FOOTPRINTS IN FAYETTEVILLE

Fleet Feet Fayetteville

Interview with Asha S. Ruth, Marketing Coordinator

Tell us about Fleet Feet: I consider us the “unofficial” shoe doctors of Fayetteville. What makes us unique is that we offer our guests a 3D foot analysis and help them to better understand their feet profile. All of our outfitters have knowledge to assess our customers feet and tailor their shoe fitting experience to their specific needs.

What kind of shopping experience do you provide for customers? And what services and products do you provide?

When you arrive at our store you are greeted and asked about your needs/wants for visiting our store. After learning some background information on our guest 1: We give you 3D analysis of your feet, 2: Recommend a few shoes that we feel would fit your feet the best based on your need and or ailments 3: Have you try on the shoes to assess comfort 4: Inform you of the benefits of choosing the right shoe and all the health and wellness community training and events that we have that you can attend to lead a healthier more comfortable lifestyle.

Now let’s get into these community runs! What should people expect when they join Fleet Feet on a community run?

When joining in on weekly our Community Runs (every Monday 6pm), you can expect a good run with

We have people come out at all running levels with different goals. So, you are bound to find that person with a similar passion and plan as you, that you can run with and hold one another accountable.

Why do you feel it’s important to engage our community outside of the shop?

Our community is what helps us thrive as a business. If we can’t gain the trust of the community as being their GO TO running/health and wellness store then we fail at our mission of promoting a healthier more comfortable lifestyle.

How did the Maud 2.23 run come about and what impact do you want it to have on our community of FAYNC?

The Maud 2.23 run that we’ve hosted annually since the death of Ahmaud Arbery was put together by Together We Stand NC. We want to be able to bring our community together and inform them of the racial injustices that our communities face nationwide. It is not just a one time occurrence but rather something that can be curved if people knew more about how it impacts a vast portion of our communities.

EVERYONE DESERVES THE RIGHT TO BE ABLE TO JUST EXIST IN THEIR COMMUNITY WITHOUT THE FEELING OF NOT BEING SAFE AND /OR SECURE.

I’m sure people are wondering, so tell us how can people get involved with Fleet Feet? If you want to be involved with Fleet Feet we recommend following our Instagram account @FleetFeetFayetteville. There, you can keep up with our latest events, training, shoe releases, and more!

What kind of footprint would you like to leave in FAYNC?

Hopefully, we leave millions of footprints around Fayetteville whether it’s Hoka, Brooks, ON, Saucony or New Balance (all puns intended). But in all seriousness, we hope to leave the footprint that we helped someone to lead a healthier and more comfortable life. We are here for YOU. Contact

What’s a good running shoe you recommend for beginning runners? Like the go-to shoe! I would say the GO-TO shoes depend on the anatomy of your feet. There is no set shoe for just one person because we are all unique in the needs we want out of shoes. That’s why we recommend you come down to our store and get evaluated.

TRUST ME, you won’t be disappointed!

"Every year for this week we have this event called Maud 2.23. 2.23 stands for the date he was killed but not just for Ahmaud Arbery, but all the other people that lost their lives because of hate, ignorance, and racism So the goal for today is two things, number one we have an obligation to each other Respect, compassion, empathy, honesty that’s our obligation We have an opportunity today to talk with each other, to each other and to listen One of the things we talk about all the time is about not hearing, listening -because if you listen you’ll understand and also you can learn. We’re all different so we all have a different lens. My lens is different than my wife’s lens and anybody else’s lens So the way to learn from people is to listen to their stories through their lenses that’s the key.”

DRIPPING WITH CREATIVITYRHYTHM + PAINT 2023

March 18, 2023 Event Coverage

Wet Paint, smooth energy, and drippy rhymes illustrated this special occasion. Vison26, an event production company, hosted a modern yet cultured Sip and Paint. Trent L. Holmes, also known as Bigg Trent, had the 2-6 experience art on a new level. Trent stated,

I created Rhythm & Paint two years ago in 2019. It was my way of twisting the regular Sip & Paint. I love Sip and Paints but I wanted to elevate it to a new level of culture and blacktivity.”

