Air India plans to operate special domestic flights from different cities between May 19 and June 2 to help stranded passengers reach home. The flights, will connect Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Jaipur etc. However, this is not the beginning of domestic operations as yet. These are as part of Air India’s evacuation operations that have been going on where domestic passengers can also be included. This will facilitate passengers who have been brought from abroad to reach their home states as many of them are at the destination airports.

FILLIP TO SMALL BIZ Borrowers with up to Rs25 cr outstanding & Rs100 cr turnover eligible for this package; TDS, TCS rates cut puts cash in hand but your tax liability remains same New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday announced Rs3 lakh crore of collateral-free loans for small businesses, cut the tax rate for non-salary payments and provided liquidity to non-banking companies to help them tide over the disruptions caused by the lockdown. Announcing the first set of components of the Rs20 lakh crore COVID-19 economic stimulus package announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she said Rs 90,000 crore liquidity infusion will be made in electricity distribution companies to help them fight the current financial stress. Also, dates for filing income tax returns and other assessments have been extended. She said the rate of tax deducted at source (TDS) and tax collected at source (TCS) for non-salaried payments up to March 31, 2021, will be cut by 25 per cent. Kabul: Afghan officials on Wednesday raised the death from the militant attack on a maternity hospital in Kabul the previous day, saying that 24 people were killed, including two newborn babies, their mothers and an unspecified number of nurses. This will be effective from June 1. This move comes as PM Narendra Modi advocated local manufacturers and retailers during his address to the nation on Tuesday. At present, the Army recruits young people under short service commission for an initial tenure of 10 years. “The Army is considering a proposal to allow civilians to join the force for a period of three years,” an Army spokesperson said. In the past 24 hours, 2,760 samples have been tested. In the past 24 hours, the state has seen a total of 364 positive cases and 29 fatalities. In all, of the 9,268 total cases, 566 people in Gujarat have died due to COVID-19 and related complications. However, the daily number of

people being discharged is on the rise, with 316 patients discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours. Till date, 3562 patients were discharged from the state. Four positive cases were reported in Ahmedabad’s rural areas on Wednesday, one each from Sanand, Viramgam, Dhandhuka and Dholka. So far, 122 positive cases have been reported from rural Ahmedabad. Violators of home quarantine in Surat will now be fined Rs25,000, Surat Municipal Com-

missioner Banchhanidhi Pani announced, as a means of curbing the spread of the virus. Meanwhile, Jayanti Ravi, Principal Secretary (Health), said the state’s discharge rate is now 38.43%. She added that the health department has been able to increase the immunity of patients with the help of ayurvedic medicines. She also said that the medicines for WHO’s Solidarity Clinical Trial, in which the state is participating, have arrived from the US.
