Two officials of Indian High Commission Islamabad/New Delhi: Two officials of Indian High Commission in Pakistan, who went missing and were reportedly arrested earlier on Monday, have been released and are back at the Indian mission, sources said on Monday.

2 MINOR EARTHQUAKES STRIKE GUJARAT’S BHACHAU REGION

New Delhi: Gujarat on Monday experienced two minor earthquakes at around 1 pm, a day after the region was hit by a 5.5 magnitude quake. The 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck 15 kilometers NorthNorth East of Bhachau at 12:57 pm. It was followed by another jolt of 3.6 magnitude about 11 km of Bhachau at 1.01 pm.

CBI alerts states, UTs over fake sanitisers New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday issued alerts to states and Union Territories (UTs) about instances of online advance payment frauds and sale of fake hand sanitisers.

The alerts have been issued on the basis of inputs received from Interpol -- the international criminal police organisation that facilitates worldwide police

cooperation and crime control.

“The CBI has issued an alert regarding the proliferation of online advance payment scams. Such scams involve instances of criminals approaching as vendors of PPE and other protective equipment suppliers related to pandemic and entering business transactions with clients online,” the agency said in a statement.

Has JDA forgotten Ring Road Project?

JDA is negligent of this project with revenue loss anywhere between ` 2,500-3,000 cr for itself Abhishek Srivastava / Nirmal Tiwari Jaipur: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) seems to have risen above the established system in the state otherwise how else is it possible for it to ignore the instructions by Chief Secretary DB Gupta and UDH Minister Shanti Dhariwal themselves?

JDA might be boasting of many developmental activities but apparently the most crucial one- the 'Ring Road' project- doesn’t feature on its priority list. What is even stranger is that JDA is negligent of this ambitious project with loss of revenue anywhere between

Rs 2,500-3,000 crore for itself.

This all is happening due to the inability of the JDA to execute an Rs 860 crore project on Agra road just due to its inefficiency in not being able to acquire a 3200 sq meter land in possession of Reliance where it operates a fuel disposal outlet. This 3200 sq meter patch lies exactly in the middle of the proposed cloverleaf as per the designs of the ring road.

Since the land isn’t still in JDA’s possession so it can’t hand over the same to NHAI, which, as a result, can’t float tenders for the proposed cloverleaf. The JDA is still harping on the old tune that the

Centre allocates `2,522 cr to Raj under water scheme New Delhi: The central government has allocated Rs 2,522 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme for Rajasthan in view of water scarcity problems and groundwater pollution in the state, which is almost two-and-ahalf times the amount given in the last fiscal.

"While Rs 1,051 crore was given to Rajasthan in the last financial year, Rs 2,522 crore has been allocated under the Jal Jeevan Mission

this year, which is almost two-and-a-half times the allocation made in the last fiscal," a Jal Shakti Ministry statement said.

The Ministry said Rs 1,145 crore were also allocated to provide drinking water to fluoride-affected habitations in the desert state.

Out of this, the 90-meter wide Transport Corridor will have 42 lakh 30 thousand sq meters.

4 lakh 30 thousand sq meters will be given as compensation to the landowners in the form of 25% developed land.

50 lakh 76 Thousand sq meter land is reserved for facilities area. So finally, JDA will have 33 lakh 84 Thousand sq meters of land for auction. If it is calculated at an approximate price of Rs 6000/meter then JDA will receive at least more than Rs 2000 crore.

‘Set up flood control rooms without delay’ Shivendra Parmar Jaipur: District collector Dr Jogaram has asked district officials of various departments to conduct more field visits to resolve people’s problems. He took a meeting of PHED, Municipal Corporation, JVVNL, health, forest and mining, and many other departments.

He was not pleased that many departments have not set up a flood control room until Monday.

ficials to visit Tehsils and blocks not just Jaipur city as people may have work pending or problems because of COVID-19. He told PHED officials to give the live locations of available water tankers. Also, he asked them to take samples regularly to maintain water quality.

