New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has moved the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the proceedings in multiple cases lodged against him in various states over his alleged remarks on the efficacy of allopathy in the treatment of Covid-19, Bar and Bench reported. New Delhi: The Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) Wednesday sold shares of United Breweries Ltd — owned by businessman Vijay Mallya and attached by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) — for Rs 5,824.50 crore, said the agency in a statement. Lucknow: Better days lie ahead for sugarcane industry and farmers with 11 prominent business houses pumping in Rs 1250 crore for setting up 16 new distilleries in the state thanks to investor-friendly policies of UP government.

While production has also already started in one of the distilleries set up by Dalmia Group, remaining 15 distilleries are expected to start functioning by year end. It is to be noted that the government not only reopened closed sugar mills but also provided incentives because of which 11 existing private sector sugar mills have enhanced their crushing capacity.

UP is the largest producer of sugarcane in the countryand accounts for 51% of total land on which sugarcane is cultivated, as well as 50% of sugarcane and 38% of sugar production in the country. Out of total 520 sugar mills in India, 119 are in UP. According to officials, DCM Shriram Limited has set up a distillery in Hardoi, which has already started production.

Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said the militants were falsely labelling innocent persons as informers to hide their sin. A police spokesman said the militants fired upon Umer Nazir Bhat, a resident of Kelashpora Habakadal, inside his shop at Main Chowk Habba Kadal. UP solar power units to get power banking facility to avoid wastage First India Bureau Lucknow: In order to boost solar power in the state the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to provide life-long power-banking facilities to the solar plants so that they could become viable.

The move will save solar power generating firms from financial losses they suffer on account of wastage of excess solar power.

Under the “powerbanking” facility the solar plants would be able to deposit excess power in the grid and withdraw it when they require to sell it to the consumers. The Yogi government’s decision would go a long way in protecting the interest

of solar power sector which had been facing losses because of wastage of excess power.

The Yogi government has set a target of producing 10,700 MW renewable energy by 2022. The government sources said that “we are confident of meeting the target. We aim to generate 4300 MW through rooftop solar

installations. At present solar power plants are running successfully”. In view of the potential of solar power, the government has asked the UP electricity regulatory commission (UPERC) to make changes in the regulations to provide power banking facilities. The government has taken this move in view of

immense investment potential in the state.

The government has also invited investors to invest in this sector.

To boost the use and generation of green energy, the government had launched UP solar energy policy 2017, which has yielded positive results. Uttar Pradesh will be third state after Tamil Nadu and Chattisgarh to have the provision of power banking facility for solar power. The additional chief secretary energy Alok Sinha has written to the UPERC to take necessary measures about power banking facility. The government has taken this decision under solar policy 2017.

encourage participation of private sector and provide investment opportunities to set up solar power projects in the state. It also aims to support in providing environment friendly and affordable power for all. Another objective of the policy is to promote research and development, innovations and skill development in the state and achieve the target of 8 per cent solar renewable purchase obligation (Solar RPO) by 2022. To attract investments in the state, an investor summit was organised in February 2018. During a session in the summit, 46 MoUs worth over Rs 65,000 crore were signed for renewable energy.

HC rejects petitions challenging UP conversion ordinance UP CONVERSION ORDINANCE

First India Bureau Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has rejected all petitions challenging the UP Conversion Ordinance.

The High Court has dismissed petitions on the ground that the ordinance has become law.

There is no justification for challenging the Ordinance once the Ordinance becomes a law.

However, the court has asked the state government to respond to the conversion law.

In fact, the conversion ordinance was challenged in four separate petitions in the high court. Now that the law has been enact-

ed, a bench of Justices M N Bhandari and Ajay Tyagi has turned down the petitions.

It has also sought response from the government on petitions filed on the conversion law. The next hearing in the case will be on August 2. It may be recalled that in February this year the Conversion Bill was passed in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

According to this law, if you forcibly convert or have someone converted, this Bill provides for a punishment of up to 10 years. You will also have to pay a fine of Rs. 50,000 for this crime.

High Court, Allahabad). A Division Bench comprising Justices Manoj Misra and Anil Kumar Ojha said that it is well settled that the master of the roster is the Chief Justice. It is his prerogative as to before which judge or judges the matter is to be listed.

Lucknow: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has submitted a report to the state government on the oxygen wastage in hospitals across Uttar Pradesh during the month of May. The report claims that of the 52 hospitals from various districts, 10 were found to be wasting oxygen or using more than the required amount per patient.

According to the team, the list of hospitals was provided by the government with most of them being state-run hospitals.

“Yeh kya ghoda chatur ghoda chatur, ek pe reh na, ya ghoda bolna ya chatur bolna!”... was in splits when I watched this song for the first time, the array of expressions in this one song from Mehmood to Kishore da and Sunil Dutt to Saira were unmatchable, ably supported by Kishore’s crew of Mukri, Raj Kishore and Keshto Mukherjee. There cannot be a better introduction to Padosan than the song ‘Ek Chatur naar’, it is a summary of the slapstick comedy the movie is.

One request, Padosan is not a movie to be watched with the present-day sensibilities, the characters are overboard and stereotypical. Everything is on exaggeration mode in the movie and that’s that!

Mehmood were equal in all aspects of the film. In fact, in remembrance, I think the latter two made more of an impact than the lovebirds!

Kishore Da with his dhoti and paan chewing and locks on the face was a lovable character who takes it upon himself to win over the lady love for his friend, the ultra simpleton Sunil Dutt who with his ’katori’ haircut, kurta and ‘blissful’ smile and confidence played one of his cutest roles though one does want to shake some sense into him now and then.

With Mehmood as Masterji at the other end with Kishore, they both gave one of their best performances as master entertainers!

There is no storyline as such but simple love lore but the songs and the fantastic performances make Padosan a classic!

aam, a fictional saga of love and rebellion in the world’s most ancient city, Banaras, showcases the significance of preserving heritage and culture.

Vishwanath Tiwari, hailing from the city of Banaras has written and directed the short film, Taam. The title of the film originates from the Sanskrit language, meaning, destruction due to the development that is exemplified in the movie. City First had an exclusive interview with Vishwanath, an independent filmmaker who through his film has depicted the wrath of destruction in t h e name of development.

Q. Tell us about the movie, Taam.

A. Taam, is a documentary drama about the pain and sacredness involved in the land acquisition of Pakka-Mahal in Varanasi (Pakka-Mahal is a flock of the oldest houses surrounding the old Vishwanath temple).

It’s the story of Pandit Uma, 75, who fights in the quest to conquer against the government who wants to acquire his ancestral r e n t e d house. The story unfolds as

government faces strong opposition by veterans like writer Kashi Nath Singh, Avimuktheshwaranand with the support of the huge Varanasi population. Change in the course can not lead to development whereas it can lead to the destruction of the previous one”.

A. Being an independent filmmaker wasn’t a choice but to become a filmmaker was always a dream.

Through films like The Holy Fish where I worked as an assistant director and Dhatoora, where I worked as a creative director respectively, were some of the incredible experiences and made me yearn more to direct my feature film in the form of Taam.

Taam, produced under the banner of Avimukt Films, is written and directed by Vishwanath Tiwari and Gaurav Singh with Vidyanath Bharti as DOP. The film is all set to release on several OTT platforms.
