TEAK-FREE FOR SUSTAINABILITY
Sunreef Yachts, one of the world's leading designers and manufacturers of luxury multihulls and superyachts, has announced an eco-driven move away from traditional teak decking.
Seeking a more sustainable future in yacht building, the company’s Chief Technical Officer and Co-Founder, Nicolas Lapp, explained: “As a shipyard, we’ve reached a point where continuing with teak no longer aligns with our values or vision. We’ve decided to move forward with more sustainable, yet still natural, alternatives. Our goal is to provide yacht owners with materials that look and feel just as luxurious, while significantly reducing the environmental toll. It’s a direction we believe the entire industry should begin to take seriously.”
He added that, following extensive research and development work, Sunreef selected two wood-based and one non-wood solution that now form part of its portfolio. And these options not only match the visual appeal of teak but, in some cases, surpass it in performance. For example, one thermally
modified wood reduces surface heat by 16% and offers over 25% better thermal insulation. The high-quality alternatives meet both aesthetic and environmental standards, as well as being ‘a game-changer’ in terms of maintenance. And feedback from both sailing and motor yacht owners has been positive. For some models, such as the high-performance hybrid catamaran, the ULTIMA 55, aesthetics and weight were key priorities, so Nicolas explained that a premium synthetic solution had been achieved, which still addresses the sustainability issue.

It is the most natural place for the motoring world to converge in November,” says James BrooksWard, Chairman, Royal Bahrain Concours.
Concours History
Concours d'Elegance, a French term meaning ‘competition of elegance’, dates back to 17thcentury France when aristocrats would parade their horse-drawn carriages in the parks of Paris. Over the years, carriages gave way to automobiles and the modern concours was born, with exclusive and often vintage vehicles being judged on appearance and authenticity among other attributes.
Headquartered in London, Thorough Events was created in 2012, to organise a Concours to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne. Launched at Windsor Castle, the event was awarded the Best Motoring Event at the
International Historic Motoring Awards. In subsequent years, the Concours has taken place at St. James’s Palace, Hampton Court Palace and The Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
At its heart there is an ethos of placing the leading car owners in amazing locations and developing strong bonds with partners to produce world-leading events, including the Concours of Elegance Germany which is presented by premium watchmaker A. Lange & Söhne.
A New Chapter for Bahrain
The inaugural Concours underscores Bahrain’s growing reputation as a hub of culture, luxury and international distinction. Already home to the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix and a rich tapestry of cultural and heritage landmarks, the Kingdom is increasingly recognised as a destination where tradition meets modernity. Visitors will discover a vibrant culinary scene, luxury resorts and unique Arabian hospitality – elements that elevate Bahrain beyond the event itself into a complete luxury travel experience.

A VERY SPECIAL SUPERYACHT
With a long list of superlatives, Royal Huisman’s Special One certainly lives up to her name. Hadag takes an in-depth look at this 52-metre sportfisherman.
The world’s largest true sportfisherman, which showcases the first yacht installation of a commercial grade 3D fish finder, Special One powers out to fishing grounds at 30+ knots.
The vessel boasts five staterooms for the owner’s party, including two stretching full beam, and the interior features stunning walnut joinery, exotic stonework and bespoke furnishings alongside a unique, threeperson pneumatic glass-enclosed elevator.
Designed for multi-generational living, Special One has indoor social spaces on three decks, including formal dining, and exterior living spaces on six.
The owner’s brief was for the ultimate luxury sportfishing yacht. Giving up nothing in terms of fishability or the speed at which he could access fishing grounds, he wanted to be able to accommodate the entire family on long expeditions, offering them a superyacht environment.
The answer was a sportfisherman of a scale never created before using the most radical naval architecture ever with a shape that is optimised to reduce resistance at both cruising speed and top end.
With the owner describing his style as ‘understated’, the contemporary interior has a clean, somewhat masculine style centred on family comfort. It is a calming environment with contrasting materials to add interest rather than fussy decoration.
The open plan main salon sets the tone for the yacht’s refreshing, relaxed and uncluttered look. The result is an inviting space with walnut wood veneers, white furnishings and simple window treatments, Italian marble and warm indirect lighting.
For consistency, the joinery veneer was mostly sliced from a single walnut tree with an 85cm diameter. It's paired with stained oak cupboards and ash flooring.
Significant amounts of leather, both on walls and furniture frames, soften the interior look as well as dampen sound. In some areas, the custom furniture frames serve subtly as hand holds. Cabins are carpeted but the primary social spaces feature ash floors which are patterned for interest. The wooden oval floor in the formal dining area, for example, is a unique parquet containing 237 pieces of ash and wenge inlays.
Nothing but the best sound system would suffice and in total there are 150+ speakers aboard. Designed by Focal Naim, the system surrounds occupants with a rich, blanket of sound.
A focal point of the main salon is a glass cylinder that encases a three-person vacuum elevator linking the main deck, upper and bridge decks. A floating spiral staircase in dark and light wood wraps around the elevator for more conventional travel between interior decks.
The salon’s colour scheme is largely neutral with off-white sofas and armchairs in a contemporary style, arranged as two L-shaped seating areas. The décor is highlighted by teal accents and the aforementioned dark walnut cabinetry. White painted window mullions
have decorative inlays of oak strips while the overhead is a mix of white leather and glosspainted strips for interest. Ambient lighting is built into the toe kicks of the walls as well as the custom furniture. This multi-use room has an oval dining table forward with seating for eight under a modern, low-profile chandelier. While large windows port and starboard invite looking out, the aft glass bulkhead invites guests outward onto the mezzanine deck. While all large sportfishing yachts have a mezzanine deck with seating overlooking the cockpit where guests can safely watch the unfolding theatre of the sea, that aboard Special One is like no other. Comfy, shaded seating areas offer the option of looking aft or ahead toward the main al fresco dining area. Under cover of the overhanging upper deck and sheltered additionally by louvres port and starboard, this ambitious and inviting mezzanine flows from the main salon, past the al fresco dining area, to a big terrace where curved, plush sofas allow guests to observe fishing action or simply watch the miles roll away. Backlit pillars echo the elegance of the interior, as does the show-stopping, bespoke, hand-blown glass chandelier over the dining table. A passarelle can roll out from under the mezzanine directly to the dock for comfort in disembarking. Twin curved stairways link the mezzanine to the large cockpit below. To accomplish the yacht’s primary purpose, this fishing cockpit offers tuna tubes, floodlights and saltwater ice chip machines to preserve the catch in a pair of fish boxes below the cockpit. Outside, the fish fighting chair is a bespoke work of art that can be raised or lowered per the angler’s wishes.
The owner’s suite forward on the main deck is reached by a private sloping corridor that spares its occupant from negotiating steps. It has panoramic windows for thrilling views across the bow. Rare, book-matched Panda marble wraps the bathroom, which features heated floors. Bespoke artwork and a circular panel of twinkling LED lights above the bed add personalisation. A desk, settee and cupboards tuck under the forward windows, creating a grand but uncluttered space.
Guest cabins – a double, two twins and the forward VIP – branch off a long corridor on the lower deck in typical sportfisherman style. Because balance and proper trim were essential for speed, crew quarters are divided with two forward of the engine room, adjacent to the crew mess and a spacious galley, and three aft of the engine room.
While the main salon is all about relaxation and dining, the sky lounge on the deck above is the nucleus of entertainment. A backlit bar with three fixed stools sets the scene. A bespoke blue glass chandelier is matched with a glassware display cabinet forward that spotlights a bronze art piece.
One deck higher still, in the open wheelhouse, the state-of-the-art bridge with its twin helm seats adjoins a second guest lounge of sumptuous quality. A pair of raised sofas aft in the wheelhouse, gives the owner a private, cosy corner with a clear view of the sea and keeps him close to the captain when underway. Aft of the bridge is sunny, open deck seating.
Special One’s open flying bridge one deck above gives the captain an unprecedented view, while the top tier observation deck is a unique space featuring bench seating to watch the action 14 metres below. Adventurous guests are offered the option of seat belts when the action heats up or seas increase.
Forward, the exceptionally long foredeck allowed the designers to create a unique lifestyle space for the family with a cinema under the stars. The roof of the tender garage opens to reveal a large exterior cinema screen.
At night, Special One fairly glows, courtesy of a custom exterior lighting system powered by lasers and jointly developed by Royal Huisman and Fibr8.com.
The vessel is driven by MAN’s most powerful high-speed marine engines to date, a pair of V20s, fitted alongside state-of-the-art, fiveblade propellers. At full power, the tips of these blades are turning at 181km/h allowing Special One to accelerate from 0 to 30 knots in 46 seconds.
The vessel is built to meet Gulf specs taking into account our extreme air and water temperatures. And, after launching at last year’s Monaco Yacht Show, the owner says: “The admiration from the docks that we receive everywhere is quite unique, underlining that Special One is already an icon. I look forward to many more experiences aboard with my family, friends and those who we meet along the way. She truly is a special one.”

