In May, 2021, Colonial Pipelines was successfully targeted by the non-state Russian hacking group DarkSide, out for monetary gain through ransomware. Microsoft at the same time, reported that the Russian state-backed attacker behind Solar Winds had launched a new attack on government agencies and think tanks.

It has been rumored strongly that Chinese have intruded on the electricity supply of some of the major Indian cities during the Galwan battle.

The question remains open, however, as to what the response should be, not only to possible cybercrime but also to cybersecurity more generally. We need to recognize that cyber espionage can equally be as important as equal preparation for the battlefield.

I believe there is only one way to prepare – and it has to accept that hackers will keep trying to attack. The cybersecurity equivalent could be building and programming computer systems that can withstand faults, failures and hacking while still performing essential functions and protecting data security. The ultimate objective would be not to prevent systems from being breached, but to limit the damage and speed the recovery when they are broken into.

New Delhi: Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE-Main) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) has come under scanner after seven persons of a private consultancy firm were arrested by the CBI for charging up to Rs 15 lakh per candidate to facilitate admissions in top engineering colleges.

Ayodhya vs Faizabad: Owaisi raises storm before arrival First India Bureau Lucknow: A row has erupted in Ayodhya over “Welcome to Faizabad” banners put up by leaders of AIMIM on the proposed visit of party chief Asaduddin Owaisi on September 7.

Instead of welcoming Owaisi to the twin city’s changed name of Ayodhya the local leaders have put up banners in the city hailing him to Faizabad.

Owaisi is scheduled to address a ‘Shoshit Vanchit Samaj Sammelan’ at Rudauli, 40 km from Ayodhya. The AIMIM banners have thus enraged the saints of the temple town who have threatened to block Owaisi’s entry into the city.

The Hanumangarhi Mahant Raju Das assailing the AIMIM leaders said that the party had been trying to polarise the people and disrupt communal harmony.

He said MIM leaders should have mentioned Ayodhya in the banners, which is now the official name, instead of Faizabad, which does not exist now. The Mahant said it was an insult to the people of the city.

However, the MIM leaders said it was an small issue which is being blown out of proportion.

SEERS TAKE OBJECTION TO ‘ANTI-HINDUTVA’ MOVE First India Bureau Ayodhya: Ahead of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi’s visit here, seers have raised objections to Ayodhya’s former name, Faizabad, being used in the party’s posters put up in the district and termed it an “antiHindutva” move.

They have warned that if Ayodhya is not mentioned in the posters, then Owaisi’s public meeting in the district will not be allowed.

ndia is a land of contradictions. On the one hand, we worship cows, and on the other, we subject them to a life of prolonged suffering in unregulated dairy farms. On the one hand, we have a defined Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and on the other enforcement and awareness about these laws is close to nil. On the one hand, ban the slaughter of cows and on the other hand, we are the 4th largest exporter of beef.

On the one hand, we regard ourselves as largely an agricultural land, and on the other, we grow animals for food!

I sometimes wonder if we are simply ignorant or are we all great actors, capable of winning the Filmfare for playing dumb simply because it suits us to ignore the “suffering” of another living being.

I did some sniffing around on animal protection laws around the world. Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Brazil, France, Brazil not only have such laws but they are enforced and the government recognizes animals as sentient beings. We must understand why it is important that a country have laws to protect its animals. The truth is just because you do not see cruelty, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Enjoying your paneer tikka for instance makes you an accomplice to the crime against animals. Yes, crime happens behind closed doors. Ethical treatment of animals does not bring in profits. Exploiting them does. And that exactly is what is wrong with our country.

If Amul, Gokul, Mother Dairy, and other large dairy companies factored in the care of “unproductive” cattle, milk would never be as affordable as it is now. It is simply easier for them to dump these animals on the streets, or in the care of Goushalas and Animal Welfare Organizations. But why? Dairy is an industry and “unproductive” cattle for them are the debris. Imagine if industries started to dump their waste onto the streets. The Pollution Board would be up in arms against them. Then what makes it ok for Dairy farms to “dump” these living beings who have given up their lives serving humans on to the streets? Why should gaushalas or AWOs bear the cost of care of the animals? They are not the ones who made them dry!

Those who “exploited” them should pay the price of upkeep in the animal’s last remaining years. And you know what that means- this cost will be transferred rightfully to the consumer of dairy!

I rather pay more for a plantbased and ethically sourced product than continue to have blood and someone’s suffering on my hands.

SO WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU WITNESS CRUELTY? 





If you fail, call the police immediately. Most State Police have Animal protection listed as their duty in their respective Police Acts. They are the only authority that has the right to “Search” under powers prescribed to them in the PCA Act 1960 Section 32. If the police do not respond, contact an advocate in your city. In Rajasthan, you may contact me for guidance and assistance if the police are not being cooperative.

Breeding is an unnatural trade where animals are impregnated against their will to produce babies that you buy. If this happened in the human species- it would be called rape! Promising thing is that there are laws against breeders who exploit the animals. Just that local governments in each district and state need to do more to create awareness about animal welfare. Breeders have to be registered with local authorities and the State Animal Welfare Board and follow the rules listed under The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rules of 2017.

I hate the term “street dog”.

That is not a species. The moment you designate them as belonging to the street, you shut off many hearts who could be potential adopters.

Raise their status by referring to them as “community animals”. Many people are mentally allergic to Indian breed of dogs. They might even go as far as to poison or get the local body to relocate them. Truth is, it is illegal to do both. The former is a cognizable offense and can get you arrested under Section 429 of the IPC and Section 11(1) (a),(c), and (l) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and the other will go against the order of the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001. The local authority cannot pick up dogs unless it is for Animal Birth Control and must release the dogs in the same area that they are picked up from. Sorry to disappoint those of you who are thinking of calling your Municipal Corporation. They cannot legally relocate dogs!

It is best if you simply learn to coexist. When you relocate dogs, you create a vacuum for more dogs to come in. At least the dogs currently in your neighbourhood are already familiar to you. Therefore I hope that you will agree that the removal of community dogs does not either reduce their population or control rabies or even reduce man-dog conflict.

by Indian Law. More on laws in my next pieces. I recommend you google “PCA Act, 1960” and give it a read. It needs an overhaul, but until then, this is all the animal beings have on their side, and of course, you if you recognize that they too feel the same emotions you do!
