Du, Hellmi Beerli, warst es, der mir vor über zehn Jahren die richtigen Fragen zum «falschen Zeitpunkt» gestellt hast. Du hast mich mit unbequemen Fragen gelöchert: warum es ausgerechnet in St. Moritz ein Jazz-Festival braucht, wie die Musiker dort heraufkommen, wo sie wohnen und vorallem: WER das bezahlen soll! Während endlosen Mittagessen (es waren die längsten, kreativsten und schönsten in meinem Leben!) haben wir gemeinsam das Segel langsam hochgezogen. Du hast mir geholfen, den Vogel zum Fliegen zu bringen. Und gleichzeitig wurdest du zum ersten Kreativ-Mäzen des Festivals. Die Liebe zur Musik und der freundschaftlichkritische Austausch ist es, was uns Kulturmacher immer wieder antreibt, nicht aufzugeben. Es sind die wahren Gründe, warum wir uns den Wahnsinn jedes Jahr von Neuem antun. Danke für alles, was du für das Festival, seine Besucher und für uns getan hast. In Dankbarkeit und Verbundenheit. Dear Hellmi To convert an idea into reality it always needs two people. Or even more. You, Hellmi Beerli, were the one who asked me the right questions “at the wrong time”, over ten years ago. You asked me the uncomfortable questions, as why of all places there should be a festival in St. Moritz, how the musicians would find their way there, where they would stay, and especially, WHO should pay for it all! During prolonged lunches (they were the longest, most creative and most beautiful of my life!) we slowly but surely set sail. You helped me get the project off the ground. And at the same time, you became the festivals first creative patron. The love of music and the friendly but critical exchange with others keeps us creative artists going and gives us the strength not to give up. These are the real reasons, why we commit to this madness year after year. Thank you for everything you did for the festival, its visitors and for us.