A HISTORIC SHIP RESTORED
TO GLORY
Nearly 94 years after her launch, Atlantide, the ‘little ship’ with a royal connection, has been fully renewed and reawakened by the artisans at Huisfit by Royal Huisman. Hadag steps aboard to take a look.
First launched in 1930, Caleta, as she was then called, is a 37m motorsailer that’s had a very eventful life before being acquired by an entrepreneur with a passion for sailing, as an accompaniment to his racing yacht.
Atlantide was designed by Alfred Mylne, who was also the naval architect of the British Royal Yacht Britannia. Sir William Burton, who was Thomas Lipton’s helmsman for his America’s Cup challenger Shamrock IV, had the yacht built at Phillip and Sons in Dartmouth, UK, to serve as a tender, and named her Caleta.
The Little Ships of Dunkirk
On May 14, 1940, the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) broadcast an announcement from the British Admiralty: it called on owners of private boats to take part in effort to evacuate embattled Allied troops from Dunkirk.
In all, a collection of approximately 850 private boats and 20 warships participated in Operation Dynamo. The term Little Ship applies to all craft answering the call.
For nine days from May 26 to June 4, they raced back and forth snatching soldiers, landing craft and whatever equipment they could from the clutches of the advancing enemy under
relentless shelling. More than 200 ships were lost at Dunkirk evacuating troops from the beaches and harbour.
Caleta was an active participant, setting out for Dunkirk on May 31, in company with the yachts Glala and Amulree. She operated under intense enemy fire and dive bomber attacks over seven days, during which time she assisted various vessels and embarked 35 troops from a disabled landing craft that she then took in tow. The tow parted twice, but still she was able to get it back to English soil. For this valiant service, she is entitled to fly the distinguished St. George’s Cross.
After the Royal Navy released Caleta, she was purchased by a Greek sailing enthusiast and refitted as the Ariane, becoming well known around the Mediterranean. In 1960 she was renamed Corisande and based out of Antibes where she appeared in the 1962 film Tender is the Night.
The Rebirth
Over the years, she changed hands several times before being snapped up by her current owner and in January 2021, this historic Little Ship of Dunkirk arrived as deck cargo from the US and entered the shipyard for repairs and interior modifications.
In November 2023, she sailed away from Huisfit after a full rebuild with 40% of her hull, deck and frames replaced, her interior fully reimagined and every onboard system, except her original Gardner diesels, fully overhauled or replaced. The Huisfit team had studied, scanned and redesigned the boat in 3D. The entire teak deckhouse was lifted off in one piece for restoration, preservation, strengthening and refinishing in a dust-free environment. Decorative teak moldings were added to embellish the bright-finished exterior. Every piece of deck hardware, including port hole covers, was removed and catalogued for restoration. While keeping the 1930s’ profile, the owners wanted to simplify the style of the interior, a task entrusted to deVosdeVries design and involving an artful antiqued finish created by an intensive 200-year-old process requiring a 14-step finish of bleaching, colouring, French polishing and distressing, all by hand.
Onboard Updates
While the owner’s stateroom and VIP aft keep to their previous footprint, the areas are barely recognisable and recall quiet luxury. Space has been optimised and bespoke pieces added such as handsome detached nightstands and built-in bookcases. Just forward of the owner’s suite is a beautiful stateroom for guests in identical style and finishes.
Below forward is a refreshed flex cabin for either Atlantide’s captain or extra guests. The galley also keeps its familiar footprint but features modern white cabinets and professional surfaces surrounding new appliances.
The entire three-story main staircase has been reconfigured in a style in keeping with the 1930s featuring a raised-panel walnut staircase surround and a wood-clad centre post with a wide-planked natural walnut finish.
The main saloon is now a more casual space focusing on plump, French-blue sofas for après regatta relaxation. A shallow coffered ceiling
style is a softer look and French-polished, straight grain walnut joinery paired with walnut burl panel insets and hand-painted overheads look perfectly at home.
One of the biggest changes is that the former indoor dining saloon overlooking the foredeck is now a comfortable media room with a welcoming overstuffed sofa and chairs upholstered in a linen-textured off-white shade. Dining has moved to the aft deck under a fixed bimini awning with removable weather curtains. An enormous custom table on centreline showcases the joiner’s skill with a diamond design and glass-like surface finish. Comfortable, padded captain’s chairs are easy to position at will or store on passages. A small, matching teak cabinet nestled between the curved steps to the upper deck and the door to the saloon facilitates meal service. The fantail is filled with large cushions and pillows for lounging. The wheelhouse is the only area of the yacht with a teak interior matching the varnished teak brightwork outside. It’s a nice homage to tradition. Ninety-five percent of the exterior bronze fittings are original and beautifully restored. With every original overhead removed, redoing the lighting plan was an easy decision and deVosdeVries design brought in the same type of ambient lighting the owners enjoy on their other vessel.
Exterior Upgrades
As much of the original exterior teak as possible, including massive cap rails, was saved, restored and pieced back in with new wood. So, too, were the winches, which are thought to be 60- to 70-years-old. All salvageable hardware was overhauled and polished, and both old and new pieces were given an aluminum-bronze chemical treatment for a smooth, satin, slightly patinaed, finish.
Although the bridge looks classic and keeps to its original footprint, the yacht has been treated to brand new systems monitoring, navigation and communications gear and exterior LED lighting. When originally launched nearly a century ago, people were still a bit skeptical of relying solely on diesel engines. Just as with every yacht her age, she was rigged to sail if necessary to extend range or get home and a brand-new rig and sails, all built to the original plan that pushed her along at up to seven knots, have been installed.
At the heart of it all: 1930 Gardner diesels which have been overhauled and are still highly efficient. Of course it’s technology, from air conditioning and insulation to stabilisers and powered winches to fibre optic cables that make the dream work for today’s discerning owners. No doubt Celata’s original owner would recognise his proud little ship and be thoroughly amazed.
“What I like is the historic quality of this boat; nothing is plastic,” says Atlantide’s current owner.
“I’m a classic boat snob. I like the old wood look; big modern boats do nothing for me.”