He laughed kindly as the aroma of food danced around us.

Host of the night, Narciso Bowman, beamed and stated,

“First of all, shout out to my good brother Bigg Trent from Vision26 creative productions Rhythm & Paint is a vibe! It takes a spin on the Sip and Paint experience Coming into a gallery and experiencing creativity high energy, and true engagement is beautiful. I am so proud of him. I love what Trent is doing for the city of Fayetteville.”

In the atmosphere, you could feel a strong sense of rich art wrapped in an evening of joy. Blank canvases sat beautifully on the tables, waiting for their painter. Pallets filled with blues, whites, and purples drew in curiosity. What will the painting be of? The room filled as the attendees entered into a Vision26 experience.

The Main Event Let’s get into the waviest moment of the evening

You ask, what was the night’s choice of illustration? Take a guess! Okay, okay, I will tell you. The attendees painted the ocean—an ocean with serene purples, greens, and warm sand. Reddick, also known as Kognoscenti, led the painting course.

He took the gallery’s floor. Dressed relaxed yet cool as a diamond, he began.

I am Kognoscenti, signifying a carnosaur of all arts.”

His canvas stood before the audience. It held divisions of horizons, separating and setting the painting’s background.

He explained the paint basics, the foundation of brush direction, and the passion for seeing a vision. Going deeper into the waters, Kognoscenti dove into the principles of highlights and shadows.

Dripping blues, splashes of paint water, and artistry grew each minute. By the night’s end, you could have called us all Leonardo da Vinci and Claude Monet! Witnessing the rhythm of paint in everyone was as deep as the sea.

Overall, Rhythm & Paint’s instructor Kognoscenti was an incredible teacher overflowing with zeal and creative instruction.

Rhythm & Paint Vendors

Drip Drip Oooo

A pleasing touch to Rhythm & Paint was a feature of all arts, including fine clothing. Accordingly, the Rhythm & Paint vendors exhibited fantastic creativity in high fashion and artistry. Around the gallery space stood Kids That Still Dream, Faith Over Fear, Visionaries Clothing, and Christina Nicole Designs.

Kornball, a Fayetteville native, founded KTSD - Kids That Still Dream. His rack held some sick designs. Kornball stated, “My clothes mean a lot to me. I am very passionate about it. I started young, and seeing it come to fruition feels good. It’s tangible now; it is no longer a dream.” My favorite piece from his rack was his off-the-shoulder varsity bomber-style jacket. I could see myself in it! With locs and thoughtful thoughts, Kornball said,

“IT TAKES A LOT OF HARD WORK, PUSHING THROUGH FRUSTRATION, AND A LOT OF CREATIVITY.”

He continued,

“I GUESS IT’S CLICHE TO SAY, BUT NEVER GIVE UP. THE NAME OF MY BRAND IS KIDS THAT STILL DREAM, AND IT SUPPORTS THE NOTION OF CHASING YOUR DREAMS, NO MATTER HOW OLD YOU GET. JUST CONTINUE TO GRIND AND WORK HARD, AND IT WILL WORK OUT FOR YOU.”

Following, Jeremy, founder of Faith Over Fear, expressed his love for fashion in a different sense.

“I AM A COLLECTOR I BINGE VINTAGE AND THRIFT I PARTICIPATE IN MANY VINTAGE POP-UP EVENTS AND ART SCENES LIKE THIS.”

At his table were some dope forces, one-of-a-kind wrangler jeans, and additional apparel that always stays in style. Jeremy expressed,

“I AM A CURATOR. I FIND COOL NICHES. WHETHER IT BE MUSIC T-SHIRTS OR SOMETHING WE GREW UP ON LIKE SPONGEBOB, ED ED + EDDY, OR JUST THE CLASSICS, I CURATE THAT THROUGH FASHION AND APPAREL.”

