PRIYANKA ON ‘HUNGER STRIKE’ AFTER DETENTION

Sitapur: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra sat on a hunger strike on Monday after being detained in Uttar Pradesh’’s Sitapur district while she was en route to Lakhimpur Kheri. As Vadra began her dharna in a PAC guest house in the district, Congress leaders protested outside and raised slogans against the BJP-led state government over her “arrest”. A video showed Priyanka Gandhi sweeping a room in the guest house.

LAKHIMPUR KHERI

New Delhi: In signs of truce between the Uttar Pradesh government and farmers over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence that left eight people, including four farmers, dead on Sunday, the state police announced an ex gratia of Rs 45 lakh for the kin of each of the deceased, a Govt job and Rs 10 lakh each for the injured.

Appearing in a joint press conference with BKU’s Rakesh Tikait on Monday, UP Additional DG, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, announced that the state government after talks with farmer representatives had decided to agree to their demands.

“FIRs under relevant sections will be lodged as demanded by the farmers. The incident will be probed by a retired high court judge and perpetrators caught within eight days,” said Kumar. The state government may just have averted a major crisis in the area.

The entire incident will be thoroughly probed and stringent action will be taken against those found guilty, he said.

“Now, the post-mortem examination of the bodies will be conducted after the ‘panchnama’ as per the due legal process ahead of their last rites,” he said.

Additional Chief Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi said, “The incident was unfortunate and a thorough probe will be conducted.”

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farm unions, has written to President Ram Nath Kovind, demanding that MoS, Home, Ajay Mishra be sacked and a murder case filed against his son with regards to the incident.

Sunday’s violence was the bloodiest yet in the prolonged farmers’ protest against the Centre’s new agri laws that began last year.

Angry farmers also set on fire two SUVs during the clash near Banbirpur on Sunday.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday announced that a retired High Court judge will probe the Lakhimpur Kheri violence and that the families of the four farmers killed in the incident will be given Rs 45 lakh compensation by the government.

The Uttar Pradesh government will also give Rs 10 lakh to those injured in the violence, said Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Awanish Kumar Awasthi.

“An agreement has been reached with the farmers. The government will give Rs 45 lakh to the family members of the four farmers who were killed in the violence on Sunday.

Besides, one member from their families will be given a government job at the local level,” he said.

Additional Director General (Law and Order) of Uttar Pradesh Police Prashant Kumar, who is in Lakhimpur Kheri, announced the state government’s decision regarding the probe and compensation in the presence of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait.

Lucknow: “After the incident in Lakhimpur, the district magistrate has imposed prohibitory orders there to maintain law and order. It is requested that you should not allow Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Punjab deputy Chief Minister at the CCS Airport in Lucknow,” Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Awanish Kumar Awasthi said in a letter dated October 3 to the Airport Authority of India, after the unfortunate incident took place in Lakhimpur Kheri district.

Jammu: RSS leader Indresh Kumar on Monday condemned the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh that left eight people dead and appealed to people to maintain peace.

Talking to reporters here, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader said, “A probe should be conducted (into Lakhimpur Kheri violence) and culprits punished.

We appeal to the people of the country not to take any agitation towards violent end as dialogue holds the key so that the development continues and we have a safe and strong country.”

Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of 75 urban projects worth Rs 4,737 cr during his Tuesday visit to Lucknow for inauguration of the three-day Urban Conclave on New Urban India: Transforming Urban Landscape.

The number of projects – 75 – has been chosen in sync with the current ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ being celebrated by the government on the 75th year of Independence.

“On the occasion, 75 best housing techniques and technologies would also be showcased,” Urban Development Minister Ashutosh Tandon ‘Gopal’ said.

Urban development ministers from across the country are expected at event, wherein the best practices in urban development would be showcased.

HC QUASHES KERALA GOVT’S ORDER TO REDUCE RT-PCR RATES IN PVT LABS

Kochi: Kerala HC on Monday quashed Kerala govt’s order to reduce charges of RT-PCR tests in private laboratories to Rs 500 from Rs 1,700.

HC also quashed the order to initiate criminal proceedings against those who are not implementing the order.

In May, the Kerala govt had issued an order to reduce the RT-PCR test rates in the state from Rs 1700 to Rs 500. A bench of Justice TR Ravi also directed the state to hold discussions with owners of private laboratories and take a fresh decision in this regard. Court’s ruling came on PIL filed by Accredited Molecular Testing Laboratories and Devi Scans pvt ltd seeking to set aside the order.

STILL UNDER NEGOTIATION’ New Delhi: Negotiation over the pricing of Covid vaccine ZyCov-D between Centre and Zydus Cadila are still underway. The decision of pricing is taking time owing to 2 factors; one is that it is a three-dose vaccine and the other is its application. A needle-free applicator or a jet injector is used for the application of the ZyCov-D vaccine, which can be used to vaccinate 10,000 people. Sources told that price from the govt is expected to be around Rs 300/dose. Sources said, “The final cost has not been finalised yet because cost of applicator that will be used for vaccine is Rs 90 and jet injector costs Rs 30,000.”

20,799 CASES; ACTIVE DROPS TO 2,64,458 New Delhi: India reported 20,799 new cases, 180 deaths in a day, said MoHFW. India’s active caseload stands at 2,64,458 which is lowest in the last 200 days. The active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.78%, lowest since March 2020. Recovery rate stands at 97.89%, highest since March 2020. Death toll has mounted to 4,48,997.