WHEN PRESENCE MEETS AUTOMOTIVE PRECISION
Hadag discovered a suave and spirited ride in the new Audi Q8 55 TFSI S-line, a drive that delivered
grace on the go.
It’s not every day that you get to spend time in a vehicle that oozes sophistication, power and poise, but Hadag recently got to do exactly that.
From the moment we engaged with Audi’s new flagship SUV – the new Q8 55 TFSI – we were impressed by every aspect of this suave and spirited S line stunner, enriched by a tasteful selection of optional enhancements.
BOLD BY DESIGN
Sculpted to belong on a runway, our test drive model was painted in Sakhir Gold Metallic – a shade that’s subtle at dusk and striking under the Arabian sun.
One of the first things we noticed about the Q8 was its presence. This SUV doesn’t whisper premium – it announces it. Boldly. With grace. It’s the automotive equivalent of a designer kaftan: luxe, flowy and unapologetically chic.
The Singleframe grille takes centre stage, decked out in high-gloss black as part of the Black Styling Package. Add the S line’s aggressive bumpers, sleek roof spoiler and those imposing 22-inch Audi Sport 5-V-spoke wheels and you’ve got an SUV that knows how to command attention. Whether it’s cruising down the corniche or valet-posing outside your favourite restaurant, it’s sure to turn heads.
Lighting is another theatrical flourish. The HD Matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light are functional and fabulous. Paired with digital OLED rear lights that adapt and even respond to nearby vehicles, the Q8 isn’t just aware of its surroundings; it interacts with them.
CABIN COUTURE
Sliding inside the cabin felt like entering an upmarket private lounge, only this one came with Valcona leather sport seats, intricate diamond stitching and the unmistakable S line embossing. We adored the dash, adorned in Gray Oak trim that struck a perfect balance between understated elegance and refreshingly uncluttered design.
The sense of space was immediately impressive, with generous headroom, wide, comfortable seating and a panoramic sunroof that bathed the interior in soft natural light. Audi has even included electric sunshades in the rear – a discreet yet thoughtful nod to passengers in the back, who, naturally, deserve the same VIP treatment. When day turned to night, a gentle cascade of ambient lighting took over, making the transition into evening driving feel effortlessly refined.
Our model also featured Dinamica microfibre headlining and sleek black finishes, enhancing the overall sense of quiet luxury.
TECH WITH TASTE
If you’re a fan of good tech, Audi’s MMI Navigation Plus with dual touchscreens makes every interaction feel smooth and satisfying. We managed to sync our devices in seconds with Audi Smartphone Interface, accessed navigation with zero fuss and cranked up the volume on the Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium
This SUV doesn’t whisper premium – it announces it. Boldly. With grace.
Sound System, which made our playlist sound like a private concert in a velvet-lined theatre. There’s also the Audi phone box light for wireless charging and signal boosting, keeping your phone effortlessly powered and perfectly connected, no cords or clutter in sight.
PRECISION IN MOTION
Now, let’s get to the juicy bit. The 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine delivers 340hp and 500Nm of torque with silky finesse, achieving an effortless 0-100km/h time of 5.6 seconds. That’s more than enough to overtake with elegance, join a fast-flowing highway without drama or just to feel a little smug when the light turns green.
The Quattro all-wheel drive system, paired with adaptive air suspension sport, creates a drive that is plush yet poised. Whether we were skimming across pristine highways or navigating a gravel driveway to a desert villa, the Q8 kept its composure.
We also loved the mild hybrid system. It lets the car coast with the engine off, saves fuel and restarts so smoothly, we hardly noticed – a quiet genius behind the scenes.
SMART SAFETY SYSTEMS
We all like to think we’re excellent drivers – but it’s nice to have backup. The Q8 is equipped with a full suite of safety and assistance features that act like a team of invisible copilots. From lane departure warning, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert to Audi pre sense front and rear, it watches your back (and your sides and your front) like a very stylish guardian angel. There are ISOFIX points in the rear for the little ones and power latching doors for the times you’re juggling shopping bags and a toddler. Add cruise control with speed limiter and airbags all round and you’ve got a cocoon of confidence wherever you go. There’s even an exit warning – a subtle alert to prevent you or your passengers from opening the door into oncoming traffic.
ALL THINGS CONSIDERED
The Audi Q8 55 TFSI S line is more than just a premium SUV – it’s a statement. It tells the world that you know quality, you appreciate performance and you’re not afraid to stand out (in the classiest way possible).

GOING FOR GOLD
The ever-popular RICHARD LANGE JUMPING SECONDS from A. Lange & Söhne is now available in white gold in a limited edition of just 100 pieces.
he timepiece combines technical precision with individual elegance.
Nine years after the launch of the original, it continues to establish benchmarks in rate accuracy and legibility, with its unique fusion of constant-force escapement, jumping seconds and ZERORESET mechanism.
In the latest model, the warm hue of the dial in 750 pink gold contrasts crisply with the cool radiance of the white-gold case, endowing the new edition with a distinctive personality.
The spotlight is on the smallest of the three units of time, the seconds. The largest of three time circles is allocated to the seconds while the two smaller ones, positioned below on the left and right, indicate the hours and minutes. Additionally, a triangular indication at the intersection between the hour and minute circles switches to red 10 hours before the power reserve is depleted, thus delivering a reminder to rewind the watch, which has a 42hour power reserve.
Beneath the dial of the RICHARD LANGE JUMPING SECONDS, three game-changing mechanisms interact, their respective functions perfectly complementing each other.
The constant-force escapement assures that the watch is powered with a constant force during the entire power reserve, resulting in superior rate accuracy. To supply the required energy, an impulse is generated every second. This impulse is also used for the jump of the seconds, exactly 60 times per minute.
The ZERO-RESET mechanism is equipped with a multi-disc clutch: when the crown is pulled, the seconds hand instantly jumps to the zero position, making time setting with onesecond accuracy possible.
The choreography of the trinity of mechanisms can be admired through the sapphire-crystal caseback.
The dimensions of the RICHARD LANGE JUMPING SECONDS remain unchanged. The case diameter of 39.9mm and the height of 10.6mm are a manifestation of its harmonious proportions. This timepiece is the fourth model version of the RICHARD LANGE JUMPING SECONDS, and the fourth Lange watch show-casing a pink-gold dial. It is complemented with a dark-brown leather strap and a 750 white-gold prong buckle.

INNOVATION AND ERGONOMIC DESIGN
Coinciding with the brand’s 150th anniversary, Swiss Haute Horlogerie Manufacture Audemars Piguet has revealed its latest innovation, the Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ Extra-Thin Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph RD#5.
The watch marks a new era in the history of chronographs and in the evolution of complications. Requiring five years of development, it houses the all-new Calibre 8100. Every detail has been meticulously crafted, pushing the boundaries of ergonomic design to redefine the touch-sensitivity of chronograph push-pieces.
Notably, the RD#5 features a rare instant jump minute counter alongside an hour counter and, for the first time in the Royal Oak collection, combines a flyback chronograph with a flying tourbillon.
Limited to 150 pieces, this milestone creation is crafted from titanium and precious bulk metallic glass (BMG) to offer a balance of lightness, durability and brilliance.
Introduced in 1972 and designed by Gérald Genta, the original Royal Oak earned the nickname ‘Jumbo’ for its bold proportions, considered oversized for the time. Today, it is highly sought after by collectors and embodies perfect ergonomics with its 39mm diameter and 8.1mm thickness.
Following extensive research, several innovations have been introduced. The first lies in the push-pieces flanking the crown
positioned at three o’clock which now require significantly less pressure to engage.
In addition, the RD#5 features a crown with a function selector that integrates a push-piece with a visual indicator for two positions –winding and time-setting. Finally, to preserve the finesse of the ‘Jumbo’ while accommodating its dual complication, the maker opted for sapphire crystals known as a ‘glass box’ on both the dial and caseback. While completely flat on the outside, the crystals are hollowed on the inside to create additional space for the rotation of the hands as well as for the movement and its oscillating weight.
For more than 150 years, chronographs have evolved in form and function, yet their core reset mechanism – based on the traditional hammer and heart piece – has remained largely unchanged. With Calibre 8100, presented for the first time in RD#5, Audemars Piguet has entirely reimagined the zero-resetting system, introducing an integrated flyback chronograph that is more ergonomic, intuitive and precise.
In-house engineers have developed a new, patented, mechanism that optimises energy from both the movement and the shorttravel, low-force push-pieces. This innovation is based on a rack-and-pinion mechanism, designed to replace the conventional heart piece and hammer. By storing energy in the rack, this device keeps the gear train under tension and prevents the chronograph hand from shuddering while eliminating the need for the friction spring found in contemporary chronographs – a component acting as a constant break during operation and reset alike. The result is similar energy consumption, but the energy is now stored rather than dispersed. With a 72-hour power reserve, this robust chronograph easily adapts to modern lifestyles,
including various sporting activities, without the risk of deregulating.
To enhance the slim profile of the model, AP teams opted to dress the case and integrated bracelet with innovative materials, combining the lightness of titanium with the resistance of precious BMG (Bulk Metallic Glass). Composed of over 50% palladium, Audemars Piguet’s proprietary BMG offers exceptional resistance to wear and corrosion, along with a distinctive reflective sheen.
For this limited edition, the bezel, push-pieces, crown function-selector and studs are crafted in BMG and finished with a mirror polish that reveals its brilliance. The caseback features a circular satin finish while the titanium case and bracelet links alternate between satin brushing and polished bevels to create a captivating play of light. The signature Petite Tapisserie dial in ‘Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50’ reinforces the timepiece’s aesthetic sophistication, highlighted by rhodium-toned gold hour markers and luminescent hands in 18-carat white gold. The counters at three and nine o’clock are rendered in the same blue with a snailed finish for enhanced legibility. The chronograph hands are made of titanium for added lightness.
Marking the brand’s 150th anniversary, the dial bears a special Audemars Piguet signature inspired by archival designs at the 12 o’clock position. On the caseback, ‘1 of 150 pieces’ and the 150 logo are engraved.

