The objectives of the group is to support local families and the wider community with activities and projects that reduce social isolation, increase self esteem & help to promote community spirit.

About Us: The Clifton Community & Family Support Group began as a voluntary group founded on facebook by Karen Humble in December 2012. The aim of the group was to support families who were in short term need of a helping hand. Since it began CCFSG has helped families with food, clothing, household items & toys. We’ve helped victims of fire, flood & burglary and are expanding our help every day to reach more families who need the support. We have also supported local events such as Macmillan coffee mornings, toddler group open days and School Fayres.

In April of 2013 CCFSG launched it’s facebook auction group where residents of Clifton donate their unwanted items so CCFSG can auction them to raise much needed funds to continue the work within the community.

In November CCFSG turned over it’s auction page for a month to help a local resident in her bid to raise £5,000 for pancreatic cancer in memory of her late husband. In conjunction with the children who take part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme we raised over £700 towards her goal.

In December 2013 CCFSG formed it’s first committee appointing a chair, treasurer, secretary and 2 trustees. With a written constitution we became a non profit public charity. Currently CCFSG has 5 committee members, 5 volunteers who sort, photograph and list auction items and 4 volunteer drivers who collect donations when needed.

We are a non profit small charity comprised of local residents from all walks of life.

We do not judge anyone’s need for support and all information obtained during our work is confidential. We are just local residents giving back to our community and together we can make a difference.

Family Support & Health Realio, trulio great poems for children March sees the launch of an exciting new children’s range of mini-anthologies from Nottingham’s Candlestick Press.

With four new titles - Five Creepy Crawly Poems, Five Poems about Teachers, Five Nonsense Poems and The Tale of Custard the Dragon - there are some irresistible poems for children who like slugs and spiders (and fleas...and flies) or who want some insight into the strange goings-on among their teachers...or who just love silliness, plain and simple.

Ingredients 1 red onion, cut into 16 wedges 2 courgettes, in bite-sized pieces 1 red pepper, in bite-sized pieces 1 yellow pepper, in bite-sized pieces 3 tbsp olive oil 8 large pork sausages 2 garlic cloves, crushed 400g can chopped tomatoes 2 tbsp tomato puree Sprigs of rosemary

Directions 1. Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Place the onion, courgettes and peppers in a baking dish, large enough to fit them in a single layer.

Drizzle over 2 tbsp of olive oil and season. Cook in the oven for 20 mins 2. Meanwhile, heat the remaining olive oil in a frying pan and cook the sausages for about 5 mins until lightly browned on all sides.

3. Stir the garlic, chopped tomatoes and puree into the vegetables, season again, then place the sausages and rosemary on top and return to the oven to cook for a further 20 mins until the vegetables are tender.

Serve with green beans and jacket potato, potato wedges or crusty bread.

Working Mothers and Pensions A new study is being carried out at The University of Nottingham which aims to find out how working mothers are preparing for their retirement. The study includes both women who will retire in future and women who have already retired. The project wants to tell the story of women’s pensions through their own voices.

Ms. Ulzhan Kazybekova, a PhD student would like to speak with two groups of women about pensions. Participation entails one hour interview at a location of their choice, and in confidence. If you are interested in taking part in this research, live in Nottingham city and are either 1. a working mother aged 30-40 years old and married/cohabiting or 2. a mother aged 60-70 years old, who is and/or was married/cohabiting and had some period of employment when you were 30-40 years old.

I have always been very involved with the community and I also work with my mum at the MagiKats Maths & English tuition centres in Beeston and West Bridgford. This has given me teaching and people skills and allowed me to build relationships with many families across Nottingham. From this, I know that I am part of

a great community!

My plan is to work voluntarily in Asia for two months, supporting projects that have been set up to make a difference where it really counts. To make this possible, I have begun fundraising through a web page (see below) where people can sponsor me and learn about my project.

