Description
Do you want a larger variety of native animal species visiting your garden? This workshop will look at helping you decide what you are trying to attract to your garden and then developing a plant list that will suit the soil and location of your garden. Even a garden of pot plants on a balcony still provides habitat for insects and animals.
Join us on a walk and talk as we highlight the variety of birdlife that abounds. Please wear comfortable shoes, sun smart clothing and bring water and binoculars. Please note that this walk is on uneven ground. Meeting at the end of Cawarra Park, Fairfield. Brunch will be provided.
Follow a local kayaker’s journey through Fairfield City’s urban creeks to the Georges River. Along the way, the film will explore the impacts of pollution and stormwater, celebrate local restoration efforts and share diverse community stories.
Join us on a citizen science project: a guided adventure through Prout Park. We will investigate the mini-beasts within the park and learn how to record the information in Australia’s fauna data bases.
Come and listen to a talk on frogs in the local area and learn how frogs are the indicators of the health of the environment. The evening will conclude with a stroll to see what frogs we have in Fairfield City We will be meeting at the end of Bowden Street, Cabramatta.
Learn about the features of the natural biodiversity along Orphan School Creek looking at the plant communities as well as the past management practices around creek lines of Fairfield City. The walk will start at the end of Coonawarra Street.
Learn about the features of the natural biodiversity along Edensor Creek, the plant community as well as the past management practices around creek lines of Fairfield City. Meet at Angle Vale Road, Edensor Park.
Here is a chance to find out about the creatures that can be found in the Fairfield City area. This workshop is your opportunity to get up close and personal with these animals.
Fairfield City has 17 different plant communities and 4 plant species that have been identified as critically endangered under both state and federal legislation. Daniel Clark, a noted botanist, will take a bus tour around the Fairfield Local Government area to highlight these species and plant communities. We will also look at what we as residents of Fairfield City can do to promote their resilience. Lunch will be provided.
Join us on a walk and talk as we highlight the variety of birdlife in our City. Please wear comfortable shoes, sun smart clothing and bring water and binoculars. Brunch will be provided. We will meet at Roberts Avenue, Mount Prichard
Have you ever wondered what creatures come out at night? Come for a night walk along one of Fairfield City’s creeks and use your senses to explore what Fairfield City has to offer. You will need to wear warm clothes, mosquito repellent and bring a spotlight or torch.
Come and enjoy a fun activity with your kids. We will be looking at all the different life that is found in Orphan School Creek and compare this to a healthy environment using the community nursery pond.
Do you have a fear of gardening? Or do you want to learn to grow native plants? This workshop is designed to encourage garden novices to come and enjoy an experience of learning how to propagate seedlings and how to keep them alive.
Whitlam Library Did you know our gardens are the greatest source of environmental weeds? Learn what plants in your garden can spread to our precious natural areas, how they spread and how we can prevent this from happening. Look at alternative plants that serve the same function as those classified as environmental weeds.

The Fairfield Indigenous Flora Park Group was the pioneer environmental volunteer group in Fairfield City, established in 1991. The group are at a stage where native regeneration is greater than weed generation. They need your help to maintain this area and continue the native regeneration. Tasks include hand weeding, track maintenance, seed collecting and monitoring.

FOOD ORGANICS & GARDEN ORGANICS FOGO The FOGO process
In early 2024, Fairfield City Council introduced the green FOGO (Food Organics & Garden Organics) bin to residents to tackle the issue of organic waste entering landfills.
Since its launch, food and garden waste has been diverted to a composting facility, where it breaks down into high-quality compost.
Together, we’re building a greener, more sustainable future!
AT THE COMPOSTING FACUILTY
The composting facility creates the right conditions for organic waste to break down. Regularly tilling the waste and maintaining a dark, humid space, allows microorganisms to decompose the organic waste through aerobic decomposition. The process can take 6-8 weeks to complete for all the organic matter to turn into quality compost.
DID YOU KNOW...
Only AS 4736 bags are allowed in the FOGO bin. No plastic bags!
AS 4736 bags are made from corn starch which breaks down at composting facilities into organic matter improving the compost quality.