TIMEKEEPERS WITH THE SPIRIT OF EXPLORATION
Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin has introduced two new interpretations of the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin
The new timepieces, part of the Overseas collection, which is inspired by the spirit of exploration and openness to the world, come in pink gold with a matching pink gold dial and white gold with a burgundy lacquer dial. Each comes with a 41.5mm case and 18-carat gold bracelet as well as two additional rubber straps in different colours.
Encircling the dial of the pink gold model, a minutes track is marked in blue. The bracelet and sunburst satin-finished dial boast a chic tone-on-tone aesthetic alongside the matching pink gold moon-phase display. A textured rubber strap in blue or white can be interchanged with the gold bracelet.
The cool tone of the white gold case creates a rich contrast with the burgundy lacquer dial, which is matched by a burgundy moon-phase disc; further contrast is provided by white numerals and indexes. The two rubber straps come in a choice of burgundy or white.
The ultra-thin self-winding movement, Manufacture Calibre 1120 QP/1, incorporates a perpetual calendar and moon-phase display. A perpetual calendar is among the most challenging complications due to the complex arrangement of months of different lengths and an additional day in February every fourth year. Like a miniature mechanical computer, a perpetual calendar must automatically adjust to take these anomalies into account; it needs no manual correction until 2100 and, after that, only for the centenary years that are not leap years. Calibre 1120 QP/1 drives the perpetual calendar functions – with the day of the week, date, month and leap year on a 48-month counter –as well as the hours, minutes and moon phase display. The movement beats at a frequency of 19,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 40-hour power reserve. Comprising 276 components, including 36 jewels, it is just 4.05mm thick – a feat of miniaturisation that epitomises Vacheron Constantin's approach to watchmaking.
The transparent sapphire caseback reveals a 22-carat gold oscillating weight adorned with a compass rose that symbolises the Overseas spirit of travel and exploration. The meticulous Haute Horlogerie hand-finishing work is also revealed, including Côtes de Genève, straight-graining, chamfering and circular-graining, enhancing the play of light across the movement.

CELEBRATING LEGACY, FRIENDSHIP AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
Marking two milestone anniversaries, Ahmed Seddiqi and Gerald Charles have unveiled the Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Tiger’s Eye – a remarkable timekeeper limited to just 20 pieces.
TAhmed Seddiqi, established in 1950 and one of the leading luxury watch and jewellery retailers in the region, and Swiss independent watchmaker Gerald Charles, created the limited-edition timepiece to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Ahmed Seddiqi and a quarter century of Gerald Charles.
The horological innovation is the result of a close collaboration between Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi, CEO of Ahmed Seddiqi, and Federico Ziviani, CEO of Gerald Charles, who are united by a longstanding friendship and a shared passion for horology.
“Working with Federico and the Gerald Charles team allowed us to create something truly distinctive and is a tribute to the industry as we honour craftsmanship and champion creating unique timepieces. The 75th anniversary of Ahmed Seddiqi is a remarkable milestone in our company’s history, and this collaboration is a representation of our shared values,” said Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi.
At the heart of the watch lies a dial crafted from tiger’s eye, a rare and visually striking fibrous quartz known for its golden shimmer and captivating chatoyancy, which has been reimagined with a modern edge, reflecting the spirit of both brands.
Due to the internal fragility of tiger’s eye, cutting and finishing it requires diamondtipped tools, slow precision work and the expertise of a select few lapidary artisans. Each
dial undergoes a strict selection process, with only the most visually balanced and structurally sound pieces making it through. The result is a dial that is not only technically complex but a work of natural art; unique, luminous and alive with visual texture.
In a bold first for Gerald Charles, the dial features no indices or minute track, allowing the stone to shine. It is framed by the watchmaker’s iconic Maestro case, known for its fluid, architectural lines. This edition, debuts Gerald Charles’ firstever Colormix finish on the case, a metallic bronze brown achieved through a proprietary blend of chemical and physical treatments. This deep brown tone is echoed on the buckle and paired with a sand-toned vulcanised rubber strap, whose matte, lightly textured finish evokes the golden landscape of the UAE. Together, the dial, case and strap form a cohesive visual story, blending heritage and modernity, craftsmanship and natural beauty.
The timepiece is powered by a Swissmanufactured mechanical movement, reflecting the watchmaker’s uncompromising approach to precision. The calibre 2.0, Ref. GCA2000, is a slim 3.7mm movement composed of 189 components and featuring hour, minute and second hands along with a date display at six o’clock. Decorated with colimaçon, Côtes de Genève and perlage finishes, it balances everyday wearability with elegance.

ENDURING WATCHES FOR ENDURANCE ATHLETES
Breitling, known for its connection to adventure sports, continues its partnership with IRONMAN with the introduction of two new limited-edition models.
The timepieces celebrate the 2025 IRONMAN World Championship events taking place in Nice, France, and Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and the 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Marbella, Spain. Considered one of the toughest singleday endurance races on the planet, the IRONMAN World Championship is known for being a true test of heart, body and soul requiring years of training and both physical and mental stamina. Breitling has been the official luxury watch partner of the IRONMAN triathlon since 2021 and supports a dedicated Triathlon Squad.
Endurance Pro IRONMAN World Championship 2025 Edition – Nice, France, and Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Limited to just 500 pieces, this watch commemorates both the men’s race in Nice, on September 14, and the women’s race in KailuaKona, on October 11. The 44mm-diameter model is made from high-performance titanium – 43% lighter than stainless steel, and tough enough for any terrain. A blue IRONMAN-branded rubber strap ensures maximum comfort and durability, and the grey dial features this championship’s unique IRONMAN logo at six o’clock. This logo depicts an eagle and a turtle, which showcase the nature of Nice and Hawaii and also symbolise the inner strength and resilience necessary for IRONMAN athletes to pursue their goals.
The Endurance Pro 2025 Ironman 70.3 World Championship 2025 Edition— Marbella, Spain
Limited to 300 pieces, this Endurance Pro celebrates both the women’s and men’s races in November. The dial features turquoise with orange accents, matching the unique IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship logo at six o’clock – which uses imagery evocative of the Andalusian culture: a typical arched door and decorative tile, surrounded by nature. Complementing the dial, the watch comes with a turquoise IRONMAN-branded rubber strap, ensuring maximum comfort and durability. The 44 mm-diameter case is made of Breitlight, Breitling’s proprietary material, which is 3.3 times lighter than titanium and 5.8 times lighter than stainless steel. It is also hypoallergenic, has a warmer-than-metal touch, is thermally stable and is scratch resistant.
Performance Focussed
The Endurance Pro performs everywhere from water to land – and doubles as a robust and stylish everyday watch. Both Endurance Pro models are powered by Breitling’s caliber 82, a thermocompensated, COSC-certified SuperQuartz movement. With their 100m water resistance, solar compass, date, pulsometer scale and chronograph, they are designed for athletes pushing through the most demanding races on earth.

TRAVELLING IN STYLE
Louis Vuitton’s Pre-Fall 2025 Menswear collection, traces a wardrobe that acclimates to castoff, voyage, formal arrival, stay and every possibility in between.
Designed by Pharrell Williams, Men’s Creative Director, the pieces speak of vacationing via yacht and sports car, seeing the journey as the destination.
The collection embarks on a cross-continental cruise from Paris to Miami. Evoking the golden age of transatlantic travel by ship and the glory days of Miami Beach.
The first chapter – the transit wardrobe – salutes the tailoring and classic sartorial sportswear called for by the cruise liner dress code.
A pattern of tiny boats makes up the Monogram Regatta print. Exercised on a blue and white nylon windbreaker and chambray shorts, it serves as the season’s emblematic motif. Naval codes further reverberate in collarless sailing jackets and the stripes of shirts and knitwear. A form-fitted Jazz Age silhouette is revitalised in three-piece dandy suits expanded in volume, with the shawl collars of lounge- and eveningwear adapted in dinner jackets and peignoirs for day.
The mercurial effect of moiré is contemporised as jacquard in a coat, jacket and shirt; as denim in a suit; and as cottonlinen in a windbreaker. A sporty driving jacket is formalised in beige fine wool echoed in a double-breasted suit, while a technical jacket and mac are romanticised in elegant Alcantara. Monogram takes multifaceted forms, embossed on a leather track blouson, flocked on a cotton-denim workwear suit, and encrusted in crystal all over a burgundy jumper and a black
hoodie. Art nouveau accents grace graphics and emblems. The second chapter – the arrival wardrobe – acclimatises to the beach and pool culture distinctive to Miami in adaptations of its characteristic elements. A sage shawl-collared coat posing as a robe encrusted with a jacquard hotel back emblem is constructed in poolside French terry towelling, which reappears in a strawberry pink track top and shorts. Bowling sets in aqua and pink silk, and pyjama suits in khaki and magenta, are highlighted with Monogram Glow motifs in contrast pop pastels. Along with matching shorts, oversized striped shirts include a long silk viscose over-shirt with pyjama trousers emblazoned with a blue jacquard Monogram overpainted in red stripes.
The resort-centric motif expands in a Breton-striped blue and white polo shirt in tonal Monogram jacquard and in mixed Bengal-striped shirts with matching trousers, shorts and swim shorts. The raffia native to the beach environment transforms into a collarless natural-nuance jacket and a washed black chambray denim set with raffia detailing, while a sheer beige T-shirt is embroidered with raffia Damier squares. The theme is carried across accessories, luggage and footwear throughout the collection.