His style is one for the books, and I just remembered I didn’t ask him for the lookout! Yo Jeremy! If you are reading this, ya girl needs some vintage forces! I want a pair that no one has. Can you help ya girl out? I know you got the hookup!

FAYNC MAGAZINE 16
Dripping with Creativity - Rhythm + Paint 2023

Lastly, Nicolas Crecy, founder of Visionaries Clothing, had swag down from the bags to affirmative t’s. Nicolas articulated,

“YOU ARE HERE WITH VISIONARIES CLOTHING WE ARE A BRAND THAT PUSHES FOR SELFAWARENESS. WE WANT PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO SEE BEYOND WHAT THEY SEE.”

This concept of vision caught my eye. Nicolas said,

“A VISIONARY IS SOMEONE WHO SEES FURTHER THAN WHAT IS PHYSICALLY IN FRONT OF THEM. THUS, WE BRING THAT TO WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING TO YOUR EVERYDAY WEAR.”

I asked Nicolas to leave some gems for the community, and he responded,

“YOU GOTTA SEE BEFORE YOU SEE IT, OR YOU WILL NEVER SEE IT. KEEP GOING, DON’T STOP. YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING? THINGS MAY GET DISCOURAGING, AND SOMETIMES IT MAY GET CHALLENGING. BUT JUST KEEP GOING! AND KEEP SEEING YOUR VISION.”

In addition to fashion, another vendor had me stop dead in my tracks! Stargazing into the painting of a black woman, I felt God stretching in her skin. Visual artist Christina Miles, founder of Christina Nicole Designs, radiated and spoke gently,

“THE ARTWORK IS NAMED “AFTER ALL, WE THRIVE. ”

The painting was a triptych, portraying the black feminine experience inside cultural controls and outside bounding labels. Christina stood beside the set and explained,

“THE PIECES ARE “ALTHOUGH SEXUALIZED WE ARE BEAUTIFUL,” “EVEN BOXED IN WE SHINE,” & “AFTER ALL, WE THRIVE.” THIS COLLECTION IS AN ODE TO BLACK WOMEN AND HOW, REGARDLESS OF THE BOXES OTHER PEOPLE TRY TO PUT US IN, ‘WE STILL THRIVE AFTER ALL.’”

Wow. That was all I could say because, at that moment, every black woman I loved stood in her painting. Furthermore, Christina Miles had a variety of illustrations for all ages and a range of creative designs.

BETWEEN THE FASHION KINGS AND THE QUEEN OF VISUAL ART, YA GIRL FELT LIKE SHE WAS IN ART HEAVEN! WHY? BECAUSE EVERY ASPECT OF ART IN RHYTHM & PAINT WAS BEYOND THE ORDINARY.

Rhythm & Paint Performances

Big Dreams, Big Waves, & Big Boss Energy

Trent, the creator of Rhythm & Paint, spoke with me about one highlight he was particularly excited about. Bigg Trent noted,

“I look forward to the performances. I am a singer myself; I love music, eclectic sounds, and mainly all genres of music. So tonight, I am excited to see the performers and how they will take the stage.”

The opening singer was the beautiful Carolina Dream. She sang to an Aaliyah beat dressed in ruched green threads. Her song was titled Fancy, and it orbited throughout the gallery.

The evening didn’t stop there. Stealing the night away, Ianna Rene, an NC artist, took the gallery by storm with the confidence of the galaxy. Her pen was immaculate, and her lyrics were electrifying. With two beautiful dancers, the three women charged up the crowd. The choreography was top-notch, the vocals were clean, and the vibe was right. Ianna Rene came and showed out, leaving the night on a high note!

Collectively, Rhythm & Paint was the embodiment of its name, the art of rhythm, and the beauty of paint. Attendees left with oceanic pieces that resembled a night of creativity soaked in soul. With creators like Trent, Kognoscenti, and Ianna Rene, alongside KTSD, Faith Over Fear, Visionaries Clothing, and Christina Nicole Designs, the 2-6 remains dripping with originality and great possibilities.

