Gehlot’s

DALIT+JAT Experiment Aditi Nagar ow often does it happen that those belonging to the OBCs and SC/ST communities, truly get to the upper most echelons of executive positions in the government? It took Rajasthan over seven decades to find the correct social engineering set-up as thought of in the Constitution, all thanks to the individual who is referred to as ‘Marwar’s Gandhi’ - Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Appointing an NREGA category Dalit IAS Niranjan Arya as the Chief Secretary and a Jat (OBC) Mohan Lal Lather as the Director General of Police, has been made possible by the commitment of ‘sensitive’ CM to uplift the communities. While people may claim that it is the politics that uplifts the downtrodden and backward classes, however, in reality, it is the continuous support extended to these communities through executive promotions, that makes the actual difference, and Gehlot knows this well. It is for this reason that when the opportune time came, he appointed a Dalit and an OBC at the two most important positions on Rajasthan bureaucracy, thereby reiterating his earlier claim, “Main Thansu Door Koni”! (I am not far from you) Now Arya and Lather have to prove that they were the right ‘choices’ for the job.