CHANEL
BLEU DE CHANEL L’EXCLUSIF
CHANEL’s newest addition to the BLEU DE CHANEL line takes the familiar blue into uncharted territory. BLEU DE CHANEL L’EXCLUSIF is presented not simply as another addition but as the most concentrated and complex interpretation yet, a fragrance designed to hold weight and density. At its centre is sandalwood sourced from Maré, an island in New Caledonia, where CHANEL manages an integrated supply chain. Only the heartwood (rich in essential oil) is selected and treated through a bespoke extraction process. The result is a sandalwood note unlike the standard creamy softness often found in perfumes, here, it is darker, more potent, with a woody trail. Alongside it, cistus labdanum introduces leathery, resinous notes that expand the fragrance into a warm, shadowed scent. www.chanel.com
DRIES VAN NOTEN PRINTED TIE
The design house goes back to classics this season for men’s accessories with solid-coloured silks featuring delicate, beautifully printed florals. This option displaying a fuchsia flame lily print on a deep charcoal background would work perfectly with a crisp white shirt for the office on over a darker shirt for evening. www.driesvannoten.com
HOSPITALITY ON A GRAND SCALE
Hadag visited The St. Regis Doha for a weekend of exceptional cuisine coupled with luxurious pampering in divine surroundings.
We checked in for a staycation at, arguably, Qatar’s finest address –The St. Regis Doha. This stunning property in West Bay Lagoon area is a mainstay among Qatar’s luxury offerings. As soon as we stepped inside, it was quickly evident we were in for one of the best experiences we’ve enjoyed in a while. We walked past a regal lobby with an incredibly striking flower display and cascading chandeliers, and checked ourselves in. It’s an easy, smooth process and barely minutes later, we were entering our home for the weekend.
The calming palette of creams and navy blues caught our eyes before anything else. The Deluxe Sea View King room is spacious, airy and luxurious. A navy leather headboard adds sophistication to the space and it’s interesting how we already felt like royalty.
And things soon got better. The butler service arrived and Yesha introduced herself. Was it too soon to feel this special? Probably not at The St. Regis. Yesha explained that we could order any beverage of our choice as well as laundry services, shoe shining and, probably the best service we’ve ever heard of at a luxury hotel, packing and unpacking. It’s even better than royalty!
The TV showcased highlights of Doha from dune bashing to information on how to get around. It’s the perfect start to a vacation for anyone visiting or, for long-time residents, just an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Doha on screen. We started our evening with dinner at Rivaaj. One of the crowning jewels of the hotel’s culinary repertoire, this Indian fine-dining restaurant is impressive from the very first glance. The space feels like a cocoon of modern elegance, with refined interiors and Indian-themed motifs everywhere. The sweeping ceiling is accented by circular lighting, casting a warm glow. Golden vertical slats create little private spaces, without feeling closed off.
We began with a few classics such as Raj Kachori, and the result was art at our table and in our mouths. Another mention-worthy starter was the Wagyu Pav – with homemade bread and meat so tender it melted like butter. What makes this dish special is the Rechad marinade, a famous Goan spice paste. Everything here felt elevated but really nostalgic, the live Bollywood music adding comfort and we got lost in some magical tunes. For mains, the Coconut Shell Baked Lobster Curry was probably one of the best curries we’ve tried –rich, creamy and packed with coastal flavours. They say you can tell how good an Indian restaurant is by just tasting its Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani. We’re pleased to report these dishes exceeded our expectations. There is no compromise on taste and each dish is masterfully presented.
Chef Satish knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s the king of flavours and that’s putting it humbly. We ended our meal with a decadent Mango Rasmalai and a Karak Crème Brûlée – and we
highly recommend both.
An epic Thursday night concluded with an unforgettable night view of Doha, as we drew the curtains and sank into the softest mattress we’ve experienced for a very long time. The crispy white linens felt like clouds and the master control panel was right by the bedside.
The next morning brought the most beautiful sunrise. Qatar’s turquoise blue waters put on a show and brilliant sunshine through the floorto-ceiling windows filled our room with light and happiness. The views are unmatched and called for a cup of coffee from the machine at the mini bar while soaking in the scene from the couch in the very spacious seating area.
As much as we’d have loved to spend the whole morning there, breakfast was waiting for us at Fauchon Paris Qatar where fuchsia pinks, cream tones and delicate leaves floating from the ceiling create a whimsical ambience. This chic Parisian café is the perfect start to the day, especially if you’re having the signature blend Green Tea with Strawberries and a special Fauchon flavour. You’ll have to try it to find out what it is. The breakfast was generous and really highlighted French excellence with delicate pastries, perfectly cooked eggs and a tasty cappuccino to wash everything down.
Next stop – Guerlain Spa for an indulgent morning treatment – the Imperial Relaxing Massage. Dizhar showed us around, then we were escorted to a luxurious room. The next hour passed by faster than we’d have liked. The therapist was an expert in detecting areas of tension and masterfully switching between light and medium pressures to relax the muscles. We weren’t ready to leave and wanted to spend some time in the Jacuzzi, but another dining affair awaited. So, we quickly checked out the perfume collection, available for purchase, before heading out.
If you’ve lived in Doha long enough, you’ll surely have heard of The Grand Brunch. During cooler times, the terrace at Vine Restaurant fully opens up for one of the city’s best afternoon dining experiences.
We sat indoors this time and sampled all the brunch favourites. The Seafood Bar piqued our interest with oysters, lobster, mussels, tiger prawns and all that good stuff. A large open display fridge proclaimed St. Regis Signature Morning Delights and we were happy to see mini sandwiches. We grabbed a few and some healthy options to go along with them – balance is everything.
We tried some pasta from the live station and a few more signature delicacies before finishing off with mini desserts from a massive sweet buffet. Post brunch, there really was only one thing to do. Enjoy Doha’s golden hours from our gorgeous room. We tried that luxury butler service and had our clothes ironed in time for a muchanticipated steak dinner.
Astor Grill has always been one of Doha’s best steakhouses but, ever since the revamp, the venue has really been uplifted to a new level. The space is so stylish, sleek and contemporary yet still reminiscent of a dark-toned diner. The pickled eggplant butter with sourdough and brioche was a really impressive way to show us what they’d planned for our evening’s dining experience. Since we were at a steakhouse, our choice of mains was clear. The Wagyu Tenderloin was 200 grams of buttery soft meat with great marbling. The Potato Millefeuille that sat alongside was an absolutely perfect carb creation. Crispy edges,
wafer-thin layers and the essence of Rosemary hidden in between every strip of perfectly cooked potato – what a treat.
Top service from our host Oscar and an incredibly indulgent chocolate dessert later, we were ready to retire for the night and hit the sack.
On our last day of relaxation, we started off with a breakfast at the all-day diner. The sweetest hostess Rahma introduced herself and took our coffee and eggs order – both of which can be customised from the breakfast menu. We preferred the breakfast buffet for everything else – it was smashing.
On the last leg of our weekend’s journey and one experience away from checking out, we headed to the lobby lounge, famous nationwide for its afternoon teas.
Sarab Lounge is a true gem with floor-to-ceiling windows, comfortable and beautifully upholstered couches and a manager who is really on top of exceptional guest experiences. The summer set is full of vivid colours and vibrant flavours. Sweet and savoury bites were beautifully placed on a
high tea set and we dug in. There’s a lot to say about everything from the Raspberry Macaron to the iced tea served alongside it, but we have to focus on the highlight – Orange Scones with clotted cream, strawberry jam and, our absolute favourite accompaniment, lemon curd. This was the true taste of summer and we couldn’t think of a better way to conclude our memorable time at this iconic property.
The St. Regis Doha isn’t a regular resort. It’s a landmark and a destination in itself. Once you check in, you’ll never want to leave. From Parisian cafés and global franchises to homegrown dining brands and even its own tea blends, there is a world of sophistication and experiences to enjoy here. A stay at this immaculate property is a step into timeless luxury, contemporary opulence and promises an experience like no other. In our view, this really is Qatar’s finest address.

