfil her romantic desires as well.

Mulan is rewarded for knowing her place and for her xiao: by working within the dominant patriarchal system, she is a woman who “can have it all.”.

INDIAN ARMY READY FOR BRUTAL WAR IN EASTERN LADAKH

Jammu:Asserting that it is fully prepared to fight a full-fledged war even in winters in eastern Ladakh, the Indian Army on Wednesday said if China created conditions for war, they will face a better trained, better prepared, fully rested and psychologically hardened Indian troops.

In a statement, it said compared to physically and psychologically battle-hardened Indian troops, Chinese troops mostly are from urban areas and not used to hardships or prolonged deployment under field conditions.

The Army’ Northern Command headquarters made these assertions reacting to China’s official media Global Times reports that India’s operational logistics is not geared up adequately and it will not be able to fight through winters effectively.

Delhi Riots: 15K-page charge sheet, 15 named New Delhi: The Delhi Police has named 15 people as accused in charge sheet filed over the violence that took place in national capital in February this year.

The accused have been named for orchestrating the riots that killed at least 53 people and injured hundreds.

The charge sheet filed by Delhi police special cell at Karkardooma Court is over 15,000 pages. Packed in steel boxes, 2,692 pages of the vast charge sheet specifies the charges against the accused whereas the rest pages include the annexure.

New Delhi: The Chinese army fired a barrage of “warning shots” in the air at the North Bank of Pangong lake in eastern Ladakh last week to “intimidate” the Indian troops ahead of the talks between foreign ministers of the two countries in Moscow, official sources said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on the ridgeline of Finger 4 where the Indian Army has been significantly increasing its deployment after occupying several strategic peaks on the southern bank of the lake, they said.

11 DEAD AS BOAT CAPSIZES IN CHAMBAL RIVER The overloaded boat was carrying around 40 people & 14 motorbikes when the accident took place; victims were going Kamleshwar temple to offer prayers First India Bureau Jaipur: 11 people, including 4 women and one child, were killed after a boat carrying 40 devotees to Kamleshwar Dham capsized in Chambal river in Kota on Wednesday morning where 3 people are still missing, police said.

The boat was carrying 14 bikes also, and it capsized due to overloading at around 9 am. The incident occurred near Khatoli village, about 110 kilometers from Kota district headquarters. The depth of the river where the boat overturned is around 40-45 feet. There were several people present when the incident occurred therefore the rescue operation was started soon. The victims, mainly belonging to the Gothada kalan village, were going to the

HC rejects plea to cancel or postpone PG, UG exams Nizam Kantaliya Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court rejected the petition demanding the postponement/cancellation of the PG and UG exams. The HC ruled that the exams will be held as per the time table announced by the Rajasthan University following the UGC guidelines.

Replying to the petition by Tej Kumar Yadav, the state government and Rajasthan University stated that some exams had already been held in March, and the pattern can’t be changed at this

stage.

Counsel for the government said that, even earlier, examinations with proper precautions have been held and the Supreme Court had already rejected such petitions.

When the petitioner realized the direction court was taking, they withdrew the petition.

Chief Justice Indrajit Mohanty and Justice Prakash Gupta quashed the petition after this.

It is noteworthy, that the petition had demanded either the postponement of the examinations or it to be held online.

The state government passed the ordinance on September 4 to amend the Odisha Universities Act, 1989 without any discussion in the state Assembly, he said in a letter to Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

Pradhan, who hails from Odisha, said the “unprecedented” amendment seeks to completely upend the higher education ecosystem in the state and has been criticised by its academic community for the drastic and regressive changes.

New Delhi: Tata Projects Limited on Wednesday won the bid to construct a new parliament building at a cost of Rs 861.90 crore, officials said.

The new building will be constructed close to the existing one under the Central Vista redevelopment project.

It is expected to be completed in 21 months from the start of con-

“Tata Projects Limited has won the contract to build a new parliament building at a cost of Rs 861.9 crore,” an official said, adding the project cost also includes maintenance works. L&T Ltd had submitted a bid of

Jaipur: Reiterating his demand of lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore on Wednesday said that the medical and health department has not done contact tracing to identify super spreaders.

He said that more than one lakh positive cases have been reported in the state and nearly 87,000 were recovered.

Rathore said no contact tracing has been done by the health department with regard to the active cases so that it could be identified who are the super spreaders.

