Prep time: 10 mins Cook Time: 40 mins Servings: 4

Ingredients 1 red onion, cut into 16 wedges 2 courgettes, in bite-sized pieces 1 red pepper, in bite-sized pieces 1 yellow pepper, in bite-sized pieces 3 tbsp olive oil 8 large pork sausages 2 garlic cloves, crushed 400g can chopped tomatoes 2 tbsp tomato puree Sprigs of rosemary

Directions 1. Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Place the onion, courgettes and peppers in a baking dish, large enough to fit them in a single layer.

Drizzle over 2 tbsp of olive oil and season. Cook in the oven for 20 mins 2. Meanwhile, heat the remaining olive oil in a frying pan and cook the sausages for about 5 mins until lightly browned on all sides.

3. Stir the garlic, chopped tomatoes and puree into the vegetables, season again, then place the sausages and rosemary on top and return to the oven to cook for a further 20 mins until the vegetables are tender.

Serve with green beans and jacket potato, potato wedges or crusty bread.

Working Mothers and Pensions

Holiday Activity Camps in Ashfield!

A new study is being carried out at The University of Nottingham which aims to find out how working mothers are preparing for their retirement. The study includes both women who will retire in future and women who have already retired. The project wants to tell the story of women’s pensions through their own voices.

Ms. Ulzhan Kazybekova, a PhD student would like to speak with two groups of women about pensions. Participation entails one hour interview at a location of their choice, and in confidence. If you are interested in taking part in this research, live in Nottingham city and are either 1. a working mother aged 30-40 years old and married/cohabiting or 2. a mother aged 60-70 years old, who is and/or was married/cohabiting and had some period of employment when you were 30-40 years old.

Please Sponsor my Volunteering in Asia My name is Reyhana England. I live in Chilwell and I am currently studying Third World Development at the University of Derby with the aim of pursuing a career in the fight against poverty.

I have always been very involved with the community and I also work with my mum at the MagiKats Maths & English tuition centres in Beeston and West Bridgford. This has given me teaching and people skills and allowed me to build relationships with many families across Nottingham. From this, I know that I am part of

a great community!

My plan is to work voluntarily in Asia for two months, supporting projects that have been set up to make a difference where it really counts. To make this possible, I have begun fundraising through a web page (see below) where people can sponsor me and learn about my project.

In Nepal I will be working in one of the many massively understaffed orphanages, teaching and taking care of the young children there. I will then move on to a community centre in China, where I will be working with children with special needs, and the final part of my voluntary work will be in Vietnam. Here, I will teach English for up to six hours a day in schools, community centres and hospitals.

Getting hitched with Clip Clop Pony Rides!

This year Debbie and the team have been busier than ever with their adorable ponies. They have two new ponies, Little Bobby a Shetland pony, and Ronnie, a beautiful grey pony with a spotty nose. Over the summer they have attended many events including Newark and Notts County show, York Racecourse Family Day and been very busy at Wheelgate Adventure Park where the ponies give rides every weekend and everyday in the school holidays.

Their pretty grey (white) ponies have attended several weddings this year, and Kevin was invited to be the special guest at a wedding at Woodborough Hall!

Boil the eggs for your preferred time, cool a little then dry. Holding each one ‘pointy end’ down, quickly draw your faces using non-toxic felt tip pens. TIP! Try it in the egg cup first to find out how much of the egg will be showing.

After breakfast, use the egg heads or create new ones, fill the shells with damp cotton wool and sprinkle cress seeds on the top. Paint cardboard tubes to look like each member of the family, or funny characters you like, and place the egg head on the top.

After a few days the eggs will have a funky hairdo which you can cut off and eat, leaving them with a ‘Number 1’!! Or use damp compost and sow grass seeds for a ‘punk’ effect or tie into bunches with thin ribbon.

Egg Hunt around the house on Easter Sunday morning is a

big favourite. The clues can be cryptic, funny, in rhyme or in pictures, whichever is right for your children, just don’t make them too hard.

Children love to work it out for themselves before charging off, which let’s face it is the best bit for them! Hide the eggs in a decorated box, or wrap them in gold or shiny paper with ribbons, fluffy chicks, flowers, anything that makes them look fabulous and special! It all adds to the fun.

MOST parents would agree on the qualities they would like at the heart of their children’s education: small class sizes, individual attention, excellent teaching in a nurturing environment – in short, the very best for their children.

It is, however, more attainable than many believe.

St Peter & St Paul Independent School in Chesterfield welcomes primary-age children not only from the town but from Bakewell, Matlock and further afield as parents opt for its combination of exceptional education and value for money.

“Independent education isn’t as expensive as people think,” explains headmaster Andrew Lamb. “A place in our reception class can cost less than a similar place in a nursery. We often say to parents that if they have a child in full-care nursery, they can afford a place in independent education.”

It is a tempting proposition, with small teaching groups – the school doesn’t use the term “class sizes” – guaranteeing pupils all the attention they need.

“It would be unusual to have a teaching group of more than 15 children,” says Mr Lamb.

“The staff ratio in our reception class is one to five, which is a massive amount of attention compared to primary schools.”

Results speak for themselves. St Peter & St Paul is the highest ranked independent school across Derbyshire and South Yorkshire in the Sunday Times Parent Power Best 100 Prep Schools List for its Key Stage 2 results.

Meanwhile, pupils’ work displayed around the school shows a remarkably high standard.

“All pupils have their work on display – we don’t just pick the best,” says Mr Lamb. “If children are happy and secure, they’ll learn.

“We achieve what needs to be achieved. While academics are massively important, I believe that preparing children for life is equally vital. So there is competition in the school because life is a competition. Music and drama are also very important.”

Another key factor is continuity. “We have all our own staff and our own transport,” says Mr Lamb. “Our children always deal with people they know. We don’t use supply staff – we cover from within.”

The school offers excellent facilities – from science lab to design technology workshop to gym – but, insists Mr Lamb, the most important room is the dining room where fresh, locally-sourced food is served and the art of conversation encouraged.

“If you get the discipline right here, you get it right everywhere,” he stresses. “We have no lunchtime supervisors. We have ‘family dining’ with a member of teaching staff sitting with children at each table. Food is brought to them and there are no televisions to distract them!”

He adds: “One thing I regularly say to parents is that they are paying for what they can’t get elsewhere. We are offering what every parent wants for their child. It’s an investment for life.”
