The civil court in Varanasi, which was hearing the case, removed one of three commissioners it had appointed - Ajay Mishra. Mishra’s assistant had reportedly leaked info about the survey to the media. The two others - Vishal Singh and Ajay Pratap - will continue as Court Commissioner and Deputy Court Commissioner respectively. The Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi, next to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, is embroiled in a long-drawn legal battle. More on P7

TOP COURT ASKS VARANASI DM FOR PROTECTION OF THE AREA New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday clarified that the Varanasi court order shall confine to the protection of the ‘shivling’ reportedly found but there won’t be any restrictions on the entry of Muslims and offering namaz in the Gyanvapi mosque. SC COLLEGIUM RECOMMENDS JUSTICE SS SHINDE AS CJ OF RAJ HC Jaipur: SC collegium has recommended the name of Justice SS Shinde as new CJ of Rajasthan HC. Justice Shinde is presently serving as a Judge of Bombay HC. Born on August 2, 1960, Justice Shinde completed his LLB course from Marathwada University at Aurangabad, Maharashtra and obtained LLM degrees from Pune University and from Warwick University in UK.

New Delhi: SC bench issued notices to Hindu petitioners & UP govt on plea of Anjuman Intezamia Masajid Committee which challenged Varanasi court order which directed videographic survey of Gyanvapi Mosque complex, adjacent to Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Adv Huzefa Ahmadi told bench, “If premises are sealed, there is alteration of status quo. Sec 3 of Places of Worship Act makes it clear that it can’t be done”.

Advocate commissioner Ajay Mishra, who was removed from his post in panel tasked to conduct a survey inside Gyanvapi mosque complex, said he will respect local court’s order, while blaming special advocate commissioner Vishal Singh for outcome. “I have not done anything that reveals secrecy of matter. I was removed because of allegations of advocate Vishal, whatever has happened is only because of (him),” Mishra said.

6G in India by 2030

GOVT EASES RESTRICTIONS ON WHEAT EXPORT New Delhi: Centre has relaxed its wheat export ban order of May 13 to allow export consignments that were registered in Customs Dept’s systems and handed over to for examination on or prior to May 13, Commerce and Industry Ministry said on May 17. The govt also allowed a wheat consignment headed for Egypt, which was already under loading at the Kandla port, following a request by Egyptian Govt to permit it.

Moni Sharma New Delhi: The CBI has registered a case on Tuesday evening against 5 accused including Karti Chidambaram and people based in Chennai, Mumbai, pvt firms based in Mumbai, Mansa (Punjab), etc and unidentified public servants and private people. As per CBI, case has been registered on allegations including bribery to facilitate issuance of a visa to Chinese company beyond ceiling. “It has been said firm based at Mansa was in process of establishing a power plant & establishing of plant was outsourced to a Chinese Company & in order to avoid penal actions for delay, said firm was trying to bring Chinese professionals & needed Project VISAs,” agency said.