He said that a lockdown is required to contain the spread.

The BJP leader also questioned lifting the ban from transfers, saying the exercise for transfers should not take place in the present circumstances.

Jaipur: In a strict move against corruption, urban development and housing minister Shanti Dhariwal has directed that no site inspection will be conducted by officials in the cases of name transfer of

property.

If the practice continues of site inspection, which is not in rules, suspension orders will be issued.

Complaints were made to the minister that the JDA and local body officials conduct site inspections in the

During the inspection, the employee cites illegal construction or points out some fault which may create problems in the name transfer.

To settle the matter, the applicant has to “serve” the officials.

On reducing COVID-19 testing rates in private labs and hospitals, the former health minister said that the government should have taken the private hospitals and labs in confidence before taking the decision or should have given subsidy to them.

Opposing the change in uniform for government school students, he demanded from the government to postpone the decision for one academic session arguing that it will put a burden of Rs 470 crore on the parents of nearly 75 lakh students.

Panel concludes findings on contractual employees issues First India Bureau Jaipur: A cabinet subcommittee formed to look into the issues of contractual employees has completed its findings and will now draft its recommendations to be forwarded to the chief minister Ashok Gehlot.

In a meeting of the

committee, officials were asked whether the figures and facts provided to the committee are final or may be amended later.

The contractual workers are demanding regularisation in the government.

Now, the committee will finalise its decision based on the de-

tails provided by officials and will forward the report to the CM. The report will also be presented in the cabinet for a decision.

ACB nabs 3 including forest ranger, patwari for taking bribe First India Bureau Baran/Pali: In separate incidents, three people were arrested by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting bribe.

In the first incident, a ranger of the forest department and his driver were nabbed taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 to release a tractor in Baran.

Ravi Kumar Nama posted in the Nahargarh range had seized the tractor of one Dharmendra nearly a month ago.

He was demanding the bribe amount in addition to the fine to release the vehicle, ACB CI in Baran, Gyan Chand Meena said.

Yogesh Sharma Jaipur: Acting on the feedback received during party meeting, the Congress government has lifted the ban from transfers in the state from September 15.

Employees seeking transfers will have to apply online on the department’s website due to coronavirus spread. The transfer process will continue till October 31.

The government has advised the employees to not submit applications on paper because all the transfers will be online and no application on paper will be accepted or considered.

The order of transfer is applicable for all corporations, boards and the model code of conduct for panchayat elections will be followed.

However, transfers of third-grade teachers will have to wait for the next 2-3 days. The education minister Govind Singh Dotasra said that the transfer process will start after 2-3 days in the education department and all the transfers will be done online.

The teachers can apply for transfers on Shikshan Shala Darpan’ s staff corner. Congress MLAs had demanded lifting ban from transfers during feedback meetings. The ban on transfer was imposed from September 30, 2019 by an order issued on September 10.

Jaipur: Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Shrama on Wednesday, flagged off five bike ambulances or first responder vehicles provided by Hero MotoCorp under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The bike ambulances would be helpful in taking patients to the hospital from the narrow streets and narrow roads of the city, where 108 or ambulances cannot reach, the minister said.

Trained nursing staff will operate the vehicles.

The Minister further said that there are plans to run these bike ambulances in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer city soon.

The first phase will see the election of 1,003 sarpanch and 9,355 ward panchs. According to the schedule released, nominations will be accepted on September 19 from 10 am to 5 pm with a deadline for withdrawal of names till 3 pm on September 20. After the scrutiny of nominations from 10 am to 3 pm, the symbols will be allotted the same day from 3 pm onwards.

Jaipur: A Gehlot loyalist & Mining Minister Pramod Jain Bhaya’s surprise visit on Wednesday afternoon to Sachin Pilot’s residence, raised eyebrows both in Gehlot and Pilot camps and everyone was curious to know what had inspired Bhaya to visit his old mentor? Incidentally, Bhaya happens to be the only Gehlot camp minister to visit Pilot after the recent political crisis.

DC DR MALIK GUNS FOR CLEAN, TRANSPARENT DIVISION Kaushal Jain Ajmer: In the current scheme of things, post of Divisional Commissioner is usually seen as akin to a postman’s, i.e. to convey letter of district administration to state government and order of state government to subordinate District Collectors. This is so since government too has given more powers to District Collectors than Divisional Commissioner and as a result in many places, there are clashes between DC and Collector.