STEPPING INTO THE HEART OF BARCELONA
Two days at NH Collection Barcelona Gran Hotel Calderón showed us how the right hotel can transform a quick city break into a lasting memory.
There are few cities that welcome you quite like Barcelona. The energy of its streets, the architecture at every turn and the unmistakable Mediterranean light make each arrival nothing short of a celebration. Gothic towers rise beside modernist masterpieces, quiet courtyards open onto bustling avenues, and the city unfolds with a character that makes every turn feel like a discovery. It’s the kind of place where two days become an adventure — especially when paired with the right hotel. From the first step into the NH Collection Barcelona Gran Hotel Calderón, we knew the next 48 hours were in safe hands. Located on the elegant Rambla de Catalunya — once the site of the famous Calderón Theatre — this five-star property blends tradition, design and modern luxury into an experience that lingers long after you’ve checked out.
Walking Into Something Wonderful
Entering the NH Collection Barcelona Gran Hotel Calderón feels like stepping into the very heart of the city. Its central location puts landmarks, boutiques and cafés right on your doorstep – ideal for anyone wanting to dive straight into Barcelona’s rhythm.
The building itself hints at local heritage, but what struck us most was the reception inside. Staff greeted us with warmth and ease, making check in feel less like admin and more like the beginning of something special. Our luggage was whisked away, and within minutes we were being shown to our quarters.
Soft Sheets to Smart Tech
Our lodgings were a sanctuary from the bustle of the city. It was the kind of setting that instantly makes you slow down and settle in. Clean lines, luxurious bedding and thoughtful details gave the space a sense of quiet indulgence. We especially liked the in-room Alexa system. Towels, music, dinner… all just a request away. Sadly, it battled to understand our questionable attempts at Spanish.
The hotel offers 255 accommodation options, from Superior to Premium and suites. Families can opt for connecting rooms, while those who want sweeping views should head to the upper floors. Whatever the choice, the balance of style, comfort and convenience makes it easy to unwind between city explorations. Each room also comes equipped with everything you’d expect of a five-star stay: a work desk,
“Walking into the NH Collection Barcelona Gran Hotel Calderón feels like stepping into the very heart of the city.”
flat-screen TV, Nespresso coffee machine and a well-appointed bathroom stocked with quality amenities. Large windows filled the space with natural light and in the evenings blackout curtains ensured uninterrupted rest.
Dinner, Drinks and a Dash of Decadence
Barcelona overflows with exceptional dining options, but our stay proved that one of the best tables in town was just downstairs. Restaurante Tablafina is a celebration of Spanish gastronomy, offering artisan cheeses, premium cold cuts, tapas and reimagined classics.
We dined on the terrace, with views overlooking the elegant boulevard. The setting was sophisticated yet welcoming, the service attentive but not overbearing and the décor stylish without pretence. The standout was the Wagyu beef paella – a luxurious twist on a Spanish classic that made us question every paella we’d had before. Each spoonful was rich, perfectly seasoned and paired beautifully with grapes curated by sommelier David Robledo – whose expertise had us nodding as if we’d known all along.
Breakfast the next morning retained the high standard. The buffet offered fresh fruit, pastries, hot dishes and local specialities in a bright, airy space that encouraged lingering over coffee. It was the perfect start to another beautiful day in Barcelona.
Fitness, Fresh Air and Fabulous Views
During our stay, we explored more of the hotel’s amenities, and it quickly became clear why it appeals to both leisure and business travellers. The Eleven BCN rooftop bar and terrace on the 11th floor is a must. With its 360º views of Barcelona, inventive mixed drinks and lively yet refined atmosphere, it’s one of the city’s best meeting points.
Next to it, the rooftop pool and solarium provide a refreshing escape from the lively scene below. The fitness centre is well-equipped for anyone determined to keep up a routine. Admittedly, the pool was what won us over. Business travellers are equally well catered for, with nine versatile meeting rooms, most with natural light, that can host everything from small gatherings to conferences of up to 250 people. One of the subtler but most appreciated features was the Guest Relations team. Far from a formality, they were genuinely helpful, offering insider advice, booking restaurants and suggesting local experiences we might otherwise have missed. It was a reminder that great service is often the finest luxury of all.
Leaving With More Than Luggage
Our two nights passed quickly and, before we knew it, it was time to check out. The process was as seamless as our arrival, though far less welcome. Barcelona has a way of making every trip feel incomplete – and this hotel made the desire to stay even stronger.
Stepping one final time onto Rambla de Catalunya, we carried with us not just our luggage but the certainty that we’ll return. Two days gave us a taste of everything the hotel has to offer – enough to make us eager for more. And if we’re honest, we’re still thinking about that Wagyu beef paella.

