The Library is excited to announce our first adult workshop series. This series begins on October 2nd with the discussion of our second Community ReadOutside Heaven by local author Susan McIntyre - and ends on November 8 with the debut of an audio-visual exhibit of Farmville oral histories collected during the Princeton University Heirloom Gardens Oral History Project.
This workshop series is packed with many different ways to record, share, and enjoy treasured memories. The first two workshop sessions will be lead by Dr. Andre Taylor, a former award-winning journalist and oral historian for NC State and the College of William and Mary. His two live-virtual sessions include a talk entitled “Biscuits and Babble” in which he will share insights about how family recipes can lead to oral histories, and a demonstration modeling how everyone has the technology to be an oral historian right on their smart phone.
The series continues with a memoir writing workshop lead by NY Times bestselling author and Newberry Honor Winner Sheila Turnage. Next, we have the grand opening of our new Digitization Center which will be located in the Local History Room. There will be demonstrations of the new equipment for digitizing VHS tapes and audio cassettes, and scanning photos, documents, recipes and more. There will also be be an opportunity to register for training on the equipment.
To learn more about this exciting series go to the “Special Programs” page under Programs for Everyone - Adults on the library website.