Over `1.73 cr recovered as fine from 95,000 lockdown violators in Raj First India Bureau Jaipur: Under the Rajasthan Pandemic Ordinance, more than Rs 1.73 crore has been collected from challans of 95,000 people.

Among them, more than 50,000 challans were issued for not wearing masks, another 38,000 for not maintaining social distancing, 360 for spitting in public places, 130 for drinking alcohol, and more than 200 for consuming tobacco publicly.

Jaipur: The meeting held by Chief Secretary DB Gupta regarding Rajasthan Transport Infrastructure Development Fund (RTIDF) on Monday took the big decision of starting 100 electrical buses in the city.

It was decided that the state govt will fill in the viability gap fund of Rs 36.50 crore for this purpose. The buses to be operated

Lower courts open gates, HC cancels vacation

Jaipur: Lower courts began regular work on Monday. HC had cancelled summer vacations as corona had affected court functioning for 80 days.

However, only those lawyers who had hearing were allowed to enter. Some cases are heard through video conferencing. On HC’s order, entire staff came to courts. Only those from containment zone were allowed to stay home.

Jaipur: Universities will have to prepare an action plan regarding COVID-19 in the adopted villages, instructed Governor and Chancellor Kalraj Mishra. He wrote to Vice Chancellors of all the state universities, instructing them to take measures regarding the prevention and control of the infection in the adopted villages.

DEATH SNATCHES A TALENTED CINE ACTOR

t will be inappropriate to repeat the clichéd ‘those whom God loves, die young’ for the talented Sushant Singh Rajput for the simple reason that his was not a case of natural death. He was only 34, too young to die the way he did and leave his family, fans and fellow actors mourning. Sushant committed suicide by hanging on Sunday, June 14.

On June 3, 2020 Sushant Singh Rajput remembered his mother in an emotional Instagram post. He wrote, “Blurred past evaporating from teardrops/ Unending dreams carving an arc of smile/and a fleeting life, negotiating between the two…Maa”. The post had 2,523,472 likes and garnered over 1.5 lakh comments. He had 11.2 million followers on Instagram, yet somewhere deep down he was lonely. That makes one thing clear, virtual world offers no support to a tormented mind.

The young strapping actor who gained fame, but no recognition from a nepotism-infested film industry, for essaying memorable roles in Chhichhore, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kai Po Che, Kedarnath, Raabta and a few others, tragically ended his life one doesn’t know why.

Some say he was suffering from depression as he did not get due recognition from an industry. Others like Kangana Ranaut blame mafia-like groups which have a stranglehold on the film industry and ensure that artistes not in their camp are hounded out as the cause.

His shocked co-actors and fans find it hard to believe that Sushant committed suicide as it went against what he said in Chhichhore. In the film Sushant plays an engineer whose son tries to commit suicide by jumping off a high rise. To aid his son’s recovery, he recounts his own journey as an engineering student and how he overcame odds with the help of friends.

The message he conveys through the film was not to commit suicide in any situation. Ironically in real life Sushant could not fight the demons in his mind, and those out hurting the morale of young artistes in Bollywood.

Sushant was a man of varied interests, astrophysics being one of them. He was a science buff, wrote director Abhishek Kapoor. He concluded his note with, “stay interstellar”. An astrophysicist Dr Karan Jani had this to say, “Our conversations would go into the abstracts from String theory to Sartre…I rarely get such insightful conversations…”

Whatever may have led Sushant to take the extreme step, the fact is that depression is the second leading cause of death in India. The problem with depression is that many people shy away from mentioning it, while others are unaware of the condition which is often confused with sadness and pessimism.

Sushant has passed on to join other stars on the firmament. A quote aptly describes his demise, “Destiny plays its cards in a way that no one can comprehend.” The show will go on.

CA Raghavan made a name for himself as a distinguished diplomat representing the country as the High Commissioner to Pakistan and Singapore, both countries with strong historical connections to India. His book on Pakistan ‘ The People Next Door: The Curious History of India’s Relations with Pakistan’ is hailed as a classic story of two nations divided by contesting ideologies and an arbitrary line which takes no account of natural alignments. Earlier his work ‘Attendant Lords: Bairam Khan and Abdur Rahim, Courtiers and Poets in Mughal India’ received the Habib Memorial Prize from the Indian History Congress in 2017.