Malik, DC of Ajmer division, is forging her own identity. On July 9, Dr Malik took over as DC of Ajmer and during the past two months, 23,000 new poor & needy have received benefit of pension in the four districts of the division namely Ajmer, Tonk, Bhilwara and Nagaur.

Under this scheme, the elderly, widows, disabled etc. get pension of Rs 750 per month. If the age of children of a widow and disabled person is less than 18 years, then Rs 1,000 per month per child is given from “Paalanhaar” scheme.

Interestingly, as soon as she became DC of Ajmer, she started the pension related work as a campaign. The SDO and Tehsildars of the four districts were instructed to set up camps in the villages. Collectors were sent for a surprise check of the camps.

Dr Malik gave the example of Chhotu Bairwa, resident of Danthal village in Bhilwara district. Chhotu, a deaf person, got a pension and along with his two young children, was sanctioned Rs 1,000 under Palanhaar Scheme.

“Due to lack of information, thousands of people can be denied pension. Such people can contact Patwari of their area. If there is any problem at level of SDO and Collector, anyone can come directly to

DC’s. No laxity will be tolerated in pension cases,” Dr Malik said.

Coming from rural background, she knows the condition of common roads in villages.

Those with slight power in villages, force the

roads to be blocked leading to public places. “As soon as I took over, I reviewed the cases related to the common routes. So far, over 1, 200 common routes have been opened by giving instructions to the concerned authorities,” she said, adding, “Mrityu Bhoj is another social evil prevalent in the rural areas but the administration has stopped the villagers at more than 200 places in the four districts.”

Notably, the district councils have common complaints of unpaid

dues. It is alleged that bills of “recommended” contractors get paid quickly. Many times, payments are not made after having money in the account. In view of all these complaints, the Gram Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti wise online data has been prepared for the outstanding bills. Now, the contractor whose bill comes first will be paid first. Similarly, the work of monitoring the deposits in Zilla Parishad accounts is also being done.

campaign is being started from September 16 in all the four districts of the division. Under this campaign, wards of government hospitals will be adopted by NGOs & Bhamashahs.

Dr Malik said that the government provides most of the facilities for hospitalised patients, however, they still need some more facilities.

The wards of the government hospital will have proper facilities and the wards will be adopted so that maintenance is done in an effective manner.

t seems to me that it has always been the songs that have brought me to the movie and understandably so, I adore Bollywood music.

Most of us have grown up humming these songs on the radio and playing games of Antakshri on our meandering train travels and picnics.

It was the sweet desperation of Kishore Kumar when he sang ‘Ek dui teen char- de de mera paanch rupaiyya barah anna” that brought me to Chalti ka Naam Gaadi.

CKNG – would be how it would be called today in the era of abbreviations is close to 3 hours of non-stop breezy FUN. The entry scene of the trio of Ganguly nee Kumar brothers – the sauve…oh so good looking Ashok Kumar, understated Anoop and mast Kishore sets the stage for a rollicking ride. Ek Ladki bheegi bhaagi si, hum the wo thi aur sama rangeen, babu samjho ishaare and haal kaisa hai jnaab ka - each song is a delight to hear and watch.

Kishore Kumar has definitely outdone himself.

Like everyone else I fell in love with Madhubala,

she was gorgeous with her sexy alluring full-blown laughter, amazing comic timing and perfect beauty. She matched Kishore Kumar in every instance of his over the top acting in this rollercoaster of a movie. My favourite scene is where they both

keep on giggling to throw the villain off, even as they share secrets.

The movie moves crazily from one scene to another characterised by the sizzling chemistry between the stars.

The woman hating Manmohan, the shy Jaggu and Man-

nu – all are in their element.

I found the women characters amazing, they are strong, independent and forthright, none of that helpless maiden or waiting for the man to make a move for them. And I love it that Madhubala’s father says that he will not do ANYTHING against the wish of his daughter.

It is fitting that the movie starts with the car stalled with three brothers and ends with them and their lady loves in Champion- THE CAR- moving with balloons, a song and love, with Madhubala at the wheel.

When I think that Kishore had actually hoped that the movie would flop due to income tax reasons I am amazed, it is one the best movies ever made!
