From your MAYOR Frank Carbone

As we head into the final months of the year, there is still so much to look forward to across our City, especially with some incredible milestones in our City’s history coming up.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Fairfield City Family Day Care, a trusted service that has supported generations of local families since 1975.

We’re also proud to celebrate 50 years of Whitlam Library Cabramatta and 75 years of library services in our City. To mark the occasion, Whitlam Library will host a series of events celebrating the library's rich past. See page 10 for more details on how you can get involved.

Next month, the Special Entertainment Precinct trial in Canley Vale and Canley Heights will kick off with the ultimate

street party and everyone’s invited! This initiative will support local businesses and boost our night-time economy by allowing extended trading, creating a vibrant, safe and active nightlife for our community. You can join in on all the fun – see page 8 for details.

Aquatopia Water Park has officially reopened for the 2025-26 season! Bookings are now open at www. fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/Aquatopia. Last year we welcomed nearly 100,000 visitors and we’re excited to see families return to enjoy the slides, Wave Pool, and splash zones.

With Christmas not far away, we’re inviting local children to get creative in the Design the Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition! Entries are now open. See our website for the entry form.

The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal also returns next month. It’s a chance for us all to support families facing hardship, so every donation can help bring hope and joy.

Also, nominations for the Australia Day Community Awards are now open. If you know someone who makes a difference in our local area, whether through sports achievements, community leadership or volunteering, you can recognise their efforts with a nomination. Visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw. gov.au/australiadayawards to nominate.

From petition to progress: Fairfield Hospital’s $550m win

In 2021, Council launched a public petition backed by over 10,000 signatures, sending a strong message to the NSW Government that our community deserves high-quality, accessible healthcare closer to home.

This united community voice helped secure a $550 million commitment from the NSW Government to redevelop Fairfield Hospital.

Planning is now underway, with the draft Master Plan outlining a modern, integrated health precinct. Upgrades will include enhanced emergency and intensive care units, an MRI machine, and new diagnostic services.

Council will continue to advocate to ensure these commitments are delivered in full.

Based on feedback from the community we see several key concerns.

These included the urgent need for:

• A better-equipped emergency department to ensure residents receive the best care in their time of need.

• An MRI machine at a minimum, to reduce the burden of travelling long distances for specialised diagnostics.

• Access to more specialists

• Improved, affordable parking options

Council remains committed to ensuring the redevelopment meets the needs of our diverse and growing population, now and into the future.

MAJOR PROJECTS UPDATE

Endeavour Sports Park upgrade nearing completion

Council is on the cusp of unveiling one of our most ambitious recreational transformations – Endeavour Sports Park, a grassroots sport and community precinct set to redefine local play, training, and fitness. Backed by a $16 million investment from the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program, the upgrade is now entering its final stages, with completion expected this month, weather permitting.

The centrepiece of the upgrade is the installation of two FIFA-accredited synthetic fields, designed to match the specifications of Melbourne’s Home of the Matildas and the Victorian State Football Centre. The fields feature an

integrated cooling system, including hirer-activated water cannons that spray jets of water to cool the turf during hot weather. The water is then recycled to irrigate adjacent grass fields.

Beyond the fields, the park now boasts 17 multipurpose courts catering to basketball, netball, futsal, volleyball, and pickleball. Two full-size futsal courts – one covered – are already open for bookings every day of the week. Together with nearby facilities like the newly opened Avenel fitness park and tennis courts, Endeavour Sports Park is poised to become a premier destination for local clubs, schools, and community groups.

Brenan Park upgrade

Exciting plans are progressing for a new destination playground at Brenan Park, transforming the popular Smithfield sportsfield into a vibrant hub for adventurous play and imaginative exploration.

The playground, made possible by a $6 million NSW Government Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant, will cater to children of all ages and abilities, featuring standout elements such as a climbing tower, water play, trampolines, spinners, and more.

We’re now just weeks away from finalising the design, including the main play item – an accessible play tower offering a variety of play experiences for children of all abilities.

The design also includes shaded tree cover, picnic seating, and generous green space, creating a welcoming and relaxing environment for families and visitors.

Construction is expected to commence in March 2026.

Prout

Park playground

Construction is almost finished on a new playground at Prout Park, Mt Pritchard. Families will soon be able to enjoy the $656,000 playground, which will feature modern inclusive play equipment and is due for completion next month.

The new playground will include:

• Embankment slide and climber ropes

• Toddler tiny town and musical play

• Shelters and seating

• Dinkie bike track

• Flying fox and more!

The project is proudly joint-funded by Council and the NSW Government.

Nelson Park playground

Construction is almost finished on a new playground at Nelson Park, Fairfield.

Families will soon be able to enjoy the $870,000 playground, which will feature modern inclusive play equipment due for completion next month.

The new playground will include:

• a 25-metre flying fox

• Play zones where little imaginations can run wild

• Fitness hubs

• Shaded picnic areas and more!

The project is proudly joint-funded by Council and the NSW Government.

Vale Andy Snook

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Andy Snook, a cherished member of our community whose compassion and dedication to animals made a lasting impact.

A Mt Pritchard resident since 1982, Andy was known for walking the streets with his microchip scanner reuniting lost pets with their owners and educating locals on responsible pet care. His quiet heroism earned him widespread admiration.

In recognition of his extraordinary service, Andy was awarded Fairfield City Citizen of the Year at the Australia Day Community Awards in 2020, a fitting honour for someone who gave so much of himself to others. Two years earlier, Council also commemorated his work with a plaque at the opening of Prout Park’s off-leash dog area.

Andy’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, both people and pets. Our thoughts are with Andy’s loved ones.