Post his superannuation, as Chairman of the ICWA he is still very active in the academic and literary circuits giving regular talks and presentations on issues concerning India’s neighbourhood and her security. But this column is to discuss another dimension: that of TCA Raghavan as a professional historian, and his tribute to three distinguished history scholars: Jadunath Sarkar, GS Sardesai, and Raghubir Sinh. As students of history, we are aware of the seminal contributions of all three of them: Jadunath Sarkar (1870-1958) on the Mughals, GS Sardesai (1865-1959) on the Marathas and Raghubir Sinh (1908-1991) on the Rajputs. History Men is a tribute to the historical scholarship, collaboration, and friendship between these three scholars of Indian history, but also shows and highlights the various factions of the Indian History Congress, the public and private scandals of the university system, the petty intrigue, and cunning employed by colleagues to oust each other from government committees and public honours.

Although Sardesai was the eldest of the three, it was Jadunath Sarkar who was

the centre of this triangular association with the bulk of the extant correspondence consisting of letters between him and GS Sardesai on one axis, and with Raghubir Sinh on the other. We have fewer letters between Sardesai and Sinh. Their collaboration was for understanding India’s past in the later Mughal period, and this required that Sarkar had access to records of the Maratha sources, and Sardesai for the Persian sources on Marathas as the two forces were opposed to each other, but also intertwined.

Raghubir’s research was on Malwa in Transition or a Century of Anarchy (16981766). So their interests and their tracts were quite complementary.

Sardesai had joined the service of Baroda state immediately after his graduation from Elphinstone College in 1888 and was soon asked to be the tutor to the young prince, but his passion for historical research was so strong that he sought retirement after putting in 37 years as Sardesai master.

He moved to Kamshet, in 1925 as a small village near Pune where his brother, a doctor had built a bungalow, and he wrote the eight-volume Marathi Riyasat and the two-volume British Riyasat, which established his reputation in Maratha history – within the state, but it was his lecture on Maratha History at

Film director Alfred Hitchcock is at his commercial and critical peak after the successes of Vertigo (1958) and North by Northwest (1959). So what does he do next? A black-and-white madefor-TV movie hastily shot, with no big-name actors and a leading actress who takes a shower, and … well, we’ll come to that.

Psycho (1960) remains Hitchcock’s most celebrated film. But it is really two films, glued together by the most iconic scene in cinema history.

Part one is a run-ofthe-mill morality tale.

Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) steals $40,000 from her Phoenix employee, and goes on the run. Guilt-stricken, she

pulls into a deserted motel and chats with the owner, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins).

He seems friendly enough – he makes her sandwiches and talks fondly about his mother – and Marion resolves to return the money.

Part two is a whodunnit. Marion’s sister (Vera Miles) and her lover (John Gavin) investigate her disappearance, and trace her steps back to the motel. Soon, they begin to have suspicions about Norman.

THRILLER WITH A TWIST Audiences saw things in Psycho that had never been shown before on screen. A toilet flushing. A murderer who goes unpunished. A post-coital Leigh, lying on a bed, dressed only in white underwear, while Gavin

New Delhi: The SC pulled up automobile associations, including Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), noting that its order on relaxations for sale and registration of BS 4 vehicles has been flouted by dealers.

A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra and also comprising Justice S Abdul Nazeer and Justice Indira Banerjee was hearing a case related to the relaxation in the sale and registration of vehicles, compliant with BS 4 emission norms.

The bench said that its earlier order on relaxations for sale and registration of BS 4 vehicles has been apparently flouted by auto-

The apex court observed that it had allowed the sale and registration of 1.05 lakh BS 4 vehicles, but 2.55 lakh vehicles have been sold since then.The top court sought the details of the sale and registrations of vehicles by FADA by Friday. CISCE class 10, 12 pupils can opt out of pending exams Mumbai: The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) informed Bombay HC that it will not force students to appear for remaining examinations for Class 10 and 12 in July, 2020.