In Nepal I will be working in one of the many massively understaffed orphanages, teaching and taking care of the young children there. I will then move on to a community centre in China, where I will be working with children with special needs, and the final part of my voluntary work will be in Vietnam. Here, I will teach English for up to six hours a day in schools, community centres and hospitals.

Celebrating 30 years of recycled creativity!

For 30 years Rushcliffe Play Forum has been providing the communities in Rushcliffe with recycled materials they have diverted from landfill. We have worked in partnership with local businesses to provide a wide range of recycled materials including fabric, paper, card, tub, cones tubes, books, containers piping, ribbon, neoprene, bottles and promotional materials - just to name a few of the items that are available in our Scrapstore.

We would like to share our birthday celebrations by inviting you to access our services for as little as £30 until the end of May. Membership is open to all community groups, out of school clubs, schools, nurseries, pre-schools, childminders and carers.

Family membership is available from £15 for 4 baskets of scrap materials.

Families with disabled children have free membership thanks to the Break in Partnership funding.

We will to be organising some great playdays this year to continue our Birthday celebrations and we hope you will all join in.

A Wildlife Garden for Abacus Pre-School!

Abacus Pre-school is located at the Sports Club on Regatta Way, between Lady Bay and Gamston and offers flexible, affordable childcare at just £3.30 per hour. They have a large indoor space and a secure outdoor play area with views across the sports ground and countryside.

They are currently in the process of expanding their outdoor provision with a wildlife garden. Work is due to start later this term and staff hope the project will be completed by the summer.

Plans for the garden include sensory plants and herbs, a water feature, mini-beast habitats and a hedgehog house.

Since opening our doors in 1981, we have continued the belief that every child matters, having small class sizes to encourage and nurture; we teach music, sport and drama as well as the mainstream curriculum subjects to ensure a wide range of experiences.

Building on recent successes, the children and staff of Salterford House are once again getting involved with the many extra-curricular activities offered throughout the school.

The netball team was voted as school team of the year by Gedling Sports last year and the current team is preparing for more success with a string of tournaments planned all over the country.

School visits are also on the cards for this term with trips planned to Patchings Art Centre by all year groups, Year 2 are visiting the Making it Centre in Mansfield and 26 older children are preparing for a week in Normandy where all lessons and activities are in French. French is taught from Year 2 as part of the curriculum and so the children are well prepared.

Earlier this term the Year 6 class sat examinations. It was an exciting and stressful time, but the children were well supported with a built in programme of revision and exam technique classes running after school since September.

As a result six children have gained places at the two High Schools, one at Trent College, Ratcliffe College and Worksop. One girl also received a Drama Scholarship to Queen Margaret’s in York.

All the extra work that goes on outside the classroom has allowed the children to develop their individual skills and talents and to ensure high self esteem when tackling academic work. This has resulted in the school achieving a place in the top 100 Independent Prep Schools in the country which was recently published in the Sunday Times, something of which the staff and pupils are very proud.

Family & Children’s Activities New Youth Theatre is extremely pleased to announce that their next Junior production will be “Doctor Dolittle Jnr”. New Youth Theatre is delighted to be one of the first groups in the local area to stage this production. Rehearsals will begin in April 2014 and show will be staged at the Bonington Theatre in Arnold from the 28th June – 5th July 2014.

The classic tale of kindness to animals and animal kindnesses trots, crawls and flies onto the stage in DOCTOR DOLITTLE JR. All of the characters we’ve come to love through the stories of Hugh Lofting and the magical movie musical are given new life in the stage version.

The musical tells the classic tale of a wacky but kind Doctor who is taught to talk to animals by his pet parrot. The show takes the audience on a journey from the small English village of Puddleby-in-the-Marsh to the far corners of the world. Doctor Dolittle is wrongly accused of murder and, once pronounced innocent, continues with his search for the Great Pink Sea Snail—the oldest and wisest of the creatures on earth.

The New Youth Theatre concept is simple. Children between the ages of 3-12 years are taught how to develop and improve their performing arts skills whilst rehearsing for a fully staged musical each term. To join the energetic cast in this and future productions call:
