The Library enjoyed bringing a new family element to the Taste of Farmville - the Main Street StoryWalk. We hoped that many of you were able to read the story as you walked through downtown and that you stopped in some or all of the stores that had ornament kits of Otto’s friends.
We would like to thank the Friends of the Library, the Chamber of Commerce and the following business for making the Main Street StoryWalk a great success: Up the Street Fiber Arts, Vintage Point, Farmville Hardware, PCC Ceramics, The GlassStation, S&J Auto Repair, La Cabanita, Farmville Pizza, Pharmville Drug, Farmville Furniture, Hiks Fashion, Dapper Dan, Outlaw Construction, Lee & Harrell, and the Corner Spa
In 1948, a new 32-room brick building, gymnasium, and home economics building were constructed in Farmville replacing the previous colored school It was renamed HB Sugg High School in 1951 for the school’s most beloved principal and teacher Herman Bryan Sugg. The school served colored children in grades 1-12 until 1971. In 1972 the school became integrated and was eventually closed in 1999. The HB Sugg school building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in November 2020.
Mr. Dominique Baker has a great love for preserving the history of the school. He has a large collection of its yearbooks which he has used to assemble several scrapbooks. He has also constructed an amazing model of the school Mr Baker will be at the library on Saturday, December 7th from 10-11am to talk about the construction of his model and the work being done to preserve the school The model will be on display in the Local History Room until December 21st

Our movie stars Humphrey Bogart in one of his few comedic roles. After breaking out of prison on Devil's Island, Joseph and his two cohorts flee to a nearby town and hide in a shop run by kindhearted Felix family. These three convicts turn from self-serving to kindly and wise in this heart-warming Christmas classic.