The Council said that students can either appear for pending exams as per the revised schedule or they could opt out of the remaining exams, in which case the final results will be based on performance in internal assessment or pre-board exams.

SC pulls up auto industry bodies for flouting orders

New Delhi: No reimposition of lockdown is being planned in Delhi, tweeted Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, quelling rumours of a possible shutdown amid a sharp rise in the coronavirus cases in the national capital.

The first nationwide lockdown was imposed on March 25 to stem the spread of the disease and since then it has been extended four times. Presently, the lockdown is only in containment zones till June 30.

“Many people are speculating whether another lockdown in Delhi in being planned.

There are no such plans,” said CM Kejriwal. Earlier in the day, Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting of all the parties of Delhi to discuss the coronavirus crisis in the city.

The government said that the Centre and the AAP dispensation have agreed on an immediate action plan to increase capacity of beds,

FIR against Digvijaya Singh over ‘edited’ video of MP CM Chouhan Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Police registered an FIR against Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh and 11 others on Monday in a case of circulation of an alleged “edited” video of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s old statement on the liquor policy of the previous Kamal Nath government.

Naidu writes to kin of 15 victims, announces `50,000 assistance Amaravati: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu has written letters to the kin of 15 victims, who lost their lives in the LG Polymers gas leak tragedy in Visakhapatnam, and assured them financial assistance of Rs 50,000 each.

In his letters, the TDP chief said that he had planned to personally meet the victims’ families to hand over Rs 50,000 financial assistance to each of them but the govern-

ment was not giving him permission to visit Visakhapatnam.

Gehlot’s ‘Trimurti’ needs to stay alert of disgruntled MLAs! From P1 Chief Ministerial assignment, Pilot became non-cooperative and rather defiant towards the Chief Minister from day one and therefore in such a ‘tense’ situation, there was virtually no opportunity for a soft-spoken Gehlot to have a proper understanding with Pilot.

Now, there is a perpetual frustration and disappointment on both the sides and therefore the ‘show will go on’ in its present form only.

Pilot has also complained to the Congress High Command that Gehlot camp has painted him as a ‘villain’ among Congress MLAs in the ongoing Rajya Sabha poll scenario and efforts have been made in a planned way to tarnish his image.

The fifth outcome is that the upcoming political appointments and Cabinet reshuffle

may provide a much awaited ‘opportunity’ to the dissidents to gather the support of all disappointed MLAs, who could not be accommodated in the Cabinet or in the Boards or Corporations. Pilot camp and other forces hope that this opportunity may bring at least 15-20 more disgruntled Congress MLAs closer to them, in addition to existing dozen Pilot camp MLAs, once the exercise of political appointments and Cabinet reshuffle is over by June end.

There is an element of urgency in completing this exercise because lot of ‘assurances’ have been made by Gehlot camp to a number of Congress, Independent and BSP MLAs and if, because of any reason, this reshuffle is further postponed, then it will be really difficult for Ashok Gehlot and Avinash Pande to control the

resentment.

The sixth outcome is that because of a number of reasons or pressures or political compulsions, a few hardcore Pilot camp MLAs have started ‘distancing’ themselves from Pilot.

The latest case is of a young hardcore Pilot camp MLA from Rajakhera (Dholpur) Rohit Bohra, who apparently under the pressure of his aging father and a former Gehlot Cabinet minister Pradhuman Singh, has virtually left Pilot camp and joined

Notice to Vedanta for alleged royalty theft Kashiram Choudhary Jaipur: The premier zinc mining and manufacturing company of India - Hindustan Zinc Limited aka Vedanta has allegedly indulged in royalty theft from state government. In past five years, the company mined cadmium along with zinc, and it is alleged that the information of this mining was not given to state government.

The mining department has been given a report in this regard

by State Directorate of Revenue Intelligence claiming misrepresentation in statistic and on the basis of report, mining department has issued a notice to the company of recovery of Rs 2,500 crore.