Who knew Fayetteville had such brilliant people and events? Baby, don’t worry. We did and always will! So stay locked in because FAYNC has got you covered. That’s a wrap! Peace and Love! You already know, it’s ya girl SWT, updating you with the real, the beautiful, and the hottest talk of the Ville. You heard it from us first! Rhythm & Paint, by the legendary Bigg Trent.

CULTURE COMMUNITY

Interview with LeNeal Toney, Sponsored DaVille Team Rider

So LeNeal, what brought you to FAYNC? Well, I moved here by chance kind of. I’m from PA originally. My family and I were on the way to FL and stopped here to visit family and kind of never left.

What made you want to pick up a skateboard?

I actually picked it up because I didn’t know too much about it really. I mean I played THPS (Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater) but there wasn’t a large presence of skating in my hometown/area at all. I then was hooked instantly though. Before I knew it I was quitting all the other sports left and right. There is so many skaters to choose from but

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE SKATEBOARD CULTURE HERE IN FAYNC ?

The culture to me, is that of an eclectic melting pot. Skating is already so rooted in street culture and diversity but due to FT BRAGG there are people from LITERALLY all over the country and even world here. So with them they bring their own styles and swaggers.

you only can choose one. Who’s your biggest skateboarding inspiration?

Be a liar if I didn’t say a pro by the name of Ishod Wair. When I decided that I wanted to be a “skater,” if you will, Ishod was the person who stuck out to me the most and who I took influence from like stylistically and what not.

There is definitely levels to this! How did you get to the level of skateboarding you are now? Psht, easy! WORK! I’ve skated night and day, day and night constantly pushing myself and learning new things and new perspectives within skating for the last 18 years. Well, minus recovery times from injuries, there hasn’t been a time that I took off of skating since the year 2005.

What’s it like being a sponsored DaVille Team Rider?

It’s pretty cool man, honestly. Terry has been a part of the growing industry since the 90s and had kind of held down this area almost single handedly and that is respectful. I’ve been a lot of places and it surprises me sometimes how known DaVille is.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years in your skateboarding career? I’m still out here working hard man. I’m gonna be going just as hard as I am now. Lately I have been working on some business ventures with my crew, DWAS or Dudes Who Always Skate, though. Working on merchandising and just growing. Hopefully I’ll be up and running fully by then. (@d.w.a.s on IG)

What would you tell someone who wants to get more into skateboarding?

I’d tell them to enjoy themselves NO MATTER WHAT. Whether you just roll around, casually learn tricks, want to compete and be sponsored; just have fun and enjoy as much of it as possible. OH, and get health insurance haha!

SEE BEYOND YOUR SIGHT

VISIONARIES Clothing NC LLC

Describe the meaning behind your brand and tell us what inspired you to create your clothing line?

The inspiration behind the brand is that we all have the potential to be great in life, we just have to find it within ourselves to see that greatness and own it. As a kid to the present, I have always loved fashion and everything about it. From the designs, to the fonts and even materials of the clothing, I also have a huge love for sneakers as well.

At a young age my mother worked hard to keep me in the trending clothes and sneakers. I can remember when my mother was working on creating a clothing brand herself when I was around 12 years old, she named it “BAF38” which was the initials of my late uncle Bruce A. Faison who passed at 38 years of age.

As I approached high school, the love for fashion did nothing but increase, I can remember getting something new almost every weekend and as I went into college, I decided to get with a friend of mine to create a clothing brand outline. This would be the start of my entrepreneurship and although the team ended up taking different routes over the years, everything I learned has allowed me to grow VISIONARIES to what it is today.

Manifestation is important. Shout out to my uncle Royvell Godbolt who taught me some wise words. The saying goes, “YOU HAVE TO SEE IT, BEFORE YOU SEE IT, OR YOU WILL NEVER SEE IT.” This has always stuck with me and influenced the brand so much that we decided to drop a tee with a similar quote on the back. The “See Beyond Your Sight” Tee, which has become one of our best sellers.

