This summer’s Summer Reading theme is “Color Our World” which means our summer activities are full of art and color experiencesfrom our color themed Book Club and Classic Movie Club titles to the Storytime books and kids activities!
There are reading challenges and prizes for all ages from babies to our most senior readers Look for an explanation of the challenges later in the magazine or ask at the references desks for a copy of the kids’ reading/coloring log or the adult reading passport.
We have programs for all ages from toddlers to great-grandparents! Programs take place every day of the week, most beginning at 10am leaving plenty of the day open for other adventures. Passport 2025 AdultSummerReading

Summer Reading Kick-off

Enjoy a great story, then Littles 0-6 and their adult can tie-dye a tote bag for book checkout this summer.
12pm to 2pm Elementary Fun
Join us for a day of messy art activities: tie-dye a tote bag, mix a refreshing, colorful quencher, color pieces of our mystery mural, and chalk the walk

Toddler Storytime at 10am
Kids can waddle, toddle and wiggle during Toddler Time . This 30-minute program includes a read-together book, lap bounces, music, and movement with shaker eggs and scarves, and concludes with the bubble dance.
Thursdays
Preschool Storytime at 10am
Preschool Storytime features early literacy activities for ages 3-5 including a picture book read aloud, music and movement, and a hands-on activity including STEM and art projects.

Welcome to year two of the Summer Reading Passport! This year’s adult reading challenge runs June 14 - August 16. You can submit tickets to the raffle drawings (listed below) at the second floor circulation desk. You can use the tickets included in the passport, or ask for tickets at the circulation desk.
1) For every book you read (including e-books and audiobooks!), submit one ticket to the raffle of your choice.
2) For every adult program you attend, you get one ticket. Find adult programs listed here, on our website, and on Facebook.
3) There are 3 coloring pages included within this passport. You receive one ticket for each page you color.
If you fill up all 12 slips in the passport, you receive a Color Our World teddy bea
Bring your own snack and drinks!

Classic Film meets the second Monday of each month at 6:30pm. This summer’s movie titles fall under the “Colors” theme:

*We will meet at 6pm on August 11 for a potluck supper before the movie.
This is a group open to all those who love to crochet, knit, sew, embroidery, and more. Each person works on their own fiber art project, sharing ideas, techniques, and conversation!

Newspapers are a tough business, and no one knows that better than Rob Christensen, who was chief political reporter at North Carolina's capital newspaper, the News and Observer, for decades. Here he tells the story of the N&O and how it helped shape modern North Carolina in complicated ways.

In this demonstration Mike Tracy of ECU’s GlasStation will show off the process of torchworking by making a simple vessel while talking about the contemporary history of glass art. Meet us on the Library patio (facing Truist Bank). Everyone is welcome!

Join us for a special bonus Craft Night featuring tie dye! Bring one item from home to dye using Library materials. We recommend bringing a 100% cotton shirt. This is a great opportunity to up-cycle an old t-shirt! White bandanas will be provided for those who do not bring an item.
This program will be messy...come prepared! We will tie in the program room and dye on the Library patio.
