PM has assured of every possible help to the two states which faced the havoc caused by the cyclone. CM also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh for the family members of each of the deceased. Kolkata and several other parts of West Bengal wore a battered look after the extremely severe cyclone ‘Amphan’ left a trail of devastation in the state, blowing away shanties, uprooting thousands of trees besides swamping low-lying areas. HLL Lifecare denies Guj govt claim that it ordered Dhaman-1  Puducherry cancels ventilator order on the same day health dept extols its virtues Haresh Jhala & Marilyn Gore Gandhinagar: Was the state just caught in a barefaced lie? A day after the Gujarat government claimed that national public-sector company HLL Lifecare Ltd was purchasing “5,000 units” of Dhaman-1 ventilators, the firm has refuted this

claim. This comes less than a day after the Puducherry government evening cancelled its order for 25 Dhaman-1 from Rajkot-based Jyoti CNC. On Wednesday, the top brass of the state health department had addressed the media to extol the virtues of the Rajkot-made ventilator after reports of its

inadequacy emerged from the Civil hospital in Ahmedabad, which received several units from Jyoti CNC in April. The controversy surrounding Dhaman-1 began with an

internal health department communique exposing the weaknesses of the machine and demanding high-end ventilators. Interestingly, the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad has not

installed compressors despite Jyoti CNC director Parakramsinh Jadeja clearly stating that Dhaman-1 is compressor-based and not volume-based. On Wednesday, Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanti Ravi had gone to the extent of stating that HLL Lifecare, which is known for setting and following strict quality standards, was buying 5,000 units. This was meant to be an endorsement of the quality of the Dhaman-1. Turn on P6