In all, we want to inspire people to see beyond what they physically see in front of them and think about what they see within themselves and wear that confidently, similar to how you feel when you put on some new clothes.

Man, the brand as a whole is FIRE! How do you come up with your designs? What is your creative process?

THANK YOU, I basically see or hear things around me on a day to day and just use my surroundings as inspirations. Life is full of inspiration for me, to channel it we just have to take out the time to notice the things around and use them to inspire us.

As far as the creative process goes, I meet with the team for our brainstorming session and share sketches and references to pieces that are not only in style but represent the street-wear culture we serve. After we form the design and get a few things mocked up, we go into a lengthy process of manufacturing where I hand select materials and garments. This is usually the longest part because I stress quality as well as giving my customers a reasonable price point.

FAYNC MAGAZINE 26
See Beyond Your Sight

Now let’s get into this new drop! Tell us about your new drop released this February.

The Love collection was a Valentine Day exclusive with a twist. We took the idea of love and thought about what has gotten us this far as a brand… then boom Loyalty, which sparked the whole Love Over Loyalty tee.

The Love collection is one of our most detailed collections released as a brand. This collection includes a long sleeve tee, a pair of sweats, a trucker hat, along with a few accessories that I have had in my bag for awhile.

The Loyalty Over Love long sleeve tee is mixed with puff and flat screen print which can be seen throughout the design, on the front and back we keep it consistent with a large design and even added print on the sleeve. As far as the sweatpants, we also included a high quality thick puff down the leg with our standard logo name VISIONARIES.

And for the final piece, we threw in our NC Trucker hat which has a mixer of patches and embroidery. We highlighted NC for this one including 910 area code embroidered on the back and our state bird the cardinal as well. Although all the pieces were initially a Valentine’s Day exclusive, we decided to continue them for purchase due to the fact they caught good attraction and can live outside the Valentine’s Day theme.

How do you want people to feel wearing your brand?

We would love for people to be comfortable when wearing one of our pieces whether it’s a hat or a matching set, knowing the design was created with our community and culture in mind. We hope that someone wearing our clothing not only wears it because it looks good, but shares that same drive to inspire others to continue chasing their goals because there is really nothing stopping you but YOU.

The StingersFayetteville

Interview with Kenneth Bishop, Team Market Owner

Yo! We’re here with Kenneth Bishop, owner of the Fayetteville Stingers, what do you want FAYNC to know about you as the Fayetteville Stingers Team Market Owner?

I’m all about community and giving back. Making sure our organization inspires our youth in a positive direction and be role models.

When did you realize FAYNC needed a minor league basketball team and how did you know

As the inaugural season approaches what are some things you are excited for FAYNC to experience from the Stingers?

I’m excited that we can provide family affordable entertainment in basketball. The level of entertainment we bring plus getting involved with the community and becoming that positive impact is what excites me the most.

Describe the vibe that you want fans to experience at Stingers games? Give us a glimpse of what we can expect before tip-off, during half time, and throughout the whole game? We’re definitely ready for those vibes for real!

Family! That’s the vibe we want to create, when

Now this is where it gets even more interesting. So now let’s dive into the team, What was the process like for building this team?

Umm, it was interesting really, I first wanted to see what the response from the community would be like. So social media is really where I started. I made a simple post that said “coming in 2023” and it got quite a few shares and likes and the conversation started from there. Moving on to find the GM and coach was huge.

Tell us about your community events you’ve done prior to the season and others you plan to do in the future:

So far we’ve held an event mixer way back in June, we followed that up with the Father/Son clinic and Father/Daughter Clinic. During our tryouts we held a free clinic after every tryout for local youth as well. We held a tryout at 71st High School and they had the basketball team come out and work with the guys.

FAYNC MAGAZINE 29
The New Buzz Around Town

We also partnered with Parks and Recs and held a clinic for ages 6-17. All clinics have been free. We adopted a street, So B St. is Adopted by the Stingers and we will go out and clean up the streets about six times a year.

