It can’t be October already… summer is back. With 12 out of the 14 areas visited and Western Province and Namibia still to come.
I can tell you that what we as a team of Tablers have achieved so far has been nothing short of superlative. We recently attended BMG conference and had our 3rd Executive meeting at ARTSA 2023 venue, and can tell you that Weesgerus ARTSA will be amazing, loads of fun all on one venue, bucket loads of activities for the kids and a fantastic setting.
As the calendar year draws to a close I am reminded about the great stuff done and impact we have created this year to date.
Gentlemen you make me so proud to be part of this organisation and bursting with pride that I have had the opportunity to lead this amazing organisation for the year 2022/2023.
I can't wait to see what we get up to until the end of our Table year and until then I will take this huge privilege and honour to lead this organisation and soak it all in and do my very best to adopt , adapt and improve.
You gents are simply amazing

PRETORIA 19 JUKSKEI DAY
On Saturday morning, the 13th of August, we were greeted with a slightly cool and sunny morning in Centurion. We arrived around 07:30 at the jukskei course (also the Clubhouse of Pretoria 19) to start setting up the gazebo’s and getting breakfast ready for the day’s event. As always, the tablers were ready and willing to assist wherever they were needed.
The players and guests started arriving from 09:00 for registration and breakfast. We kicked off the event at 10:00 with a quick rundown of the rules of the game and the schedule of play for the day.
Everybody was energetic and ready to get going to enjoy the day. We had 12 teams of 4 players each. We had some professional players and players who did not even know how to throw the “skei”.
The more experienced players stepped in and assisted everybody on how the game works and what the rules are. Once the players started to familiarise themselves with the rules and game play, everybody started getting into it. It was the perfect day for jukskei as the day warmed up and the skies were clear.
The kids enjoyed the jumping castle and we even had to cool it down with buckets of water.
7
Luckily there were lots of “strategic breaks” for everybody to fill up their glasses and rehydrate. The clubhouse bar was running smoothly as nobody waited long for their “refreshments”.
As the day went on, more and more people started showing up to support the players and socialise. At a time, there were more than 100 people at the venue. It was buzzing with laughter and friendship the whole day through.
After the games completed, we held a price giving for the top teams and lucky draws were done for the raffle tickets sold. After the quick ceremony some of the players and guests left, while the rest of us set up the projector and speakers to ready ourselves for the Springbok vs New Zealand rugby game and continued to party into the early hours.
I thoroughly enjoyed co-convening this project and believe it has the potential to get even bigger in the years to come.
Here is to an even bigger 2023!

RAMKAT FISHING AND THE
48M BOERIE
In mid June we at PTA136 got called to service once again from Oom Yster to assist with his yearly Ramkat Fishing competition for the disabled at Africa’s Pride Irene Country Lodge. A competition that was now running for the 12th year. It all started with a fishing competition only open for solders that lost limbs and has evolved to any person with a disability and even kids.
When I received the call from oom Yster I could hear the excitement in his voice for this years event. He was planning to go for a world record boerie roll of 80 meters, the current record is held by a Highschool in the Western Cape at 60m, yes 60m from end to end. When we met up at the venue in August the plan was to go for 80m, but there was two problems, the roof area where we wanted to display was only 49 meters and how would we braai 80m in limited space.
Oom Yster decided that we will go as far as possible and do the boerie roll on baguettes end to end. With the whole of Pta 136 and some 41ers we where set to assist in braai ing. One small hick up is that our very own Wian Vogel is getting married in October and fate would have it that his bachelor’s was set to be the day before.
Nevertheless, we where still in to do what we do even if it was with a bit of sleep deprivation. The morning of 25 September 2022 broke and I was on service at 6h30, a bit tired, and Oom Yster was sure to help by getting me up with coffee, 4 cups and rusks. With the rest of 136 arriving and the 41ers set to go we lit the fires at 9h30.
10
The first boeries hit the braais at 10h00 and we where on our way. By 12h00 the last piece of boerie left the fire and it was time to measure what we had accomplished.
Aaaaand we had a 48.66m boerie roll. We where also honored to have Mathuis Roets at the day that had his piece of boerie at the 33m mark.
It was a truly successful day with Oom Yster praising us for all we did and hearing the thank yous from all present made it a day for me to remember. Oom Yster also asked that we as PTA 136 please step up and take over the project from him as he is planning on retiring and would still want to be at the day but hand the planning over to Round Table.
So, watch this space and we hope that if we send out the call that all would want to assist in a feel-good day project.

