We were asked to meet Modiji in Lok Sabha and after a little wait we were ushered in to meet him in his room. What struck me as extraordinary was that there was not a single piece of paper on his table and his demeanour showed as if he had been wait ing for us. The point is that be ing the PM and that too in the middle of the parliamentary session, he could have been deeply engrossed in his work at that time as well. But the fact that he chose to remain com pletely free for us showed his concern for us and the ability to give importance to even ordi nary people. Not just this, PM Modi gave us the greatest and the most credible certificate of our hard work when he gave a pat on his back and said “What a wonderful event it was! Your hard work is truly commenda ble. I am sure you must have got a backache working for such long hours at a stretch! This work was not easy at all but you all made it look so simple by yourModijidedication.”isaperfectionist par excellence and his generous appreciation of our work meant the world to us. Where our imagination ends, his be gins. Therefore we had been exceedingly careful about cu rating the entire program with perfection and we had indeed put in a lot of effort in the de signing of the event. Then he said that we must continue our hard work for the upcoming events in the next 5 years. The first book we published was titled “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” and he said that the forth coming compilation will be titled Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sabka Vishwas. There was another pro ject for which I had to make a 45-minute online presentation to him and was told that Modiji would connect from his office in Lok Sabha. As I began speaking, I somehow got deeply engrossed in the content so much so that I ended up taking a long time. When I apologized to Modiji, he immediately asked me to con tinue and said that he was listen ing. Well, he was not just listen ing. He had gone deep into the intricacies of the presentation and each and every detail was clearly etched in his mind. The points that he raised after the discussion were simply the re flection of a genius mind. Only someone with immeasurable fo cus, patience and grasp over things could come up with such ingenious ideas and suggestions post presentation. And that too when the project was simply at a conceptual stage. He then gave the go ahead for the project! Then, on 13th August I got a call saying that a very impor tant guest would be coming to meet me on the 15th. I began to panic how and when I would make preparations for this very special person, who was none other than Modiji. And do you know what was the first sen tence he spoke when he stepped out of his car on 15th August? He said “Apologies Sachidan andji for making you wait for me this long!”

It is amazing how PM Modi cares to remember such minute details about people and their problems and this, to me, was an eye-opener about the greatness of Modiji as a leader. And not just this, he is genuinely wor ried about people. It is not a superficial concern that he shows randomly, in fact far from that. He is deeply aware of even the personal problems that people are facing and there is such sincerity and conviction in his voice that one feels really cared for in his presence.Thearrangement in that meeting was such that I had the honour of being seated just next to him. It gave me the oppor tunity to converse with him and it was an out-ofthe-world experience for all of us to be able to dis cuss the finer details with him, to listen to all the speakers and then gain an in sight into the subject by listening in to what PM Modi had to say about it. We could see for ourselves that PM Modi is an extremely keen observer and all his observations are well-articulated profundities about the subject at hand. He de voted an hour and a half of his precious time in that event at the end of which he delivered an electrifying speech which com pletely charged the audience. After a few days I got a call from the Publication Depart ment saying that they wanted to publish PM Modi’s speech and that they were sending in a pan el of experts for a meeting with him. I happened to be part of the panel and then in a few days, Director General Dr Rao called me up to say that I had been cho

New Delhi: Congress leader Manish Tewari has called the Con gress leaders attack ing Ghulam Nabi Azad as peons. Azad has already described the leaders associated with the Congress high command as sycophants. Now Ti wari has called them a peon. In a letter to Sonia Gandhi, Azad has said that Rahul Gandhi’s ordinance tearing became the biggest reason for the Congress’s defeat in 2014. But he did not write that the lan guage and arrogance of leaders like Man ish Tewari and Kapil Sibal also played a big role. Manish Tewari had said in a press conference at the peak of Anna Haz are’s movement that Anna too is immersed in corruption from head to toe. This statement of Manish Tewari proved to be the last nail in the coffin of Congress. z How do you see Pandit Nehru’s move of theinternationalisingKashmirissue? It was made an interna tional issue at the be hest of Sheikh Abdul lah in the same manner the recent incidents were made into interna tional issues using the Human Rights way. It was an embarassing situation for the nation amongst countries of the world and India had to send its Ambassadors to explain the situation to other nations. Ulti mately everything rec onciled and now only two nations, Pakistan and China, raise the Kashmir issue. Nehru sent Sheikh Abdullah to UN to inform the na tions that no Human Right violations have taken place and there is democracy in Kashmir. But it is said that he did not play his role propo erly and that he spoke with USA and other na tions to find a way of making Kashmir a sepa rate nation. So the inter nationalisation of Kashmir issue was ac tually a wrong step but for it, along with Nehru, Sheikh Abdullah is also responsible.

