Indo-China rancour: Trump offers ‘help’ Aditi Nagar

ALERT

New Delhi: Flaring up of tensions between India and China even at a time when both countries are grappling with containing the spread of Covid-19, could turn to be the penultimate challenge for PM Narendra Modi. India has already had couple of face offs with China when it conquered Tibet and then at nathu-La which India managed to retain. With the PLA and Indian Army staring each other in the face in the Ladakh highlands, the relations have only run into the rough. The latest aggression by China comes at a time when the country is facing criticism globally for

spread and lack of transparency of information related to Covid-19. Minister for Petroleum and Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said that there was nothing to worry under the leadership of PM Modi. “There is nothing to panic and worry,” he said. Meanwhile, in a surprise move, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday offered to “mediate or arbitrate” the raging border dispute between India and China, saying he was “ready, willing and able” to ease tensions, amid continuing standoff between the militaries of the two neighbours. India’s new leadership role as Chair of Executive Board of WHO may have also peeved China and forced it to show assertiveness. More on P6

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Wednesday asked the Centre to identify private hospitals where COVID-19 infected patients could get treatment for free or at a nominal cost. A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde, hearing the matter via video-conferencing, observed that there are private hospitals which have been given land either free of cost or at nominal rates and they should treat coronavirus infected patients for free. “You identify all those hospital and find out,” the bench, also comprising Justices A S Bopanna and Hrishikesh Roy, told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. “They have been given land either free of cost or at a very nomi-

He said students will not be required to travel

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention on Wednesday in the alleged “whimsical” functioning of the railways in sending Shramik Special trains to West Bengal daily and urged the BJPled central government not to pursue politics when the state is battling the dual crisis of the

COVID-19 pandemic and the trail of destruction left behind by Cyclone Amphan. The state’s infrastructure is “stretched to its limit” following the devastation caused by Cyclone Amphan, she said, adding that West Bengal can receive very few trains carrying migrant workers on a daily basis as of now. the lockdown when schools were closed, will be able to appear for the exams at their present places of stay. They

will not be required to travel back. The CBSE will issue a notification in this regard and for the modalities of registration of such requests,” Pokhriyal said. The exams, which were postponed due to the nationwide lockdown imposed on March 25 to contain the spread of COVID-19, will now be held from July 1 to 15. “It has come to notice

that due to closure of schools because of lockdown, some students are not present at the station from where they were appearing in the examinations prior to their postponement and it would be difficult for them to appear in the scheduled examinations from their existing examination centres,” CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi said.

A video tweeted by Sanjay Yadav, an aide to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, shows the child toddling up to his mother’s body, tugging at the blanket placed over her. The video went viral on social media, evoking strong reactions from people, many of whom questioned if the government will take responsibility of these deaths. P8