SOKKIE
Dear Brothers,
Pretoria136 with Jacaranda Ladies Circle In Formation had the opportunity to host its first Sokkie since the pandemic at the round table Pretoria Community Center on the 9th of September 2022. And surprise surprise, everyone rocked up and was so energetic and excited for this first RT 136 Sokkie dance of the year. It was very obvious that people missed this traditional dance after the Covid pandemic.
The first 2 hours of the dance were a tide of old classic dance treffers. The dance floor filled, and everybody looked so comfortable with a drink in their hand and some weird moves being made up as they go along.
It was such an awesome vibe; everyone was so happy and thankful for the evening.
During the night we asked a few questions about how their evening was so far and they told us to arrange this every weekend. After a few drinks and a lot of dancing and giggles later, the evening came to an end. It was an awesome event, and we are sure that we will arrange this more often.
We want to thank the ladies of Jacaranda Ladies Circle In Formation for arranging this awesome event, they made sure that everything went smoothly and in place, from arranging the décor to the side dishes for the braai to the jumping castle for the kiddies.
We wish you well on your journey to becoming the first Pretoria table in the ladies circle family.

That time of the year was upon us once again where we had our annual BMG (Bosveld, Mpumalanga and Gauteng Tri Area) weekend. Always know in our area as the family weekend, and what a family weekend it was with over 50 children who joint their fellow Tabler Dad’s at BMG.
Arrived at Weesgerus on Friday evening and unpacked the car and sorted out the kids.
From there we headed straight to the Damlapa where all the fellow tablers and families gathered and having a ball.
It was so good to see everybody including our own RTSA President Werner Swanepoel and his follower VP Louis Radley.
Saturday 9am the meeting started and all other area tablers, spouses and children gathered to open the BMG officially.
The ladies and children went on their tour and the we had our meeting with Werner Swanepoel presenting his vision to us and for what table should strive towards.
After our meeting we all along the families hit the pools and the super tube with a lot of other activities to do at Weesgerus.
The Saturday night the Damduiker party kicked off with most of the tablers dressing according to the theme, some just had to pitch up as they normally do and fitted in like a glove.
It was a truly wonderful family weekend and know that we all wished this weekend would never end. I am so glad to have experienced a BMG again as this was my official last one as a tabler.

WESKOPPIES S.O.S SOCKS OR SLIPPERS
Weskoppies Mental and Psychiatric Hospital has been one of PTA 136 longest running project where we treat the patients to a dance or movie night 3 to 4 times a year. The last 2 years we were hampered with Covid restrictions and waves, but we still pulled through when it was possible to do so.
With the first dance this year, the Valentines dance, I spent some time with the Occupational Therapists and heard how these dances and movie nights are enjoyed and remembered for even weeks after the event. I wanted to know from them what some of the necessities where that they battle with. One was that some patient get there or dropped with almost nothing and that it does get hard in the winter with regards to foot covering such as socks and slippers. This was where the birth of SOS, Socks or Slippers was conceived.
The idea is to collect either socks or slippers in the run up to winter and have it donated to Weskoppies and its patients. As with any new project you want to tackle the world and set myself a target to collect 700 pairs of socks or slippers one pair for each patient. With a slow start my wife approached me and said she will take the challenge to her fellow employees and put a challenge out to the Pretoria Stor age stores. Within 2 weeks they raised 105 pairs of socks with 5 pairs of slippers to a value of R 3500.00. We also collected a donation of 19 pairs of socks donated by one of my neighbors and R600.00 donated in funds to purchase socks as well.
In total we had 155 pairs of socks and 5 pairs of slippers we donated to Weskoppies on 21 July 2022. This was not the 700 pairs I hoped for but it was enough to help 160 patients. On the day of handover, it was received with open arms and a bit off disbelief, as they were expecting maybe 40 to 50 pairs. This sparked in me that what sometimes doesn’t seem enough to us is sometimes allot in the recipients' eyes. Thus, with the 700 pairs fire still burning in me, I contacted my kids' school to do this again next year with their support to hit that 700 mark, and most probably knowing myself I would like to hit double that.
I would just want to thank all that was involved in making an #impactfulchange in a few patients lives.