z How do you analyse the ‘double Singh?ionManojLieutenantdoofgovernment’engineintermsKashmirandhowyouseetheroleofGovernorSinhaandUnministerJitendra Dr Jagdeesh Chan dra: This double en gine government is successful as coordina tion between both is extremely good. What normally happens is that when two senior leaders of a party are working in one state, then automatically two parallel power centres get formed. But fortu nately both are mature individuals and hence power centres have not formed. Dr. Jitendra Singh is a decent and dignified individual who takes interest in Kashmir’s develop ment. He has started 75 new projects in region. So coordination be tween LG and Centre’s nominee Dr. Jitendra Singh is perfect and it should be hoped that this coordination will do wonders for Kash mir and that there will not be any personal differences between them.

z Sheikh Abdullah has been a central figure in Kashmir’s politics. What was the reason that he was again given the reins of Kashmir? Sheikh Abdullah has been a historical figure in Kashmir’s history at times positive, at times negative. He changed his colors acording to the circumstances. His only wish was to be the prime minister of inde pendent Kashmir. It was this wish of his under which he took several Uturns. It was govern ment’s helplessness since it was believed that he was the voice of Kashmir and so people supported him but what happened in the end made people realise that they were betrayed by Sheikh Abdullah. There were political compul sions of Pandit Nehru who wanted to take him along to handle Kash mir issue. In 1953, it was learnt by the intelli gence that Abdullah wanted to join Pakistan for which he left from Sri Nagar saying that he is going to some place. But when the agencies started search for him, he was found in Gul marg. The plan was that he would meet the Paki stani leadership some where and before BBC he would announce separation of Kashmir and as an independent entity. But before all could happen, he was arrested. But politics is never right or wrong. So after 22 years he re turned to main stream of politics and was ap pointed as chief minis ter, and not as prime minister. Indira Gandhi kept him as CM for five years and he won the electin in 1977. When he passed away in 1982, his son Farooq Abdullah was made the chief min ister. So his legacy has been a mixed bag and that legacy has been carried forward by Umar Abdullah today.

z What is your obser vation of 2 years of Manoj Sinha as LG? His ternure so ar has been good. The most important point is that after a long time, a straight forward and simple person who is an out and out politi cian has been brought here. The Raj Bhawan here has been in the hands of bureaucrats and although the babus have done a good job, but Narendra Modi and Amit Shah anted that a political face should come here be cause they wanted a political solution of the problem and hence as the political face of the government he has come here. His term has been dignified, there has not been any controversy associated with him. As regards development, he is do ing a good job through PM Modi’s fifty eight thousand crore rupee package, one lakh crore rupees have been spent on roads, in the past seventy years, merely three thousand megawatt electricity was being produced but in the past two years it has increased by 3500 megawatts and add to this is the invest ment being promised here, so by and large it can be said that he has been a successful LG.

In the third installment of The New JC Show, CEO & Editor-inChief of First India & Bharat24, Dr Jagdeesh Chandra gives a detailed analysis on Kashmir’s political history, the recent change in political narrative in the Valley and the controversial role played by Sheikh Abdullah.…

z It is also said that the main responsibil ity of getting Article 370 imposed on Kash mir lies with Sheikh Abdullah? Of course. He was a hero at that time and through 370 he gained honour and built an im age among his voters. But Amit Shah gained honour by abroating it. Both the men garnered honour at different times. He bacame a hero for Kashmiris that they could follow a separate constitution. It was then that there were two Flags, one of Kashmir and other of India. Now after abrogation, only Tricolor remains which is installed everywhere. There used to be a holi day on Sheikh Abdul lah’s birthday, which has been done away with now. Thirdly, they have done away with dual citizenship.

