33 bank accounts & `68 lakh attached in PMLA case New Delhi: In a big development, the ED on Wednesday froze bank accounts of the Popular Front of India (PFI) in an ongoing PMLA investigation. The ED has provisionally attached 23 bank accounts of PFI having a collective balance of `59 lakh and 10 bank accounts of PFI’s front organization Rehab India Foundation (RIF) with a balance of `9.50 lakh. Total amount of `68,62,081 has thus been provisionally attached under Section 5 of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

Aiming to treat all wastewater before it flows into Yamuna: CM New Delhi (PTI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday inspected the country’s largest sewage treatment plant (STP) at Coronation Pillar here and said his government’s aim is to treat all the wastewater before it is discharged into the Yamuna.

The fully automatic STP can treat 70 million gallons of wastewater a day and is currently undergoing a trial run.

“We have promised to the people of Delhi that we will clean the Yamuna before 2025. Working in that direction, we will treat all the wastewater before it flows into the river,” he said.

The work on Coronation Pillar STP was sanctioned in December 2018.

The story is about the immense support and guidance that she received from Modiji for the big contest. The incident as it happened: Modiji had once received Rs 11 from his mother in blessing, which he in turn, a few years down the line, handed over to Sudha Yadav as a blessing to initiate her election campaign and asked the karyakartas to contrib-

ute whatever they had on them at that moment to fund her campaign. Within half an hour, there were Rs 7.5 lakh on the blanket donated as a campaign fund for Sudha and of course, Sudha Yadav won that election.

There were 18 Kargil war widows in the area I resided in and it was Modiji’s vision to field someone from the family of martyrs for that election. I was a teacher by profession and was clueless about the ways of politics.

All of a sudden I started receiving calls from BJP members encouraging me to contest elections but I continued to refuse as neither my family nor I ever imagined myself cut out for such a role.

Also, I had no political background. It was then that Chaudhary Ishwar Singhji, who was then the State President of Kisan Morcha, said to me “I will give you a number. Speak to the person. You will find your way.” It happened to be Narendrabhai’s number. Let me reiterate, I was so politically naive, I did not even know what it meant to be Rashtriye Sanghathan Mahamantri of BJP. Nevertheless, I called up the landline number. Narendra bhai used to reside at Harishchandra Mathur Lane at that time. He answered the call himself and I introduced myself. I said that the mem-

bers of the BJP are persuading me to contest the upcoming elections and since I am befuddled I have been given your number. What he said to me completely changed my perspective. He said “Sudhaji a great change has come in your life with the martyrdom of your husband. Now you must come out to serve society. Just say yes and the party will help you fight the elections.” Although I wasn’t completely convinced whether really politics was my cup of tea, I called up Narendra bhai the next day and confirmed to him my intention to contest the elections. But again I shared my misgivings with him and said, “Nar-

endra bhai, a few party workers have told me that a lot of money is required to run an election campaign whereas I belong to the service class.

What I have received as exgratia payment, I wish to save for my children. My daughter is 7 while my son is only three and a half. So this money I cannot spend.” Narendra bhai replied “Sudhaji just say yes. Sangathan will help you fight the elections.

These are all myths about elections that you must not harbour. Have faith in Narendra bhai and say yes to serving the society.”

This was the first telephonic conversation I had with Narendra bhai and I was yet

to meet him in person. My first meeting with some of the senior leaders of the Sangh Parivar happened a couple of days later at Harishchandra Mathur Lane which was the residence of an MP. It had two rooms at the back and an open area in the front.

I was awe-stricken to find Modiji, such a well-known political figure, sitting on a mattress on the floor, with books strewn all over the place and a telephone next to him. One had only to take off one’s slippers at the entrance and sit on the floor to hold a discussion with him. Even in my wildest dreams, I could not have imagined Narendra bhai to be someone so simple and rooted

to the ground. This was my initiation into the humble world of Samaj Sevaks, people who work wholeheartedly for society and the country.

The process of debunking myths about contesting elections had started for me.

I was told that I would be fighting against a candidate belonging to the royal family and had ruled over the area from 1952 to 1998. So it was natural that winning the election was going to be no walk in the park for me, neither would my candidature be accepted easily. Seniors advised me to spread a word among my family, friends and relatives that I would be fighting the elections and seek their support. They also advised me to meet Atalji, Advaniji, Kushabhau Thakre and Sushmaji.

The first karyakarta meeting was to be held at Agarwal Dharamshala, Gurgaon. We were fighting as a coalition so a joint meeting with Indian National Lokdal and BJP karyakartas was organized.