DISCOVERING PARADISE IN SEYCHELLES
Fernanda Langhammer headed to these stunning Indian Ocean islands to explore their beauty and connect with nature during a visit to Constance Ephelia and Constance Lemuria.
Exploring a new country, its architecture, cuisine and culture is something that excites me. I had never been to Seychelles before, and I was lucky enough to see it through my stays at Constance Ephelia and Constance Lemuria hotels – an experience worth sharing.
CONSTANCE
EPHELIA - Mahé
My experience of this slice of bliss on Earth started at Constance Ephelia, located on the main island of Mahé. After a drive across the island, which allowed me to take in all the beauty of the location, we reached the hotel which is in a natural park occupying 120 hectares – it's a huge resort filled with greenery, mangroves, white sand and azure waters.
Smiley Tembi, the watchman, welcomed us with enthusiasm, wishing us a pleasant stay. By the hotel entrance, a big team was waiting and made sure our check in went smoothly, conducted in the sofa area of Zee Bar, perfectly aligning with the chilled atmosphere of the resort.
The Resting Nest
Constance Ephelia is composed of 313 rooms ranging from junior and senior suites to twoand three-bedroom villas, hillside villas and a Presidential Suite – all have either garden or sea views. My Junior Suite had the spectacular ocean a few steps away and was very spacious. It had a comfortable bed full of pillows, a large sofa and a bathtub separating the room from the bathroom. Boasting all the necessary amenities, there was also plenty of space to store my belongings.
Leisure for All
The hotel's position is privileged, the natural park sits at the end of the peninsula and the property is divided into North and South, offering two main beaches and a few private gems. The beautiful and blooming mangroves create a path between the two parts. A good way to get around the property is to request one of the bikes available at the Fitness Centre. The beach in the South area, where I stayed, experienced somewhat rough weather during my stay (it depends on the time of the year), while the North beach was very calm and great for swimming. The imposing mountains surrounding the water make this place quite magical, making me feel at one with nature. But Constance Ephelia offers much more than just dreamy beaches; it provides an array of activities, with hiking being my favourite of them. A 1.6km walk in the forest to cross from South to North, a path up the mountain providing the most breathtaking views – a unique experience without leaving the hotel premises.
Constance Spa is another highlight. With 18 rooms shaped like little huts, the space is a haven of tranquillity and transports your mind to a place of calm. With a pool in the centre, yoga classes happening outdoors and privacy in
each treatment room, this part of the property is a jewel in a lush tropical scenario. I headed there for a classic massage to immerse myself in relaxation. My therapist, Ratna, understood the task and, instead of working on pressure points, she delivered a treatment that allowed me to enjoy a true state of restfulness. The wind outside, kissing the palm trees that eventually touched the natural roof of the hut, created a sound that made my mind drift away. If you like water, there are eight pools spread across the property and two boathouses offering watersports gear on each side of the resort. You can choose from pedal boats, small sailing catamarans, kayaks and snorkelling gear. However, if you prefer land sports, you'll find four tennis courts, padel and squash courts and a fully equipped gym to help you keep up your workout routine. There is even a kids' club called Coconut Tribe.
Delectable Gastronomy
On visiting a beach resort, you don't generally expect food to be a standout element. However, at Contance Hotels & Resorts, this matter is taken seriously and is offered with a wide selection of fine grapes. Constance Ephelia has seven eateries: Corossol (where the breakfast is served, but where you’ll also find a selection of international dishes), Helios (Mediterranean cuisine), Adam & Eve (with a Southeast Asian menu), Seselwa (to explore local Seychellois recipes), Cyann (for a fine-dining experience) and Zee and Kabana bars for a more relaxed atmosphere with small bites and creative drinks. Every outlet has at least one or two sommeliers helping elevate the dining experience. I had many memorable meals during my stay, but I will highlight some of my favourites. The Tom Yum soup at Adam & Eve was beautiful, not too thin, offering the perfect creaminess and coconut flavour, with prawns and shimeji mushrooms cooked to perfection. Still at the same restaurant, the cubed red snapper in a sticky, sweet and tangy sauce, with crispy edges and a soft interior, was simply divine, especially when paired with the smoked eggplant. At Seselwa, the dish that took me back home, Palm Heart Gratin, won my taste buds. Baked palm heart in bechamel sauce, topped with parmesan cheese, came bubbling and felt incredibly comforting. At Cyann, the prawn carpaccio, accompanied by sauces that represented the colours of the country's flag, was almost too pretty to eat – fine dining at its best. Each eatery has its specialised chef delivering the best of each cuisine.
CONSTANCE LEMURIA - Praslin
To get to this property on the island of Praslin, we took a small plane, and in 15 minutes we reached our new destination. Constance Lemuria is a short drive from the airport and feels a bit more elegant and cosy, giving the impression that it was built as part of nature. Our arrival was received with grandeur; a gong played while we walked towards the massive doors of the hotel, opening right after the last sound disappeared. The vision beyond the doors was stunning, the open reception, showcasing the infinity pool facing the ocean –an image that keeps replaying in my mind.
The Abode
My accommodation at Lemuria was very similar to Ephelia, a Junior Suite with sea views. But it was brighter and the furnishings a little more sophisticated. I loved that there was a window between the bathtub and the room, adding a touch of charm to the space. A clothesline above the tub was my favourite detail; many resorts forget to offer a solution to dry wet swimsuits. The double sink and spacious shower made it perfect.
Around the Property
One of the main attractions at Lemuria is its 18-hole championship golf course. I am not an expert in the sport (far from it), but we were invited to try the course with a patient instructor, Gary. He gave us some basic instruction and, in no time, we were hitting our balls with different clubs, understanding movements and lingo – a fun experience for beginners and a great setup for pros. The beach in front of my room had slightly choppy waters; however, I went for a short swim on one of the mornings and it was splendid – nature is perfect! To best enjoy a proper swim, we headed to Anse Georgette, a beach world-renowned for its soft white sand, turquoise waters and lush green surroundings. I love the water (I grew up swimming in the sea), so I stayed long hours catching waves and diving when they were too high – I felt like a kid again.
Outstanding Meals
With five restaurants and one bar, gastronomy is once again at the centre of the experience – to the delight of the foodie in me. Legend is the main restaurant, where a varied and delicious breakfast is served, offering stunning views. Located in a high area, the greenery and turquoise water bathed my eyes while a black coffee soothed my soul in the early hours of the day.
Takamaka (yes, the name of the country's famous liquor, but also the national tree), is a barefoot dining space – eating with my feet deep in the soft sand was a big highlight. The dinner was accompanied by entertainment featuring local songs played on percussion instruments, creating an atmosphere of vibrancy that made the meal one of the best of the entire trip. We tried a set menu called My Seychelles Story by Chef Jordi Villa. It was incredibly refreshing and paired very well with the climate. A coconut palm salad, served on a coconut shell, was spot on for me for its simplicity and smooth flavours.
The Nest has an incredible location on top of a small hill, offering views of the sea and beach, as well as local cuisine. The seafood curry there is a must-have!
Last but not least, Diva is all about fine dining. The décor is funky with purple chandeliers resembling jellyfish and raffia chairs that recreate turtle shells. Dinner was in the company of lovely Marie Noella, Lemuria's Executive Assistant Manager, who told us all about Constance Hotels & Resorts. She's been working with the company for 25 years, certainly a voice of experience and someone who understands the brand very well. To my surprise, the menu had my name on it, which was a caring touch that made me smile – a personalised souvenir. The entire selection was
impeccable, but the Hokkaido scallops with Kampot pepper and verjus emulsion (a creamy buttery sauce made with verjus, a non-alcoholic juice of unripe grapes) was perfection in a bite. The crunchy top of the scallop, mixed with the sweetness of the mollusc and the saltiness of the jus, made it a star dish.
Sustainability Core
Both properties take the environment where they are located very seriously. At Ephelia, Markus is the sustainability manager and at Lemuria, Joseph. We enjoyed a talk with them and discovered that Ephelia is home to seven species of mangroves and is certified as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. An important certification that promotes conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources. We walked around the property and learned about the bees making mangrove honey, spiders that create a balanced environment and even tried a germinated coconut that Markus promptly opened with the skill of a person who is wilderness-smart. In Lemuria, Joseph explained why they didn't cut the bushes near the beach to give guests an open view of the sea. The reason? The vegetation in a hatching nest for turtles. There is even a special room by the sea with visual and written explanations about the turtles, where Robert, the turtle manager, sits.
Final Thoughts
Constance's motto, True by Nature, says a lot; they not only celebrate the natural environment
where the brand has its properties, but also the nature of its people. Everyone was extremely polite without losing their own personality. We got to explore the properties in the company of many of them, sharing their stories and helping to bring the brand's vision to life. Big thanks to everyone that made this memorable experience possible.