From Drakensburg Area, Natal North Coast Area and Natal South Coast Area to Whiteriver, Bloemfontein, PE, Sandown,Aliwal, Prieska, Florida, Pretoria, Jukskei, Ficksburg, Algoa, Secunda, Yzerfontein, Louis Trichardt, Boksburg and Edenvale.
These were the destinations from where the various upstanding gentlemen from Round Table travelled to attend the KZN Tri-Area Conference on the 29th to the 30th of July 2022.
Ncandu 86 was privileged enough to have the honour of hosting this prestigious event at Majuba Lodge in Newcastle. Among the Round Table family members that made their way to our beloved town we had the pleasure of welcoming the majority of the RTSA council members, Past Chairmen, Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of a multitude of tables, Members, 41’ers, Pipeliners, Guests and the backbone of Round Table, our beloved Legs.
In addition to the Tablers and Legs, we had the Ladies Circle organisation President and VicePresident joining us at the conference. At the bar we also had assistance from the Rotary Club Newcastle, Lions Club Newcastle and Ladies Circle Newcastle (in formation) A very big thank you for your assistance.
As swiftly as Friday arrived, so too did the Rondle bearing family, proudly displaying the emblem of the day. The night saw old and new friendships grow as DJ Splashy set the tone for the weekend ahead.
Conversations about “how have you been”, “what is happening in your table” and “what you put in is what you’ll get out” flooded the venue as everyone settled in for a memorable conference.
Saturday morning was down to business as the popularity for Cream Soda took Newcastle by storm. The gents all looking spiffy in their “mooi-mooi’s” ready for what they came all this way to do.
19 KZN TRI-AREA 2022
The three conference rooms settled down and the constructive meetings commenced. With diplomacy the important matters were discussed, from the difference between “fellowship” and “gees” (no not geese) to letting tablers mature for an extra couple of years, and the ever increasing seriousness of men's mental health.
The legs of Round Table went on an epic lady's tour to the Vulintaba Country Estate where they learnt the dark arts of cocktail mixing and by the looks of things, they were all extremely happy after all those potions that they have concocted.
The afternoon saw a silence fall on the venue for a much-needed break as the group scattered for place to recharge. After a couple of hours, the venue regained life as everyone returned, ready to show their preparedness for the plague that is load shedding and we must concede, some of your load shedding survival kits are second to none.
The recharge clearly helped as the people kept the venue powered up until the early morning hours before the seemingly never-ending trip back to their hometowns. The weekend was an absolute “banger” and we have each and every one of you in attendance to thank for that.
Yours in Table.

Hello Fellow Tablers,
Round Table Estcourt 74 did our handouts from our winter knight’s project on the 16th August to the Methodist church, Shepstone Place and Thembelisha Care Project. This was a successful project and all the donations that were received made a huge diffidence in people's lives. Making a diffidence in the communities as round tablers is such a great privilege.
We as round table Estcourt thank all who helped with donation and all who received them were extremely grateful for all the assistance.

HILTON 242-WINTER KNIGHTS
The winter period saw member of Hilton 242 rallying together to get as many donations as possible for the Winter Knights initiative.
We manage to get 3 separate sites out in our area and received many donations from the community. Post were made on social media which gained traction very well and was a great help.
PMB 12 and Hilton 242 partnered together to buy a further 125 blankets made possible by projects done during the course of the year.
Ingonyama Nicon graciously sponsored a truck for us to load all our donations onto and hand them out to those in need in the community.
Thank you again to all who contributed to this amazing initiative.

Members of Hilton 242 came together recently to have a begging day at a set of robots in Hilton. The gents got dressed up even in the scorching heat and got to it, asking for donations from anyone and everyone.
Luckily the community played their part and the donations came rolling in.
It was a great day filled with laughs and a little sweat but a very productive one indeed.
We as Hilton Round Table would like to thank all those who made a contribution on the day.
We will be looking at making this an annual event to raise funds for charity.