The hall was chock-full of workers of the two parties.

Modiji was present for the meeting along with the most renowned names of the BJP. What transpired that day touched me to the core and I grew emotionally attached with Modiji for his brotherly protection, guidance and support. In his speech, Modiji said, “One vote has made all the difference and it is this- it is the vote of Congress’s Rao Indrajeet. Now Sudha Yadav will fight for this seat. She is a Veerangana and does not have anything. We have to help her fight and win.”

Modiji spread out a sheet on the floor and placed a steel Kalash in the centre. He then charged the hall with these words “I am a pracharak and the Sangh takes care of me and my expenses. Several years ago when I visited my mother, she blessed me with Rs 11 and told me that this money will come in handy someday. I feel it was for this day that my mother gave me that money. I offer Rs 11 for my sister Sudha Yadav’s fight in this election and I request all the karyakartas to sacrifice in this yajna everything they have on them right now, except for the fare to go back home.” I was mesmerized, in a state of transcendence, as this entire experience was so new to me. Within half an hour, at Modiji’s behest, an amount of Rs 7.5 lakh had been collected as funds for my election campaign.

This is how my political journey began. After this Modiji organised a sabha in my Lok Sabha constituency.

It was a magnificent sabha in Rewari and Atalji was to attend it as well. Modiji rode on a scooter the entire day to gauge the pulse of the people and the response to our campaign. My car was stuck in jam as people were gushing in for the sabha and the hovering of Atalji’s helicopter could be heard signaling his arrival. Modiji got me a lift on a scooter too that took me through the narrow lanes so that I could make it to the sabha in time. After the event was over, Atalji had a brief interaction with me before leaving. He congratulated me for inching closer to a win. At last, when I met Modiji at the party office later in the day, he said “Look, you are winning this election. Keep your calm and continue to campaign for a couple of days more.

You will make it.” And indeed, I won that election!

New Delhi (PTI): GST revenues bucked the two-month rising trend in May and stood at nearly `1.41 lakh crore, registering a year-onyear increase of 44%.

Although the May Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenues came in lower than the record high collection in April at `1.68 lakh crore and `1.42 lakh crore in March, it is still the fourth highest collection since the rollout of the new indirect tax regime on July 1, 2017.

In February, revenues from taxing sale of goods and services was at `1.33 lakh crore, while in January it was `1,40,986 crore.

“The gross GST revenue collected in the month of May 2022 is `1,40,885 crore of which CGST is `25,036 crore, SGST is `32,001 crore, IGST is `73,345 crore (including `37,469 crore collected on import of goods) and cess is `10,502 crore (including `931 crore collected on import of goods),” the Finance Ministry said in a statement.

The revenues for the month of May 2022 are 44% higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year at `97,821 crore.

This is the fourth time that the monthly GST collection has crossed the `1.40 lakh crore mark since the

PNB ups MCLR by 0.15 per cent; EMIs to go up

New Delhi (PTI): State-owned Punjab National Bank (PNB) on Wednesday raised its marginal cost of fundsbased lending rate by 15 basis points or 0.15% across all tenures, a move that will lead to an increase in EMIs for borrowers.

The new rates are effective from June 1, PNB said in a regulatory filing.

The revision follows an off-cycle rate increase by the Reserve Bank in May. With the revision, one-year MCLR has increased to 7.40%

from 7.25% earlier.

Most of the loans are linked to the one-year MCLR rate. The overnight, one-month and three-month MCLR rose by 15 basis points to 6.75%, 6.80% and 6.90%, respectively, whereas the six-month MCLR increased to 7.10%.

At the same time, three-year MCLR increased by 0.15% to 7.70%. With the increase, EMIs will go up for those borrowers who have availed loans on MCLR (Marginal Cost of Funds based Lending Rate).

HDFC HIKES HOME LOAN RATES

New Delhi (PTI): Mortgage lender HDFC Ltd on Wednesday announced an increase in its benchmark lending rate by 5 basis points (bps), a move that will make loans dearer for both existing and new borrowers. This is the third hike effected by HDFC in the last one month. “HDFC increases its Retail Prime Lending Rate (RPLR) on housing loans, on which its Adjustable Rate Home Loans (ARHL) are benchmarked, by 5 basis points, with effect from June 1, 2022,” the housing finance company said in a statement. vised rates for new borrowers range between 7.05% and 7.50%, depending on credit score and loan amount. May 2022 GST collections are robust compared to the Q4 FY2022 trends, benefitting from improved compliance, market share gains by the organised sector as well as the transmission of higher commodity prices into output prices,” Nayar said.