z Can we urge you to share another inci dent associated with Narendra Modi and Kashmir from the times of Kargil war? It is an emotional inci dent and extremely close to Narendra Modi’s heart since it abounds in national ism. He came to Sri Na gar’s Army hospital and saw a jawan who had lost his arms and legs and was on the bed. Modi and the then CM of Himachal Pradesh had gone to meet the soldiers and had taken flowers and fruits with them. But the soldier had anger in his eyes, perhaps be cause he had lost his hands and legs and he could not take the flow ers etc, and people thought that he did not like it. It was thought that the jawan was an gry on the government that it is due to the gov ernment he was in such a situation. They came back and tried to learn more about the jawan and it was then they found out that he had lost his hands and legs. The next day they went again to meet that jawan, who said that he was in pain the day before and today there was no pain so he was elated. When they questioned why isn’t he in pain, he replied that today the Indian Army has won the bat tle on Tiger Hill where he had sustained those wounds. Narendra Modi immediately stooped down and hugged the soldier with tears in his eyes. This was the emotion al incident.

z How do you rank the ‘Har Ghar Tiran ga’ campaign as the Kashmiri youth, which had stones in their hands, was seen with Tiranga this time around? There are two parts to it. First there is the Val ley and then the re maining area of the nation. It was more of a symbolic situation in the Valley. The cam paign wasn’t celebrat ed on a large level and one can understand the sentiment of locals. BJP definitely tried and in a reasonable numbers people took part in the campaign, which sent a message in the people. Then comes the rest of the country where it was a revolution. It was close to mobilization. I have been unable to under stand what type to na tional leader Narendra Modi is, since the en tire nation stands with him when he gives a call. People followed his call on Har Ghar Ti ranga in every part of the nation and even in Jammu, which is part of J&K Union Territo ry, celebrated the cam paign amid much pomp. Modi’s slogan have in a way given re birth to the craze for Tricolour. Modi’s cam paign was superhit.

November 19, 1990 a black day in India’s history and a blot on Kashmir’s secularism: Dr Chandra

z Srinagar’s Lal Chowk used to be a synonym of terror ism, throw a light on the situation that ex isted in earlier times and how it is now. I would urge you to vis it Lal Chowk and take in the essence. Lal Chowk was synonym with terrorism where on january 26, 1992, Nanrendra Modi put his life in danger to un furl the Tricolor. It was a time when firing by terrorists was the order of the day, there was so much terror that even military was not al lowed to go there, but Narendra Modi did it. Perhaps it was the most risky moment of Nar endra Modi’s life. That was a time and now the times are different. I went to the lal Chowk recently and was fairly surprised at the hustle and bustle, there are shops and people are walking about like nothing happened. Life has completely changed.

z When Hindus were being forced to leave the Valley, shouldn’t the governments of that time be held re sponsible for such mi gration? It should definitely be. November 19, 1990 is a black day in Indian his tory, it was a black day of Kashmiri secular ism. Hindu families were confined to their homes, they did not know what to do. There were no one to save them and lawlessness ran amock on Kashmir’s roads that day. The then Governor - Jagmohanwas in Jammu and al though he flew for Kash mir, he had to return back as the weather was not conducive to land in Sri Nagar. So there was no one to take the reins and handle the situa tion. Although he was a failure on that day, but later when the intelli gence set up apprised him that the Kashmiris were again going to de clare independence, he ordered curfew across Kashmir and the plan of Abdullahs got foiled again. So Jagmohan was partly responsbile for that debacle of Hin dus leaving the Valley but the way he managed what could have been the next big shock, he could be appreciated.

CEO & Editor-in-Chief First India & Bharat24, Dr Jagdeesh Chandra gives a detailed analysis on Kashmir and how the atmosphere in the state changed post abrogation of Article 370, how Amit Shah, a leader who works over 20 hours day has carved niche for himself, how the grand vision and foresightedness of PM Narendra Modi brought about the change in Kashmir. Excerpts… (Part II)

z What about political possibilities regarding Kashmir and BJP? After the major politi cal development, the coming together of BJP and National Confer ence, it now seems that government will be formed. It is believed that their government will be formed but it will have to be seen who will become the CM.

z Was it right to make Dr Karan Sin gh the Sadar-I-Riya sat of Kashmir in 1952, specially since Sheikh Abdullah was active in mainstream politics? See when a person de cides on something, it is done to the best of his vision and judgement. But that was a wrong decision. History later revealed that it was a mistake and although that move does not have a major relevance today, but at that time it was a tactical error.