JAM-JAR RALLY 2022
The Jamjar Rally was created by Paul Engler and a few of his mates in 2012 as a fun boy's weekend. News quickly spread and the following year there were quite a few more people wanting to take part which has led up to the great event it is now.
Rules of the rally are four team members per car, your car must be older then 30years, may not cost more then R30 000 00 upon purchase and pimping is essential.
We started off with all participants registering and receiving their ‘goody bags’ at something good at the beachfront which consisted of Jamjar Rally 2022 T shirts, bottled water, energy bars, Hype energy drinks and a few smaller odds and ends.
We had no idea what to expect as this was our 1st time taking part in the Jamjar Rally.
But us being 10GREAT quickly, adapted to our surroundings and we then hit the road at around 8am to our 1st stop which was at the Aldo Scribante racetrack where the guys had time to refill what needed to be filled and then we all had the chance to put in some flying laps trying to keep up with the lead car a rather sexy Porsche.
Once we gathered all the cars, we then hit the road through to the Addo hawkers' market where the participants were encouraged to support the hawkers and also do some shopping for food parcels which they had to then hand out to those in need.
It was really heart warming to see the hawker's reaction as we pulled into Addo as the Jamjar had passed there several years ago-yet the hawkers remembered the guys as if it was yesterday.
After a short break there we left and climbed onto the gravel where all the fun started.
26
We head through the Zuurberg mountains where 1 of the tasks were to stop at the main house and pay R100 toll fee for passing their house.
We eventually reached our lunch stop for the day where we were going to braai and do some team building events.
Before we even managed to get unpacked for lunch some fine gentlemen thought they would get the ‘gees’ going by doing some doughnuts for us which obviously ended up in a complete disaster with the car laying on its roof and just ice and beers everywhere.
Once we managed to flip the car back over, kick the windscreen out and clean up the mess that was left we decided to rather do lunch at the farm across the road.
After lunch we headed through to Somerset East where we all cleaned up and met for dinner and plenty of cold beverages at Somerset on main.
We woke up on Saturday morning, got ready and head down to the Plaasstel for a great breakfast to last us until lunch time.
After several hours on the gravel, we eventually found our lunch stop where everybody sorted themselves out with a braai and some awesome tasks created to ensure the participants managed to score at least some points on their score cards.
These tasks consisted of mini golf chipping, sweets in flour and paintball balloon challenge – the participants really had a jol at this stop.
27
After lunch we hit the road again expecting to be back at our accommodation at around 3pm….. Due to a FEW wrong turns, we were a running a bit later then expected which led to more ‘liquid time’ which in turn saw a few people (including some PE tablers) running on drips supplied by a participant who is a doctor while a dop in the other hand.
We then headed to the plaasstel for the rugby, prize giving, raffles and lucky draws which then obviously turned into a major party after the Boks won their game against Argentina.
After breakfast on Sunday morning all the cars pulled into the Mary Coetzee childrens home in Somerset to hand over bags of food and toys for the kids there.
Just the look on their faces to see all the cars was a priceless moment and a memory that will last a lifetime.
All in all, this rally was a great success and can only improve in the years to come.
Thank you to each and every sponsorship we had and especially to the gents in Algoa 108 we rocked this!

BOAT RACES
Round Table Port Alfred, together with Kenton, planned and hosted a joint Varsity Rowing Festival event called “Boat Races”. This event has been run by organizations in and out of Port Alfred but, in 2019 with an out of town company pulling out of the event, the town and tourism sector turned to the community for assistance and so Round Table took over.
Unfortunately Covid arrived on the shores of SA and this event was canceled for two years. 2022 was our year to make it bigger and better. With copious amounts of planning done by Eugene Catherine, (past Area Chairman, past 177 member, Kenton 41er) and both Tables, we had very high hopes of a well attended and successful event.
Finally the weekend of the 16th of September arrived and all was ready thanks to all the hard work by the Tablers. With weather unfortunately putting a dampen on things and deterring many, the two Tables still managed to pull off an impressive event. We saw roughly 2000 rowers, guests, locals and judges in attendance. A lot was learnt through the planning of this event and mental notes were made for the future.
I would like to thank each Tabler who put in the hard work, especially my own Table, Port Alfred 177. There are many hours of planning and preparation leading up to such an event, not to mention the huge clean up afterwards and everyone did their bit and more. It is greatly appreciated and definitely did not go unnoticed.
A big thank you to all our sponsors who have been thanked in our local news papers and social media pages. Approximately 1000 man hours have been put into planning, running and completing this event. Bonds have been made in growing this and other events from strength to strength. Great team work was seen between Kenton and Port Alfred looking forward to more joint ventures between the Albany triangle in the future.

CHAOS & BALL
To work at Cannonball Run for a first project, I don’t know what I was supposed to expect, but it was none of it, all of it and more. You could be forgiven for thinking a project going for 19 events over 20 years would be a well oiled money raising machine!
Well at least half of that is true. Coordinating 16 activities and 24 events over 3 days with 32 staff is no joke. The problems you have to deal with on the day, during an event where participants paid good money and are fueled with red mist (turning off all the traction controls) while charged with adrenaline is not for the easily rattled.
You are forced to take lead, you are forced to think quickly, you are forced to make a plan RIGHT NOW, and you BETTER NOT CALL ROSS or risk the fury of a thousand suns.
That said, Ross Chriton is the “idea guy”, and he has a magic ability for making things happen, coordinating that many events and all the staff is impossible, well not without pressure levels equaling the centre of a sun (hence the nickname Raging Ross).
So he intentionally decided that he won’t do that this year, which in itself is actually a great leadership philosophy (delegate authority not responsibility) and gives the staff ample opportunities to develop their own leadership skills, albeit daunting.
33
I’m not going to lie I was a tiny bit disappointed I didn’t get to see that (the exploding Ross), so obviously the delegation strategy worked.
Could things have been better planned? Sure, and they will be next year as we are now forced to adopt, adapt and improve. But can you really argue with raising R453,966.73?
To attempt to summarise the feelings throughout the event, think: adrenaline, sleep deprivation, intense teamwork, ad-hoc replanning, a kak ton of driving, suntan(burn) and of course supercars.
By the end of it all the crew couldn’t wait to unleash a massive jol, blowing out until 4am the next morning like mad scientists released from prison. For a first project this ignited a table fire in me that I didn’t know I had, and next year will be even bigger.
Thank you to Jaco Fourie for being the gateway to Polokwane, last minute support from Pretoria 137 and Bosveld area chair Antonie Smit, the 32 staff, all the contestants and of course Ross Chriton who could make an event like this possible.
P.s. Bosveld, no take backs, we will gladly have your support next year!

