Khedawala demands privilege motion against ACS Gupta The Jamalpur MLA wrote a letter to the Gujarat Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi, making the request First India Bureau Ahmedabad: In a letter to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi, Jamalpur MLA Imran Khedawala has asked that he pass a privilege motion against Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Rajiv Gupta. The people’s representative requested
the speaker to take action against the officer on special duty under assembly rule 249. The reason for Khedawala’s move can be attributed to a series of events that happened last month. that, Khedawala said, “This is the move of an officer who is sup-
posed to share information with people’s representatives and
the public whenever called upon.” “He (ACS Gupta) has
denied all claims of the media regarding ‘data management’, terming them false or fake news. I was not given information when I used an open platform like Twitter but got blocked. There is no transparency or accountability among officers, and Gupta is one of them,” asserted the Jamalpur MLA. In his letter to the speaker, Khedawala also highlighted the hardships being faced by citizens to receive treatment for COVID-19. “Hospitals have waiting lists and patients are unable to get admitted for med-
ical care. People are not even being granted a dignified final journey on their death,” he stated. “The appointed officer on special duty never receives calls from people or responds to messages. When I tried to draw his attention to the issues being faced by the people using another platform, he blocked that communication medium. I do not need to get any personal work done, but as a people’s representative, I have a special responsibility to take care of the people,” mentioned the letter.