Given the trends for April-May 2022, and the anticipation of a sustained healthy momentum of activity in absence of another wave of COVID and major disruptions, we expect the CGST inflows in FY 2023 to exceed the Budget Estimates level by `1.15 trillion, helping to absorb a part of the higher subsidy bill.

New Delhi (PTI): State-owned CIL on Wednesday said it produced 108.2 million tonne of coal in the first two months of the ongoing fiscal year, registering year-on-year increase of 28.8%.

The company had produced 84 MT of coal in April-May last fiscal year, CIL said. The company’s output in May increased to 54.7 MT from 42.1 MT in the corresponding month of previous fiscal year, the filing said.

“Accelerating its production, CIL posted a strong 30% output growth in May’22. The increase in volume terms was 12.6 MT,” the PSU said in another filing.

New Delhi (PTI): India’s manufacturing sector growth steadied in May, with new orders and production increasing at similar rates to those registered in the previous month, while demand showed signs of resilience and improved further in spite of another uptick in selling prices, a monthly survey said on Wednesday.

The seasonally adjusted S&P Global India Manufacturing PMI stood at 54.6 in May, little changed from 54.7 in April, pointing to a sustained recovery across the sector.

The May PMI data pointed to an improvement in overall operating conditions for the eleventh straight month.

The May PMI data also highlighted a notable uptick in growth of new export orders. The

New Delhi (PTI): Jet fuel prices on Wednesday were cut by 1.3% -the first reduction after 10 rounds of price hikes -- on softening international crude oil rates.

Simultaneously, prices of commercial LPG used by business establishments such as hotels and restaurants were reduced by `135 per 19-kg cylinder.

The price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) has been reduced by Rs 1,563.97 per kilolitre, or 1.27%, to `1,21,475.74 per kl (`121 per litre) in Delhi.

This is the first reduction after 10 rounds of price increases this year. Rates were hiked by `6,188.25 per kl, or 5.29%, on May 16, to a record high level of `1,23,039.71 per kl.

Commercial LPG rates were reduced to `2,219 per 19-kg cylinder, from `2,354.

The May PMI data pointed to an improvement in overall operating conditions for the eleventh straight month rate of expansion was sharp and the fastest since April 2011.

Tata Motors sales surge 3 folds in May Reliance signs JV New Delhi (PTI): Tata Motors on Wednesday said its total sales jumped nearly three folds in May to 76,210 units compared to 26,661 units in COVIDhit May 2021.

The company’s domestic sales increased three folds to 74,755 units from 24,552 units in May 2021, Tata Motors said.

MARUTI SUZUKI TOTAL SALES AT 1.61 LAKH UNITS New Delhi (PTI): The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Wednesday said its total wholesales in May stood at 1,61,413 units. The company had sold 46,555 units in May 2021, MSI said in a statement. Last month, the company’s domestic sales rose to 1,34,222 units, as against 35,293 units in May 2021, it added. “The sales figures of May 2022 are not comparable with that of May 2021 as the operations of the company in May 2021 were significantly affected due to COVID-19 related disruptions,” the automaker stated. Sales of mini cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, stood at 17,408 units last month. It stood at 4,760 in the same month last year.

Similarly, domestic commercial vehicle sales surged to 31,414 units last month against 9,371 units in

the same period last year. This is the company’s highest ever monthly sales since inception – PV and EV

domestic combined led by robust dispatch of Nexon, Harrier and Safari. The automajor also reported the high-

New Delhi (Agencies): Delhi Police was able to trace two minor girls in Jammu and Kashmir, nearly a month after they went missing from the national capital, an official said on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast district) Esha Pandey said information was received at Amar Colony police station regarding the disappearance of two minor girls aged 16 and 17 years.

The condition of Khan is “perfectly stable”, hospital sources had said on Tuesday.

Khan was released from Sitapur Jail in Uttar Pradesh on May 20, a day after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in a cheating case.

Azam Khan was the Lok Sabha MP from the Rampur seat but quit after he became an MLA. His support to any Samajwadi Party candidate on the seat is crucial. Elections are due this month.

Centre has sanctioned `704 lakh this fiscal for setting up a MVUs for livestock & migratory sheep for eradication of veterinary diseases

Shimla (Agencies): In a first, the Himachal Pradesh government this month is launching a five-year veterinary “hospital on wheels” to provide on-site treatment to injured and sick livestock, Animal Husbandry Minister Virender Kanwar said on Wednesday.

