‘PLASMA THERAPY Indigenous testing kits by May: Govt IN TRIAL STAGE’ No evidence yet to support it can be used for treatment, say experts New Delhi: The Health Ministry on Tuesday said currently plasma therapy is at experimental stage and there is no evidence yet to support that it can be used as treatment for COVID-19. Addressing a press briefing, Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said currently there are no approved therapies for COVID-19 and there is not enough evidence to claim that plasma therapy can be used for treatment of the disease. “ICMR has launched a national-level study to study efficacy of plasma therapy in treatment of COVID 19,” he

said. “Till ICMR concludes its study and a robust scientific proof is available, plasma therapy should be used only for research or trial purpose. If plasma therapy is not used in proper manner under proper guidelines, Turn on P6

ADB APPROVES $1.5 BILLION FINANCING TO INDIA Manila: Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday approved a 1.5 billion dollar loan to India to help fund its response to coronavirus pandemic. This includes support for immediate priorities like disease containment and prevention as well as social protection for the poor and economically vulnerable sections of the society, especially women and disadvantaged groups.

RECOVERY RATE IN INDIA IMPROVES TO 23.3 PC New Delhi: A total of 6,869 people have been cured of coronavirus in India so far, taking the recovery rate to 23.3 per cent, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday. A total of 1,543 new cases of coronavirus have been identified, which take the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 30,631, said Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry.

`68K cr loans of wilful defaulters written off: RBI New Delhi: Outstanding loans amounting to Rs 68,607 crore of top 50 wilful bank loan defaulters in the country including firms of Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya have been technically written off till September 30, 2019, the Reserve Bank of India said in a RTI reply. Absconding dimantaire Choksi’s company Gitanjali Gems tops the list of these defaulters with a whopping amount of Rs 5,492 crore, according to the list. This is followed by REI Agro with Rs 4,314 crore and Winsome Diamonds with Rs 4,076 crore. Rotomac Global Private Limited has funded advances of Rs 2,850 crore which have been technically written off and Kudos Chemie Ltd with Rs 2,326 crore, Ruchi Soya Industries Limited, now owned by Ramdev’s Patanjali, with Rs 2,212 crore and Zoom Developers Pvt Ltd with Rs 2,012 crore being the other companies. HOME ISOLATION OPTION FOR PATIENTS WITH MILD SYMPTOMS New Delhi: Union Ministry of Health has issued guidelines for home isolation of people who either have very mild COVID-19 symptoms or are in the pre-symptomatic phase. Such patients with requisite self-isolation facility at their residence will now have the option for home isolation. Ministry asked people to download Aarogya Setu app on mobile & it should remain active at all times.

FOUR CHILDREN DROWN IN BOTAD Four children from a tribal family drowned after jumping into the Sukh Bhadar reservoir on Tuesday. The family, originally from Panchmahal district, had come to the Nana Chheda village of Botad district in search of work. The fire and emergency services team rushed to the spot but could not save anyone. All four bodies have been recovered.

As per new guidelines issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), asymptomatic positive patients may selfisolate at home from Wednesday, as long as they are in a separate room within the house.