There is a lot more in store for the season, I can’t give all the details but it’s going to be special.

What are your future aspirations for players on the Stingers?

We want these guys to grow in their profession. Become the professional they want to be, to inspire and give back.

How do you hope the Stingers will impact FAYNC?

I honestly hope we already have made an impact in the short year we’ve been here. Moving forward, when people speak on Fayetteville I want them to take pride in their pro basketball team and know the positive impact we have on our community. Know who we are not just on the court but more so the things we do off the court and the lives we’ve impacted.

If you could send a message to our community what do you want them to know: Buzz On, it’s not just a play on the Stingers but it’s really what we do. We make and create a Buzz when we hit the streets, the schools, the shelters and so on. It will be heard about and told that the Stingers made an impact. There will be buzz around the town.

Do you have any motivation or words of encouragement for the young Hoopers in the community or a younger version of yourself?

“I would tell them that if they treat the game with love it will love them back. Also, whatever you pour into the game it will pour back into you. I’ve learned that the difference between an amateur and a professional is that an amateur does it until he gets it right, but a professional does it until they can’t get it wrong. Understand that there are sacrifices you must be willing to make. Sometimes it’s as simple as getting off TikTok or playing video games. Honestly, I believe that wholeheartedly.”

FAYNC MAGAZINE 30
JOSE ROMAN -ANGUEIRA @lsv.riico

Being a captain means you have to be the guy that everyone looks to on the court, so what does leadership mean to you?

“It means everything, before you can lead you must first be willing to follow. I love being able to lead, not so much by telling everyone what to do, but by making sure that everyone stays energized and motivated. Knowing where to be at the right spot is a part of it too. Everyone on the team is a leader. I’m just more so the vocal leader, the translation of whatever Coach needs to be said. Whatever he wants to be done on the court it is my job to communicate that. I have two uncles that played in the NBA, so I was born into a family of scorers. So my job growing up was to be able to do something that was a little different.”

What does it mean to be a part of Fayetteville’s first minor-league professional basketball team?

“It means a lot actually! When they first asked me to come I didn’t expect it to be this big, but it’s actually bigger than what I expected. The kids come out, the community comes out and that’s big for me. Giving back to the game of life is so important for all of us. I’m constantly reminding myself that my legacy on the court is just as big as my legacy off the court. So I feel being the first team here is something we have to cherish and kind of build from the ground up.”

JOSH DAWSON

Tell me what does it mean to you to be a dancer for the Fayetteville Stingers?

“I feel as though it’s all about teamwork. Being a part of this organization makes me feel very supportive. I have a condition known as rheumatoid arthritis. So being here not only helps me control my condition but also keeps me active and fit. Everyone on the team including the basketball players makes me feel very comfortable.”

Is dance a passion for you?

“Yes, dance is my first love. I started dancing at three years old taking African dance classes. Then it grew further with my singing, so I would sing praise & worship at the church.”

When fans come to the games they will be expecting energy. So being a part of this team, what does energy mean to you?

“Energy for me it’s losing myself in the dance. I like to make eye contact and I want to make everybody want to jump down and dance with me. Really, that’s just it! No looking down at the floor. Being confident! If you’re not making ugly faces you’re not dancing hard enough.”

Is this your first year as a Coach?

If so, what are your goals for the season?

“Yes, it is my first year coaching. My goal for this year is to connect with the community and show these girls that they can live their dream. This is a dream of mine, so I’m really just trying to connect with the younger generation of dancers. Also, if there are any women out there who desire to dance this is for them too. I hope this inspires women that think it’s too late as well. This is not just for the younger crowd. I hope for all of us to reach our dreams. It’s all about getting my dream accomplished, therefore I can help others in the community reach their dreams as well.”

The Fayetteville Stingers Home-Opener

Game Experience

Zairis T Miles

The New Buzz Around Town is that The TBL has finally landed in FAYNC!! We have been waiting for this day! The day that Professional Basketball would be in our great city of Fayetteville!