A CULINARY FIRST FOR THE REGION
The Middle East’s first Brasero Atlántico has opened its doors in Bahrain, bringing the flavours of Argentina to Manama. Liz O’Reilly visited for a culinary taste of Buenos Aires.
SSince Brasero Atlántico opened its doors at Sheraton Bahrain Hotel, social media has been abuzz with praise. I was super excited to try it for myself and, I’ll say straight off, I was not disappointed.
Found, via a dedicated lift, on the hotel’s expansive rooftop, the place is one neat discovery after another, not the least of which is the ship-shaped bar and fully open kitchen that’s the first thing you see as you walk in.
Behind its counters, you’re met with a full team of busy, white-jacketed chefs from all corners of the Earth, under the watchful eye of Executive Chef James Martin, and a seriously impressive charcoal grill that looks like a giant fire pit burning brightly. An indication that here, meat is taken very seriously indeed.
Many of the exterior walls are glass, affording breathtaking views over the city’s glittering lights, while, on the internal walls, you’ll spot line drawn images of a sea monster –Brasero’s much-loved mascot. Certainly eyecatching and definitely a conversation point, General Manager Rodrigo Carvalho told us the restaurant’s whole ethos is built around the ocean and they wanted to honour that by creating their own sea creature.
In fact, the sea monster is so much a part of the team that it features on the plates and napkins (all in the delicate blue of the Argentinian flag) and there’s even an artist construct of a realistic, giant sea monster skeleton encased in glass on the terrace, both funky and atmospheric in the shadows of a windy evening – Jurassic Park anyone?
From industrial-style ceilings to a range of comfortable, plush seating and an extensive open cellar, it’s clear a great deal of thought has gone into the décor. And I was particularly happy to spot proper, old-school decks with a collection of vinyl behind the bar – you really can’t be too careful about your music which, on our visit, was a mix of laid-back contemporary and jazzy classics.
They say it’s all about location, location, location. But I’d argue that atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere is equally important. On this, Brasero Atlántico delivers, in spades. But, what’s a restaurant without food? And, after an extended tour, we were hungry and ready to dive into the selections suggested by Chef James and Rodrigo, all of which are served sharing style.
First to the table were Las Empanadas Al Horno – a trio of traditional pastry parcels stuffed with ossobuco, Pascualina de Spinach with Bechamel and mackerel. The meat version was divine, the flesh slow cooked for ultimate flavour and so tender it barely needed chewing, while still retaining every ounce of flavour. The pastry on the mackerel version was surprising, flakier and topped with sugar crystals, presenting an interesting contrast with the rich, slightly salty tang of the fish.
But the favourite at our table was definitely the classic Pascualina de Spinach, the pastry glistening before we cut in to reveal the centre of
rich earthy greens delectably mixed with the light, sweet hints of ricotta. The pastry was crumbly and this felt like a real taste of home cooking.
The Melon & Cecina de Leon, smoked cured beef with honeydew and cantaloupe melon, was one of the night’s shining stars (though, it had serious competition). The beef was rich and toothsome with a depth of flavour that had my dining companions fighting for the last slice of an extremely generous portion. The melon formed the perfect accompaniment but I really loved the bright green, oily pesto which added an extra dimension to the already sublime beef cuts.
Pizza Porteña is a Brasero signature, not surprising since it’s a cultural icon in Buenos Aires. The Fugazza version we were served boasted a rich, thick doughy base liberally topped with lashings of creamy mozzarella and loads of onions, an inclusion credited to Argentina’s history of immigration. Deeply comforting, this pizza is like a hug on a plate but, be warned, limit yourself if you’re planning to eat anything else on your visit, it really is a whole meal by itself.
A selection of pastas has been added since the opening and, though I was slightly hesitant after a little too much of that wonderful pizza, Rodrigo assured me ‘this is not your average spaghetti Bolognese, you simply have to try it’. With a recommendation like that, how could I refuse? He was not wrong. The Homemade Corn Cappelleti with caramelised corn and chorizo were a revelation. Hat-shaped, stuffed pasta parcels bursting with creamy, herby goodness accompanied by glowing yellow kernels of corn and tasty morsels of lightly spicy sausage. The tastes and textures were a treat in the mouth and I honestly didn’t want to share.
The Five Cheese and Truffle Ravioli was equally impressive, the al dente dough presenting the perfect foil to the creamy, cheesy interior and the rich, pungency of the fungi. This brought to mind early mornings truffle hunting in the forest as a gentle mist rises. I’m glad I took Rodrigo’s advice.
We finished our savoury selection with the Daily Catch, which is seabass, and, of course, a steak. Brasero Atlántico is determinedly not a steakhouse, that’s clear from the oceanic emphasis. But, you simply don’t visit Argentina without eating steak. It would be almost sinful! I can honestly say, the seabass was one of the best I’ve tasted, and, given my job, that’s quite a claim. Delicately sweet, its skin perfectly crispy, the flesh was just cooked enough to stave off that slightly watery texture so common in the less meaty fish. Flaky and flavoursome, it was another contender for the night’s favourite dish. And the steak, perhaps unsurprisingly, was sublime. Cooked to a uniform, perfect medium rare, the juices flowing gently, the mouthfeel was buttery and tender. The flavour spoke romantically of wide-open prairies; earthy, rich and savoury, while at the same time succulently sweet. Despite being fully replete, we were all powerless to resist and it was gone in minutes. We tried two desserts. The Vigilante, a soft, crumbling cheese panna cotta with a centre of creamed sweet potato jelly, put on quite a show. Cut open at the table, it visually resembled a boiled egg with a rich, yellow yoke, but the piquancy of the sweet potato coupled with the texture of the panna cotta soon dispelled that myth.
Meanwhile, the Chocotorta – flexi chocolate mousse with dulce de leche ice cream and cocoa dust – proved, once again, that the dessert stomach is a thing. Richly dark, sweet with a hint of the bitterness that comes from high-grade chocolate, we couldn’t get enough. From the décor to the music and from the attentive service to the amazing food, Brasero Atlántico more than lived up to the hype. It’s safe to say that whimsical sea monster has a new best friend. He’ll definitely be seeing more of me.

PERUVIAN FLAVOURS TAKE CENTRE STAGE
to discover a vibrant blend of cultural influences and refreshing flavours.
Hadag visited La Mar Doha by Gastón Acurio
Some restaurants consistently impress and even get better with every visit and La Mar Doha is one of them. Found at the InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa, this stunning beachfront spot has long established itself as a brilliant venue since its inception.
Celebrity Chef Gastón Acurio is the proud ambassador of Peruvian cuisine, and he has excelled in bringing some of his bold but familiar flavours to our doorstep. If there's one meal you have to try in this country, it has to be at La Mar.
The celebrated journey through Peru, highlighting flavours that truly resonate with our foodie souls, is a must-have experience, whether you're visiting or living here.
Chef Gastón's vision may be to bring Peruvian flavours to the world, but Executive Chef Frank Ponce brings it to life in Doha. He is a man of many accolades. With a string of coveted awards under his belt, both for his restaurant and for himself. He is no stranger to acclaim. Tonight, we’re planning to sample some new additions to the menu. Every visit brings something fresh and unique.
All these musings are making us hungry and just in time, a generous portion of Plantain Chips arrives. These are addictive with a side of Avocado Mousse and Rocoto mayo (officially, our new favourite way to eat mayonnaise).
Shortly after, three cold appetisers hit the table. The Salmon Nigiri looks elegant and classy with Anticuchera Sauce. It's melt-in-yourmouth delicious and created with such finesse. The Conchitas are more playful, sitting inside a shell. The leche de tigre is smoked and brings about incredible notes along with a sharp tang. And how can we dine in a Peruvian restaurant without a bowl of ceviche? The leche de tigre in this dish is elevated with saffron flavour. Sweet potato is usually the 'Best Supporting Actor' here, but La Mar has replaced it with torched avocado. The culinary artistry is hard to ignore – especially when it tastes so good. Add caviar and coriander on top of mixed seafood and you have a luxury dish right in front of you. We are also treated to some hot appetisers –Croquettas with Smoked Beef and sriracha mayo, with grated chorizo on top, and Squid Ink Croquettas made with a squid ink bechamel. A side of Chalaquita Salad with Rocoto mayo beautifully complements the croquettas.
We're lucky tonight – Chef Frank is in the mood to let us sample one of his New Year's menu dishes. It's Spanish octopus grilled on the Josper (a charcoal grill and oven combination) with celery root puree. Our jaws drop – what on Earth is a celery root puree and why would anyone venture into something like that? Celery has its place, and it's not under a perfectly grilled octopus. Turns out not only are we terribly wrong, but we are also incredibly pleased. The flavours of the puree really surprise us – it's light and earthy. It goes perfectly with the octopus marinated in thick honey and anticuchera. The Peruvian olives add a nice tang and the squid ink tuille adds a little crunch. Basil oil and chimichuri piquillo on top bring the celebration. We're reserving our table for New Year's at La Mar before we end this dinner.
Every week, Chef Frank whips up a special for mains. And this week's is Prawns Saltado. A unique take on the traditional Lomo Saltado, this dish is an absolute stunner. It is a mix of comfort, decadence, flavour and uniqueness. The prawns are marinated in the typical saltado seasonings: oyster sauce, vinegar and spices. But what makes this dish really stand out is the spaghetti that sits below it, tossed in a Huancaina sauce. This traditional Peruvian sauce blends cheese, aji peppers, onions, garlic and more. Switching out the rice for this is a bold move – but one that truly pays off. We're fans and since we're on the topic of bold, we're putting this dish right up there along with La Mar's famous chocolate cake as among the best in Doha.
The dessert is nothing short of a brilliant finale. A showstopping cacao bean arrives at the table. This is the dessert of all desserts. A massive bean, made with Ilanka (a north Peruvian dark chocolate), encases a medley of treats. Lucuma ice cream is the most noteworthy, sitting atop dark chocolate mousse and crunchy quinoa bits. Chef Frank knocks it open with a tiny but mighty hammer and we start digging in. Edible flowers add colour to the inside; the outside is already designed to look like a real cacao bean. It's one of those desserts that pleases all the senses. But that's not all on the sweets side. We all know and love the quintessential Peruvian Chichamorada (a drink made from purple
corn and seriously addictive), but we've never imagined this in sorbet form. It's the perfect summer treat (in fact, we're picturing these by the La Mar Beach Club poolside).
The service has been top-notch all night, with Chef Frank serving us himself on many occasions. The team behind the kitchen gets applause for putting up an unforgettable menu. There's no debate that La Mar Doha is a mainstay in Qatar's dining scene. It really doesn't matter whether you appreciate the fine art of food or not, because every second of your experience will impress. Now, let's get that New Year's reservation in.