The SDRI has registered a preliminary investigation report against Vedanta and handed the report of alleged royalty theft

of Rs 2,500 crore to mining department.

Based on this report, a recovery notice has been issued to Vedanta, which is the biggest lead and zinc mining company in Rajasthan.

As per MMDR Act 1957, mining company has to inform Indian Bureau of Mining of Central government and mining and geology department of state government about minerals and by products mined in any state.

SDRI conducted a suomoto investigation wherein it was alleged that for past several years, company records do not show right quantity of by-products - silver and cadmium- which has allegedly caused a royalty loss of Rs 2,500 crore to

state. SDRI studied production details of Hindustan Zinc Limited from 2012-17 and then studied statistics of IBM and mining and geology department of state govt when data was, allegedly, not found to be corresponding, it was claimed that Vedanta has misrepresented quantity of silver. IBM was told more production while mining department was told of lesser and it is alleged that company hid information about mining 3.65 lakh kg of silver which has resulted in the alleged exchequer loss to government. Thus mining department has served a 30 day notice to company asking for right information about royalty, failing which the recovery will be done.

Later in 2017, Lewis mentioned that they had parted ways as their relationship got in the way for his love of cars.

Scherzinger, the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, wrote the English version of ‘Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)’, the song appeared on the rerelease of the group’s second studio album Doll Domination (2008).

Scherzinger was hesitant at first, stating in an interview that, “ I was scared to death to touch it, afraid for people to hear it before I even wrote it.”

Scherzinger put her “heart into writing the lyrics and put in themes from the film Slumdog Millionaire.

Love and destiny were elements from the movie that she put into the track”. She stated that she “prayed every night to do this right.”

Narsi Kularia said that there is a special satisfaction in the hospital project as it would serve humanity when it needs attention and care. Another point worth mentioning is that Narsi Group has been involved with the Skill India scheme for a good time now and has successfully trained thousands of young people by paving way for them to get employed.

Group Director, Jagdish Kularia also credited the success of the project to his team members who worked 24x7 and made the working site their home for the whole period. He said, it is hard work of such people, which makes the Narsi Group what it is today. Jagdish Kularia said he finds himself to be lucky to have led such a dedicated team.

aking cues from her own e x p e r i e n c e, actor Deepika Padukone on Sunday reiterated the need to talk, communicate and reach out to those who may be depressed or battling from mental illnesses.

The post comes within hours of the sudden demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his Bandra residence in Mumbai.

Deepika shared a written statement on Twitter, which read: “As a person who has had a lived experience with mental illness, I cannot stress enough about the importance of reaching out.”

She urged her legion of followers to “talk, communicate, express and seek help” during such an hour of need.

The ‘Padmaavat’ actor wrapped up the post by assuring nobody is alone in this

battle, and there is always a “hope.”

“Remember, you are not alone. We are in this together. And most importantly there is hope,” the statement read.

The 34-year-old actor has always been on the frontline when it comes to spreading awareness about the importance of mental health.

Padukone started voicing her opinion on the importance of mental health through her foundation ‘The Live Love Laugh Foundation’ (TLLLF) in June 2015. Through the platform, the actor keeps launching nationwide awareness as well as destigmatisation campaigns.

eyoncé penned a powerful open letter, demanding justice for Breonna Taylor, who was shot fatally by police in her own home.

The songstress wrote the letter to Kentucky Attorney General, Daniel Cameron, and called for criminal charges against three cops involved in Taylor’s shooting.

Beyoncé urged Cameron to “take swift and decisive action in charging the officers” involved in the shooting. On March 13, Taylor, who was studying to become a nurse, was shot eight times by cops.

It was reported that the cops were conducting a narcotics investigation; however, no drugs were found at her Louisville home. “Three months have passed and zero arrests have been made, and no officers have been fired,” the ‘Crazy In Love’ singer wrote in the letter. She further asked Cameron to take concrete action to prove that a black woman’s life matters. “Your office has both the power and the responsibility to bring justice to Breonna Taylor, and demonstrate the value of a Black woman’s life,” she wrote.
