As we reach the year's end, it's time to reflect on progress and look forward to a new year together.
This year saw key milestones, such as the 50th anniversary of Fairfield City Family Day Care and the Whitlam Library building, and the 75th anniversary of our library services. These institutions have served generations of families.
We delivered important upgradesProut Park and Nelson Park playgrounds and the world class redevelopment of Endeavour Sports Park. Planning for a new Community and Events Centre at Fairfield Showground is also well underway.
Our commitment to maintaining and improving local roads, footpaths, playgrounds, and more continues.
It’s also the season for celebration. Christmas is a very special time in our City.
Thank you to all who donated items to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal at our libraries and Woolworths drop off locations. I'm sure the items will help bring cheer to some of our most vulnerable families.
The Light Up Christmas Competition showcased some amazingly lit and decorated homes - congratulations to our winners who each won a Christmas hamper.
A large crowd joined us for the Lighting of the Christmas Tree in Fairfield City Centre last week to enjoy carols and the lighting of the tallest tree in the City. It's always a popular event.

Illuminate NYE returns to Fairfield Showground on Wednesday 31 December to see the year out with a bang, with family entertainment, free rides, and fireworks. Tickets are $5. For tickets and information visit www.discoverfairfield.com.au/illuminate.
We are again offering an extra recycling bin collection for Christmas wrapping paper and boxes. Just put both your yellow and red bins out together on your usual red bin collection day between 22 December and 2 January.
Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas and New Year - I look forward to what 2026 brings for our City.

One of our top priorities is making sure local families have every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, stay active and build healthy habits together close to home.
That’s why we're investing in new, high-quality play spaces across Fairfield City, including the recently opened Prout Park playground in Mount Pritchard.
The significantly upgraded and bigger playground at Prout Park was opened in October.
The new $680,000 playground, proudly joint funded by Council and the NSW Government, will provide families with

opportunities for adventurous and imaginative play and will appeal to all ages and abilities.
The new playground includes:
• A dinkie bike track
• 25-metre flying fox
• An embankment slide and climber ropes
• Toddler tiny town and musical play
• Slides and spinners
• Shelters, shaded tree cover, perimeter fencing and picnic seating.

A new playground at Nelson Park, Fairfield is open and ready for play.
Families can enjoy the $1.17 million playground, which features modern inclusive play equipment.
The new playground has:
• A 25-metre flying fox
• Play zones where little imaginations can run wild
• Fitness hubs
• Shaded picnic areas and more!
The project was proudly joint-funded by Council and the NSW Government.

Exciting plans are underway for a new destination playground at Brenan Park, which will see the popular sports field provide endless opportunities for adventurous play and imaginative exploration.
The playground, funded by the NSW Government Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program and Council, will appeal to all ages and abilities featuring a climbing tower, water play, trampolines, spinners, and more. Accessibility will be a key focus, with plans to include inclusive play equipment, ensuring every child can enjoy the space.

Detailed design continues for the new Fairfield Showground Community and Events Centre, funded by a $28 million contribution from the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program in partnership with Fairfield City Council.
The state-of-the-art facility is set to become a hub for locals and visitors, providing a versatile space for exhibitions, performances, community and sporting events, cultural activities, and social gatherings.
Features include a range of modern amenities, including an exhibition hall and large stage, multipurpose indoor sport courts, large foyer, and an openair courtyard and covered forecourt for smaller events.
Once completed, the new development will provide a much-needed space for connection, celebration, performance and creativity in Fairfield City. Construction is anticipated to commence in 2027.

Sydney’s newest nightlife destinations, Canley Vale and Canley Heights, were celebrated with a bang at The Canleys Special Entertainment Precincts launch in November. Crowds flocked to celebrate the late vibes and big bites on offer.