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 704 lakh in this fiscal for setting up a Mobile Veterinary Unit

(MVUs) for livestock and migratory sheep for eradication of veterinary diseases.

The MVUs will have a hydraulic lift to shift animals to the government hospital in case of emergency, said the minister.The Animal Husbandry Department is establishing a 24x7 veterinary telemedicine facility with a toll-free number 1962 similar to 108 ambulance services.

The ambulance service will be run on public private partnership mode under which the government will hire a private agency to operate and provide the services.

A total of 44 mobile ambulances clinics will be placed at block levels in the initial phase.

One veterinary doctor and one para-veterinary worker will be assigned to every ambulance. The ambulance will be sta-

tioned at strategic locations to minimize travelling time.

This is the first statewide facility for animals, equipped and customised for their treatment of injured and sick animals. As per, 2019 census, the state supports 437,8757 livestock that experience loss in milk production, decreased wool production, loss of drought power and delayed ma-

turity due to livestock diseases because of large-scale inter-state migration.

As per the government, around 4 lakh livestock is likely to be benefited with the ambulance service each year.

This facility can be a game-changer as tough geographical and topographical conditions in the state makes it difficult to provide timely treatment.

New Delhi (ANI): A few students suffered minor injuries in a “brawl” between two groups on the Ramjas College campus here on Tuesday, Delhi police said.

The Delhi Police has initiated legal action as per the law in the said matter. Complaints have been received from both the groups, alleging excesses by the other group, a senior police officer said. Delhi Police, in its FIR copy, mentioned, “A brawl took place between two groups of students of Ramjas College, on Tuesday. Reportedly, one group having affiliation with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), edited a caste-based slogan that was initially painted by ABVP supporters over a wall and changed it to another caste-based slogan.”

Passengers arriving at IGI Airport in Delhi will soon be getting RFID-enabled baggage tags to track their baggage.

In a statement, DIAL mentioned that the Delhi Airport is the first Indian airport to intro-

duce the facility. IGI airport has introduced Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID)-enabled personalized baggage tag “BAGG

TRAX”, a first-of-itskind facility in the country that will share details in real-time about when and on which belt a passen-

ger’s luggage is arriving. The unique BAGG TRAX tags will soon be commercially launched for flyers at Delhi airport.

Presently, as part of the pilot project, BAGG TRAX tags are given to select frequent flyers at Terminal 3 only. Once c o m m e r c i a l l y launched, flyers can buy it at the Departures, it read.

It is yet another passenger-friendly initiative by DIAL.

Due to this, the highly gusty winds led to high dust emissions having origin in Delhi and surrounding Haryana areas, resulting in the ‘very poor’ category of AQI,” Gufran Beigh, founder project director of SAFAR said.

erfumes are a blend of fragrant oils, aroma compounds and fixatives which produce a pleasant fragrance. Egyptians gave perfume to the world as it originated from their culture. They used fragrances in almost all their rituals and daily use. These scents were popularly used as status symbols.

Then Persians considered it a sign of political status and soon it reached Greeks and Romans including various other corners of the world.

HOW PERFUME IS MADE? Initially, natural oils and extracts were used to create multiple scented ointments.

Currently, the process has become far more complex and involves chemicals for different aromas. The plant and flower extracts are combined with either ethanol or ethanol and water as per the required concentration.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS COLLECTION

The ingredients such as plant and animal substances are brought to the manufacturing unit. Then aromatic chemicals used in synthetic perfumes are created in the laboratory by perfume chemists.

EXTRACTION

Scent oils are extracted from plant substances by several methods such as steam distillation, solvent extraction, enfleurage, maceration and expression.

BLENDING

The process of blending takes place after the collection of these perfume oils. The formed scent is then mixed with alcohol. It contains 10% to 20% perfume oils dissolved in alcohol and a trace of water. It may take as many as 800 different ingredients to develop the special formula for a perfume.

Then finally a good perfume is aged for several months or even years after blending.

Then the expert often referred to as a nose will test the perfume to ensure that the correct scent has been achieved.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF PERFUMES Perfumes come in a wide variety of fragrances. Here are some of the basic categories of scents.

FLORAL

Floral fragrances draw inspiration from different sweet-smelling flowers such as roses, jasmine, orange blossoms and gardenias, etc. They have either a single or a blend of scents from different flowers.

CITRUS

As the name goes citrus perfumes contain the strong essence of citrus flowers and fruits. They are mostly derived from lime, lemon, tangerine and mandarin.

WOODY

This type of fragrance is a blend of wood and moss. It is commonly referred to as chypre fragrances. It uses oakmoss, citrus and patchouli to create ear thy a ro m a s of soothing perf u m e .

There is a classical appeal associated with it because such scents are used by corporate workers.

ORIENTAL

Oriental perfumes are made by mixing earthy and musky scents.

Amber, musk and animalistic base scents are the ingredients of these perfumes.

FRUITY

This is one of the most popular categories of fragrances.

Fruity smells are pleasing and famous due to their sweetness given by the mixture of spicy and fruity notes. These aromas include fragrances such as apple, berry, mango and peach, etc.

GREEN

ollywood has more than its share of films with lead actors in double roles with Ram aur Shyam, Seeta aur Geeta and Chaalbaaz, being my personal favourites. Sharmilee was not in this league as an entertainer but it had its moments with it’s moral ambiguity and in-depth characterisation of the lead actors not to mention the music.

The title track O’meri Sharmilee is super cute and buoyant. Khiltey hain gul yahaan and Megha chaye aandhi raat are both totally hummable even today. Aaj madhosh hua jaaye rey … it’s all about love and togetherness.

Rakhee is actually breathtakingly beautiful in both personnas as the wild and outgoing Kanchan and the demure and traditional Kamini, though I personally in looks preferred the traditional sweet Rakhee. She does modernise herself for her beau Shashi but her core remains traditional.

I liked the negative Rakhee as Kamini much better with her spontaneity, naughtiness, perkiness, selfishness and flirtatious ways much more than Kanchan who is ‘demure as dumb’, painfully shy. And unlike the usual Bollywood twin dramas,

Shashi Kapoor will steal your heart as a dashing, handsome, charming Army officer (in uniform most of the time) who falls for one sister to be married off to her twin though I do wish he had been kinder to the innocent Kamini; he is brutal in heartbreak and actually we see a nervous breakdown. But the characters are all too human, be it Shatrughan, Rakhee as Kanchan or Shashi.

The movie has a moral lesson of traditional versus modern Kanchan the party girl falls in the wrong company and how her life deteriorates.

The strength of Kamini who with her moral compass and compassion finds happiness.

The movie does have some unnecessary twists and underworld drama but then what is Bollywood without these?

he book, “A Moment in Time with the Legends of Indian Arts” by Dr Alka Raghuvanshi the programme was presented by her sister Manisha Gawade at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre on Tuesday. The book was published by Sanjay Arya.

The launch was done by ICCR Director-General Kumar Tuhin, Sunit Tandon- Director of the Habitat Centre and senior members of the art fraternity including Padma Bhushan and Padma Shree Guru Raja Radha Reddy, Padma Vibhushan Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Padma Shree Guru Shovana Narayan, Artist and Curator Manisha Gawade, Publisher Sanjay Arya, National Awardee Ranbir Kaleka, Bollywood actor Rajesh Tailang, Celebrated Orissi Guru Sharon Lowen, Padma Shree Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar, Radhika Chopra, Suhasini Shah and Kumud Sharma.

dreams and follow whatever field they chose. “We never gave them any benchmark but guided them to excel and ensured a valuebased home environment by example. Jagdish was in a transferable job and the boys had to change schools often but that actually added to their self-confidence and adaptability,” Sudha added.

She remembers that initially they had wanted Amit to become a doctor but when he said he would rather follow in his father’s footsteps,

they supported him totally. When asked by City First, that what is her guidance for the parents of today, Sudha said that it is simple actually. They should listen to their children, allow them to follow their passions, success will follow.

She added that they are proud that both their sons, though with identical heritage, upbringing and family background and values, have chosen two opposite paths which converge in the same goal- development of the nation.

Gauri Khan launched her first concept store called The Design Cell located in Worli, Mumbai in early 2014.

The Module with Gauri Khan on The Designer’s Class will enable the students to understand the practical application of design theories to create aesthetical and functional spaces while putting their ideas and inspiration into realistic design.

Delhi is where I was born and raised. I am a girl who enjoys trying new things since you never know how different life is in another area unless you experience it for yourself. I'm a simple girl with a complicated life!

How did your journey begin?

I created an Instagram account with some followers with a great passion for fashion. This amazing media has given me the confidence to pursue her dream of modelling and I am still learning how to be better.

What were some of the battles you fought and are still fighting in your journey?

Every person is unique, so instead of getting caught up in the rat race and lamenting what we don't have, let us rejoice in what we do have. Starting this page was very difficult for me but it didn't stop me from pursuing my goals, and I battled and worked hard to achieve them.
