Gehlot’s poaching apprehension now becomes a reality @ 25 cr Aditi Nagar/ Kartikey Dev Singh Jaipur: Calling out the opposition party’s attempts to sour the Rajya Sabha election for the Congress party, Chief Minister Ashok gehlot said on Wednesday late night that a whopping twenty five crore rupee per legislator was being offerred to the ruling party’s men. “Attempt is being made to lure our MLAs and cash transfer is offerred for this horse trading. One MLA has been given upto 25 crore rupees while an advance of ten crore is offered. However, our MLAs became alert well in time and did not fall prey to the lure. Horse-trading attempts are ongoing

at a massive level in state,” the Chief Minister said before leaving the Shiv Vilas Palace late in the night where a meeting of 115 Congress MLAs had been organized as the countdown for Rajya Sabha election began on Wednesday. A little over sixty days have passed when the Election Commissioner announced postponing the Rajya Sabha elections, but what happened in Jaipur on Wednesday brought fresh memories of two months back when there was a strong word in political circles that on the lines of Madhya Pradesh, even Rajasthan government would be brought to minority. In March, it was being claimed that BJP state chief Satish Poonia and deputy Leader

tion of their plans. In fact, it is claimed now, that they had also secured ‘tactical support’ of a powerful Congress camp to carry out ‘Operation pulldown Gehlot’! It is said that then, 22 MLAs from Congress party were ready for the strike in which the ‘young leader’ of the rival ‘camp’ also had to play a role, however, the smart and visionary leader denied clearly of him playing an active role, although he assured of tactical support, while also ruling out possibility of jumping into the BJP bandwagon in near future. Sources reveal that the leader did not want to come across as a villian and moreover,

did not have the required number of MLAs as well. Things had rolled out to such an effect that Poonia and Rathore had even formed their own cabinet. However, it is largely believed that a Narendra Modi-Amit Shah nominee Gajendra Singh Shekhawat continues to be the saffron party’s first choice in case there is an opportunity in the state. A highly placed source revealed that in March New Delhi meeting to finalise the ‘pulldown’ plan almost all senior BJP leaders connected with Rajasthan were present in the meeting. Notably, the union ministers Prakash Javadekar and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat were reportedly given the

responsibility to lure in the independent legislators. Interestingly, though Amit Shah plays his cards too close to his chest, but at that time Shekhawat was touted to be the contender for the post of the Chief Minister. On the other hand, this young leader’s role was of silent spectator who wanted to settle political score with CM Ashok Gehlot. For this purpose, the driving force was not power, neither was it becoming the Chief Minister, or cabinet berth at centre, but purely to get back at Gehlot or some sort of a political ‘revenge’ from his leader for his humiliation in handling the matters of state during the last one and a half year. NHRC ISSUES NOTICE TO DELHI GOVT OVER COVID-19 ‘MISMANAGEMENT’ New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the Delhi government & the union government on a complaint by senior Congress leader Ajay Maken alleging 70% of beds in Delhi hospitals are lying unused while coronavirus patients are being turned away. NHRC says that Ajay Maken has provided data along with his complaint to cite the ‘difficulties’ faced by Covid-19 patients in Delhi, which if true, highlights the ‘inappropriate’ behavior of the authorities. The national rights body has directed the central Delhi government officials to consult & file a comprehensive report within 10 days. over 90,000 cases. The state added 2,259 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours. On the brighter side, nearly 47% of COVID-19 patients in the state were recovered from the infection. Punjab registered one of the highest recovery rates in India. Nearly 80% of coronavirus patients were recov-

ered in the state. There was 497 active COVID-19 patients in Punjab while 2,167 were cured from the infection. Timely detection of coronavirus cases and stringent lockdown measures were the two reasons behind this high number of recovered patients, the health ministry stated earlier.

India imposed a nationwide lockdown in the last week of March to contain the coronavirus spread in the country. The number of COVID-19 cases in India has been doubling every three weeks but the epidemic is not growing exponentially in the country and South Asia region, the World Health Organization (WHO) said last week. Soumya Swaminathan, WHO’s chief scientist, noting India has a population of 1.3 billion, said that the 200,000 reported cases, “look big but for a country of this size it’s still modest”. Globally, total number of COVID-19 cases has surpassed 72 lakh while death toll has crossed 4 lakh. India has the fifth highest number of coronavirus cases after the US, Brazil, Russia, and the UK. —ANI