The Stingers definitely set the tone for the season for their Home opener game! The energy was up and the vibes were right.

Prior to the game, The Stingers made a brief cameo on the court to do some warm-up drills, and immediately they were on point and the crowd was loving it! After they went through their drills they ran back to the locker room to get ready for the home opener game. As time decreased the stands filled up more and more and MORE! Then all of a sudden the lights went out and a bright spotlight appeared and shined towards a corner. All eyes and heads turned and looked to see what was going on. Then the announcer started to announce The Stingers before they stepped on the court. Everyone in the Crown Arena was waiting for the highly anticipated game and for the Stingers Players to hit the court. During this time there was another spotlight directly on the person performing the National Anthem which was definitely on point!

As soon as the National Anthem was over the DJ turned up the music and the announcer began to call out each player as they ran onto the court while the cheerleaders were on both sides forming a tunnel hype as ever. The whole Stingers Team was way beyond hype jumping around and screaming as the music went all the way up! Each player was announced individually while running onto the court! The crowd went crazy from each corner of The Crown Arena! The time had finally arrived and The New Buzz Around Town was being seen first hand live and direct! I was court-side the whole game so you already know ya boy was as hype as ever!

Now let’s get into this game! The official home opener against the Florida Force! I know y’all have been waiting on this so let’s go! From my viewpoint this is how it went down! So pay close attention! The Stingers were not letting up in the first half of the game.

Even Though they were down 26 to 29 they kept the faith and had great team work to get ahead in the game. This showed me how great of a team they was simply because they didn’t give up, they amped up and got it poppin! They were like “ain’t no way we started our Home Opener Up like this!” They were applying pressure! From then on out it was Full force and drive, that amped each and every one of The Stingers Players! They really were not letting up and keeping up their stamina going up and down the court. The DJ had the crowd engaged with the vibes and the Host Tameka Bright definitely kept the crowd engaged throughout the whole game.

Halftime! Some of y'all’s favorite part of the game! The Stingers Dance Team gracefully walked around the court to make their debut. As the players walked off the court the dancers graced the court with their presence! Immediately the DJ started the music and it was on and poppin’ from there! They had the moves, the vibes and the Buzz! They made it look easy from their great dance moves to their flips and high jumps! All eyes were on the dance team as they kept the high energy going until the next quarter started.

By the end of the third quarter, The Stingers were up and Buzzin 96 to 82 and were keeping that momentum up and going! The fans were in hive and hype as ever! Both Head Coach Robert Brickey and Assistant Coach Don Gardner really were on The Stingers at this point. To ensure that they keep applying pressure so the Florida Force could not even have the energy to bring any force. General Manager Raymond Philips had his hand on his chin strategically watching court-side walking back and forth. The Team Market Owner Kenneth Bishop Jr. had all smiles and excitement and overall was happy about how everything was going down!

Now for The Climb Back! As halftime approached, dunks and nothing but net shots had the basketball rim boomin’! Teamwork makes the dream work! The Stingers were up 57 to 55! They definitely put in that work to end the first half on a good note! Head Coach Robert Brickey and Assistant Coach Don Gardner immediately were on 10 at the half!

So yall! As the time dwindled down the whole Crown Arena was HYPE! THE STINGERS WON! You already know what I was on!

HYPE MODE!” Not only me but the whole Crown Arena! What a great way to debut in FAYNC! The buzzer went off and the team stormed the court celebrating their victory! 135 to 98! They stung the Florida Force! What Force!? Like they really came all the way from Florida to the Hive and thought we were going to catch a loss hmm not tonight I think not! They must not know how we do in The Ville! All the fans later joined the court to celebrate the great victory! Players from the Stingers were very welcoming to the fans joining them on the court. From signing autographs, all the way to taking pictures and selfies. The Player of the game was Courtese Cooper with 14 points and 15 rebounds. He definitely set the tone for the Stingers!

The Stingers are officially The New Buzz Around Town!

