SENSEX GALLOPS 776 PTS, NIFTY ENDS ABOVE 17,400
The Sensex ended with a gain of 776 points at 58,461 on Thursday. The BSE index had gained 620 points in trades on Wednesday. The NSE Nifty surged to a high of 17,420, and eventually settled 235 points higher at 17,402. The broader indices also finished with decent gains. The BSE Midcap index was up 1.1 per cent, and the Smallcap index advanced 1.2 per cent.

A Cabinet note circulated by the government on the proposed cryptocurrency bill has suggested regulation of private cryptocurrency rather than banning it. The note also says that crypto will not be recognised as legal currency in India. Further, the legislation describes Cryptocurrency as Cryptoasset, according to the note. The proposed virtual currency by RBI has not been clubbed with the new crypto bill.

New Delhi: Two COVID-19 cases of the Omicron variant have been detected in Karnataka in men aged 46 and 66 the Health Ministry said on Thursday, calling for calm amid growing concern over a strain that has triggered global alarm. Worryingly, three primary and two secondary contacts tested positive between November 22 and 25. All five have been isolated but it is not known, so far, if they have the Omicron strain. Overall 13 primary and 205 secondary contacts were tested. International airports across India began intensive screening and testing of all arrivals. Passengers from nations outside the ‘at risk’ list are being tested on a random sampling basis.

66-YEAR-OLD FIRST OMICRON PATIENT LEFT INDIA FOR UAE ON NOVEMBER 27 Bengaluru: A 66-year-old man who has become one of India’s first two cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant arrived in the country on November 20 and left for Dubai on a flight seven days later, official records showed on Thursday. He had arrived from South Africa with a negative COVID-19 test report. The second patient is a health worker from Bengaluru who developed symptoms (fever and body ache) on November 21. He tested positive the following day and was admitted to hospital and sample was sent for genome sequencing.

Addressing a media, Joint Secretary of the Union Health Ministry, Lav Agarwal said that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has been studying the emerging evidence of Omicron. “All Omicron related cases are found to have mild symptoms so far...In all such cases in the country and across the world so far, no severe symptom has been noted. WHO has said that its emerging evidence is being studied,” the Joint Secretary said.

Mumbai: Former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh has been suspended with immediate effect, the Maharashtra government said in order issued on Thursday. AAI’S FACIAL RECOGNITION-BASED PASSENGER BOARDING SYSTEM PLANS
New Delhi: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) was working on the country’s first facial recognition technology-based biometric boarding system for passengers at Varanasi, Pune, Kolkata and Vijayawada airports, Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh said on Thursday. “This biometric boarding system is part of the first phase of Digi Yatra scheme’s implementation,” he said in a written response to a question in Lok Sabha. It is a biometrics-based digital processing system for passenger entry and related requirements at the airport, according to the government.
