New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday questioned the government over the criteria it adopted to judge how long the COVID-19-induced lockdown will continue. Addressing a meeting of chief ministers of states where the Congress is in power, she asked “what after May 17?” India has been under lockdown since March 25 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. New Delhi: The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 1,785 and the number of cases climbed to 52,559 in the country on Wednesday, registering an increase of 126 deaths and 2,958 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said. Meanwhile, to bring citizens with feature phones and landlines under the protection of Aarogya Setu, an ‘Aarogya Setu Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS)’ has been implemented, the Ministry said. This service is available across the country. New Delhi: Public transport, which has been shut since the first lockdown announcement on March 24, may soon be in operation, roadways minister Nitin Gadkari assured transporters on Wednesday. Opening of transport and highways will go a long way in instilling confidence among the public, said the minister, adding that public transport may open soon with some guidelines. He, however, cautioned towards maintaining social distance and adopting all safety measures like hand wash, sanitising, face masks, etc while operating buses and cars. RSS TO CONDUCT ‘SOCIO-ECONOMIC SURVEY’ OF MIGRANT LABOURERS

New Delhi: The RSS is conducting a “socio-economic survey” of migrant labourers to know their condition better and also find out whether they would like to remain in their villages or come back to cities for work once the COVID-19 situation normalises, its joint general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said on Wednesday. Interacting with foreign media via video conferencing, he said the Sangh is helping local administration in crowd management and providing food to migrant labourers. “We are also conducting a survey to know whether migrant labourers would like to stay in their villages or come back to cities for livelihood,” he said. When contacted, Hosabale told PTI that this is a “socio-economic” survey and the Sangh keeps on doing such surveys for a better understanding of the society.

New Delhi/ Jaipur: With only eleven more days left before lockdown 3.0 formally ends, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot apprised the Congress President Sonia Gandhi of the ‘state’ of state’s ‘health’ amid Corona times. Sonia held a video conference with senior Congress leaders including former PM Manmohan Singh, former party president Rahul Gandhi, P. Chidambaram, KC Venugopal

and Congress Chief Ministers on Wednesday. During the VC Gehlot presented the dismal situation the state was reeling under. “Unless the people and states do not get a financial package, how will the country progress. We have faced a loss of revenue worth ten thousand crore rupees and we are asked the Prime Minister repeatedly for a package, but we haven’t heard anything from the Central Government till now,”

Gehlot told the members. Interestingly, Gehlot’s concerns were shared equally by other Chief Ministers as well.
