Take states into confidence: RaGa to NaMo New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday exhorted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to devolve power and make the states partners in efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, contending that “if we keep this fight in PMO, we will lose”. Gandhi said there will be a “calamity” if the

fight against the novel coronavirus is centralised in the prime minister’s office (PMO). Addressing a press conference through video conference, he also asked the government to adopt transparency in its actions to tackle the coronavirus and work together with states and take them into confidence. His remarks came after complaints by Congress-ruled states that they were being pushed into fiscal distress in the absence of the Centre providing them resources to fight the pandemic. SC bats for online sales, home delivery of liquor

Ahmedabad: At least 10 persons were detained for rioting after an episode of stone-pelting near Rangila Chowki under the jurisdiction of the Shahpur Police station late Friday evening. The police resorted to tear-gas shelling to quell the mob after three cops were injured in the fracas. Local residents say the mob gathered after a Rapid Action Force (RAF) Jawan used a lathi on a woman who was standing outside her home. The police, on the other hand, insist that no force was used. Both sides agree that what started as a verbal argument soon attracted the participation of other local residents, and snowballed into a mob. The mob first pelted

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Friday asked states to consider non-direct contact or online sales and home delivery of liquor during the lockdown period to prevent the spread of coronavirus on account of crowding at the shops. Senior police officers reached with more teams and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the mob. At the time of writing, the situation is tense, but under control.