DON’T SEE 3RD WAVE COMING: BMC TELLS HC Mumbai: The BMC told Bombay HC on Monday that it does not apprehend a 3rd wave of pandemic in the city as the vaccination drive is going on smoothly, with over 42 lakh people fully vaccinated. Downdetector.com, a website that tracks issues related to traffic on major websites, also saw a spike in number of reports which confirmed that a large number of people are unable to access WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.

Over 20,000 people have reported that the WhatsApp is not working for them. The web. whatsapp.com is also displaying this error message - 5xx Server Error. Insta is also showing the same message.

The Facebook website shows an error mes-

sage “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.” The WhatsApp messaging app is unable to send or receive messages while Instagram and Facebook’s messaging platforms are also facing an outage.

The issue has seemingly affected people late in the evening, with outage starting at roughly 9:15 pm IST. This is not the first time apps like WhatsApp have crashed. A similar outage occurred in June, while another in July. “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience,” a Facebook spokesperson said.

KHERI New Delhi: The incident of violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri is resonating politically in Punjab, whose farmers have been protesting at national capital Delhi’s borders against three farm laws.

Lakhimpur Kheri is under Section 144 of the CrPC, which prohibits gathering of two or more people. The local administration and Uttar Pradesh Police have stopped a number of leaders from visiting the area where farmers were holding a protest.

They claim that a convoy of Union minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish ran over four farmers which caused their deaths.

Speaking during a roadshow in Ludhiana, Badal further said that a case under Section 302 of the IPC must be registered with immediate effects against the culprits and a high-level probe should be carried out for free and fair investigation.

in their late 70s who lost their young and brilliant son during the Indo-Pak war. They forgot to smile after that. As brave parents, they never wept publicly but a deep sorrow is noticeable whenever they enter my consultation room and evident is their abhorrence to war and violence as both these human follies conclude nothing. War, according to them, might be necessary though always a debatable choice but one thing is beyond doubt - its futility as far as a conclusive solution of the problem is concerned.

Similar examples can be seen aplenty in marriage breakdowns, business failures, cheating by friends and foes, leakages of examination papers, apathy and bribe seeking by government officials and so many more fields of life. The human emotional world has become a grand

he used to be a chirpy young woman whenever she visited my clinic with brilliant eyes and a radiant smile, full of life carrying an aura of dance, music, meditation and fitness. Then came Covid19 and caught her along with her husband. Both came out victorious against the dangerous virus but she lost something in her core. Now she looks vulnerable and emotionally fragile with eyes hardly holding back tears and a visible tremor in her voice.

Then there is another example. A woman of very happy disposition lost her brother-inlaw, a close lady friend and husband of another close friend to Covid19 in a very short period.

She always used to plan big for life and her attitude was also positive but when's this time she came to my consultation room, I failed to recognise her. She aged by years in these 12 months and her eyes dribbled tears at frequent intervals. She was extremely - and insecure for her husband and children and was suffering from nightmares regarding them. Never did she imagined this sort of life and everything happened as though lightning has struck.

All these three examples highlight one thing - gross public ignorance amounting to apathy as far as emotional health is concerned. The commonest comment " don't worry, everything would be fine" is indicative of superficiality of thought process and casualty of attitude. As the country is undergoing rapid urbanisation, India needs a strong emotional support system in place because the traditional social support system has, by now, become more or less extinct.

Post Traumatic stress syndrome mainly came to the fore after the 9/11 attack on American civilians by a moron group of some cruel people. Before that, it was not a regular diagnosis by medical professionals but after the Covid19 pandemic, it is now being recognised with all seriousness. In a pandemic like

chology is a difficult art to practice as the vast majority of the population is unaware of its usefulness, doesn't want to pay for it. Thus, only very few opting this as a career. Except for very few, almost all psychologists are dependent upon referral from psychiatrists which limits their capacity to innovate and improve and this is seen by the public as a money-making plan. In itself, this system of referral would never allow psychologists and counsellors to gain individual recognition and identity. It appears that India's emotionally disturbed people won't be able to reach a state of cloud 9 with the help of their counsellors.

Finally, a few words for the art of counselling. These days I have seen psychologists being trained to evaluate their clients by a type of protocol. They give a sheet of questions to a client, evaluate the answers and draw their inference. This is just like a high school examination and is almost mechanical, monotonous and repetitive. A counsellor has to have a philosophical depth of understanding human emotions, a lot of compassion and plentiful patience to listen, contemplate and comfort. These are the reasons we don't find many dedicated psychological counsellors, their place is almost completely taken over by Gurus who may or may not be capable of individual healing.

Counselling is not a profession in itself, it has to be a mission for someone capable of being a friend, philosopher and guide.

To talk about the latest in fashion, City First got in touch with Aditi Jaggi Rastogi, a fashion designer, costume designer for Balaji Telefilms, and a showcasing designer at Dubai Fashion Week, India fashion week and Lakme Fashion Week.

Q: What do you think is the fashion forecast according to the recently concluded fashion weeks?

A: What we saw in Milan this

time is natural tones and comfortable easy fashion with outfits that are high on styling.

Everything from breezy silhouettes to luxury fabrics, refined tailoring, and all things elegant with lots of effort on sleeves.

Q: What colours, silhouettes and patterns are in this season?

A: The forecast highlights a lot

tangerines while some hues of pastel naturals totally rolled. And the use of black in a comfy lounge feel which makes it day ready too like Versace’s slim silhouettes, sharp tailoring, and sultry riffs on power dressing.

Q: Do you think the loungewear is out and party couture is in as seen on various runways like Milan and Shanghai fashion weeks?
