Corona enters Parl as Houses assemble New Delhi: Seventeen members of the Lok Sabha and eight from the Rajya Sabha have tested positive for coronavirus in the mandatory tests carried out before the monsoon session of parliament started on Monday morning, sources said. Junior railways minister Suresh Angadi, the BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi, Anant Kumar Hegde, Parvesh Sahib Singh, Rita Bahuguna Joshi and Kaushal Kishore were among the 17 Lok Saha MPs who have contracted the viral disease. No data on migrants’ deaths in lockdown The Centre informed Parliament that no data was available on the deaths of migrant workers caused due to sudden nationwide lockdown due to corona pandemic. Responding to a question on whether thousands of migrant labourers lost their lives during this period, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, through a written reply, said “no such data is available”.

Our laws, values don’t recognise same-sex marriage: Centre to HC New Delhi: Marriage between same-sex couples is “not recognised by our laws, legal system, society and our values,” the government’s top lawyer told the Delhi High Court today, opposing a petition to legalise gay marriages. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta made the submission as the High Court heard a petition on legalising same-sex marriages

under the Hindu Marriage Act (HMA) and Special Marriage Act. Mehta said: “Our laws, our legal system, our society and our val-

ues do not recognise marriage, which is a sacrament, between same-sex couples”. He said the petition asking for gay marriages to be legalized was “not permissible” for two reasons. “Firstly, the petition is asking the court to legislate and secondly, any relief granted will run contrary to various statutory provisions. nificance or not. The ongoing project under which a bus station was being constructed on a Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) basis at Geeta Mandir is being helmed by a firm called Hubtown. On the northern end of the bus depot, where excavation was conducted to build the foundation for the project, the tunnel-like structure was discovered. It is not yet clear which period the structure belongs to or how

old it is but, an investigation has been initiated. Meanwhile, all construction work has been suspended at the site for the time being. It is also not yet clear if the company has permission for digging at the current site or not. According to AMC officials, the structure is nothing but a water tank. “I checked the excavated structure this morning. To me, it seems like an underground water

tank. However, a survey will be conducted,” said PVK Nair, Director of the Heritage Department at the civic body. In 2016, a controversy had erupted with an ongoing construction near the bus depot after a private contractor demolished a historic gate.