NEXT UP: ZEKE BROCK

Local Basketball Phenom

What’s up! We’re excited to be here with Zeke Brock, a junior at Cape Fear Christian Academy, what do you want FAYNC to know about what basketball means to you? It’s a blessing to have the amount of talent that I have and to be able to play at the level I am. Basketball is life.

What type of conditioning, training, and dedication is required to be ranked as a top leading scorer in the state? I have been playing with a basketball since I was 2 years old. My dad played basketball and always had me in the gym with him, so I’ve always loved to play with a basketball. I dedicated myself to the game as soon as I could dribble the ball. I am constantly in the gym working on my skill set. I play on a someone’s team year round. I am normally the first one at the gym and last one to leave at the end.

Growing up, who was your favorite basketball player? Is he still your favorite player and do you model your style after him?

Growing up my favorite player was Rajon Rondo, but as I got older Steph Curry would become my favorite. My style is unique. I don’t really feel like I model myself after anyone. I’m me.

Now before we talk about the unbelievable numbers you’re putting up, let’s backtrack for a second. Last year as a sophomore you led the state, averaging 10 assists per game. That’s wild! Tell me about the dynamics of that season in comparison to this one. Last year I played with a lot of upper class men who were a more experienced team and all I had to do was feed them the ball. This year my team is young. They are still learning and mastering their skills. Still becoming familiar with the game, so as the point guard my job is to lead my team. To be whatever it is they need me to be. By assisting in the points or making them.

Alright, now let’s get into these stats. Currently you’re averaging 34.6 points per game, 2.7 assist and shooting 55% from the FG. I want to throw out some of your highest scoring games for the people that don’t know. 41, 44, 48, and 51! What happened between your sophomore year and junior year that allowed you to evolve from top-ranked assist into top-ranked scorer?

I’ve always been a good shooter but I like to keep my team mates involved and having fun. My role is just revised in what is needed this year from what was needed last year.

Lastly, describe to the people what they can expect to see from you in the upcoming season? The energy you bring and the evolution of your game as you continue to grow. I plan to be the best. I strive for it everyday. You can expect me to be me, playing the game that I love and being the best that I can be.

2023 Fayetteville Dogwood Festival

year’s festival?

I am the most excited to see the event come together. The excitement is not only in being present at the event and certain aspects of the festival itself, but it is the excitement behind seeing all of the organization’s hard work come to life.

How does the Dogwood Festival impact our community?

The Fayetteville Dogwood Festival is a free and public event for the community. From all ages to all types of people, there is something for everyone. Littles can enjoy the KidZone, Bigs can enjoy the Midway, adults can enjoy the live music, and of course, everyone enjoys the food and vendors!

How can community members and organizations get involved?

How and when did the Dogwood Festival start?

The Fayetteville Dogwood Festival was established in 1982 when several community members such as Bill Hurley and John Malzone sought to hold a festival downtown for the community. Back in the day, the festival was nearly two weeks long and today, it has transitioned into a three-day festival with national headliners.

What can we expect from the Dogwood Festival this year?

FREE events for the family to enjoy. This year, we have made several initiatives to heighten the experience of the festival patrons and this includes an expansion of vendors on Hay Street, activities for all ages on Gillespie Street, and many other attractions within the footprint.

Anyone interested with the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival can email info@thedogwoodfestival.com or visit our website at thedogwoodfestival.com to sign-up to be a volunteer. We are always looking for help as an event like ours takes a community to create. Interested in sponsoring the festival? Email Sarahgrace Mitchell at director@thedogwoodfestival.com.

When do you begin planning each year and how do you select the performing artists?

The Fayetteville Dogwood Festival plans for the April Festival year-round, but in smaller segments in accordance with our other events – Fayetteville After Five and the Dogwood Fall Festival. We select performing artists based on our budget and popularity to the Fayetteville market.

What is a quote that you live by?

To whom much is given, much is required. Because I come from a family of pastors, I was raised in a very altruistic environment. My parents taught me the importance of giving to those in need. And I realized at a young age that I am in the position to give.
