Week 1 of evacuation to see 64 flights to 13 nations; over 14,000 stranded Indians to be repatriated New Delhi: India is set to begin its largest overseas evacuation of stranded Indian nationals abroad since Independence. The operation to bring back Indians stranded in various countries due to airspace closures because of the COVID-19 pandemic will commence in a phased manner, the first phase to begin as early as this week. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has prepared a chart for the evacuation of over 14,000 Indian nationals stranded in 13 foreign countries by 64 flights in week 1 of the operation. According to the MEA plan shared with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) that is set to begin from May 7, an approximate 14,800 passengers will be evacuated from 13 different countries. Flights from India will fly to the Philippines, Singapore, Bangladesh, UAE, UK, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Singapore, Phillippines, USA, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait. rive in Chennai, Kochi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Delhi from nine different countries, according to the plan. On Day 3, some 2050 stranded nationals are expected to arrive in Mumbai, Kochi, Lucknow and Delhi from 13 countries spread across the Middle East, Europe, South East Asia and USA. On Day 4 of the plan 1850 stranded nationals from eight different countries, including the USA, UK and the UAE will be evacuated. submit a copy each to the Health and Immigration Counter at arrival. This airlift would be the largest since the Persian Gulf War evacuation of over 170,000 people from Kuwait in 1990. The government on Tuesday suspended all existing visas granted to foreign nationals, barring a few categories, till international air travel to and from India remains shut due to the coronavirus pandemic, an order said. Job loss rate logs 27%
Mumbai: The COVID-19 crisis has led to a spike in the country’s unemployment rate to 27.11 per cent for the week ended May 3, up from the under 7 per cent level before the start of the pandemic in mid-March, the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) has said. The Mumbai-based think tank said the rate of unemployment was the highest in the urban areas, which constitute the most number of the red zones due to the COVID-19 cases, at 29.22 per cent, as against 26.69 per cent for the rural areas. Naresh Sharma Jaipur: Day after Congress President Sonia Gandhi announced travel fare for stranded labourers following which Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also made the same announcement for labourers stranded in Rajasthan, and a day before Gehlot’s
video conference with Sonia and other leaders regarding the issue, the chief minister has requested migrants to be patient as the government handles the issues facing stranded labourers. Gehlot has also asked officials to follow the Centre’s guidelines for interstate traffic.

“About 17 lakh people have registered online for traffic so far. Apart from the stranded laborers, other people living in other states should be patient to come to Rajasthan and stay at the present place for the time being,” the Chief Minister said