RAIDED BY THE WOLFPACK
It’s no secret that the Wolfpack of Northridge are the most social guys around. They have gotten their Gauteng passport stamped and have managed to attend a crazy amount of business meetings - making them official raids too.
After successfully hosting an area meeting, we had our first international guest for the year, all the way from Seychelles. Ramadz Vielle joined the official world pack in a social event filled with laughs and of course the infamous Howler.
We were gifted with pins and banners from our fellow tabler and shared stories of various table events and the famous Regatta event that Seychelles hosts. What a festival of fun that looks like!
We encourage everyone in Table to get in touch with travelling talers and host them. It’s an easy way to adopt, adapt and improve.
It’s great to explore the fellowship within table and see the massive impact we are making within our communities. The fellowship is an integral part of creating a sustainable future within Table to ensure the legacy continues.
Raids are a great way to introduce new guests to the ways of the best gentlemen’s club in the world.
Our clubhouse is getting filled with all the raided regalia, so if you’re around reach out to us.
The Wolf pack awaits. Awooooo #Howling YIT Donovan Farinha

EAST 181- KIDS
HOLIDAY 2022
So after a small break due to Covid 19, Round Table Golden East 181s' Kids Holiday was back for its 41st year!!
From the 2nd 9th October 2022, the Kids Holiday project aims to offer 14 young boys, between the ages of 10 and 12 years old, the opportunity of going on a holiday. A strong emphasis being placed on the boys being exposed to a normalized environment that promotes strong family values and morals. This is emphasized in the various cultural, educational, spiritual and social events that are planned during the week.
The boys are chosen via the various schools in the Benoni Area and are chosen on merit, those that excel in school and those that despite finding themselves in difficult circumstances, show up every day and do what is asked of them despite their situation. We aim to provide these boys with an opportunity to grow and develop. We aim to show them that there is a better life out there, one with people that care and despite the tough hand that life has dealt them, all hope is not lost. With hard work and determination one can lead a better life that will not only better one’s own situation, but the lives of others.
This year was no different, Kids Holiday 2022 was exciting from Day1, welcome bags and clothing kits were handed out. An awesome braai with Tablers and families meeting the kids. During the week we went jumping at Wi: Jump, racing at Compu kart, game viewing at the JHB ZOO, Motivational talks from WarriorRic zipping through the forest at Acrobranch , hole in ones at Putt Putt, rollercoaster rides at Gold Reef, Action Sports and buggy riding at Jukskei 217,
36 GOLDEN
big screen with Edenvale 63, magic shows from GeeWiz, Slip n Slide at the Party Park , riding on the back of Harley Davidson motorcycle, to a sight seeing trip around Soccer City in a Helicopter. Awesome meals were sponsored through out the week and various activities on the evenings.
A truly memorable experience for every one of the boys! Thank you to all of our donors and sponsors, Blastrite, OLI South Africa, IC Auto Nissan, Clare Talbot family, SA Scaffold, Dow Jones, PepsiCo, Falcon Tiles, Green Gate Properties, ForeTheBoys GC, RocoMamas Northmead, Pick n Pay Towers, Kwikscaff, Postnet Ormonde, Boden Water, LS Metals, Rosco Paints, WarriorRic, Nandos Central , Mont Blanc Insurance, Clyde Lewis, Mike Scrooby, Benoni Ladies Circle 25, Alex Staniland, Patriots MC-East Side, Rynfield Drapers and so many others, we appreciate you.

COMPETITION
After hard work, long hours, lots of planning and re planning, the day of the braai competition arrived on the 3rd of September 2022. Fourteen teams of well known businesses and the 41ers team set up their gazebos, banners, tables and braais. At 06:30 on Saturday morning, I arrived at Action Arena to the beautiful sight of erected gazebos and teams coming in to perform their final setup touches in front of my eyes.
At 07:00, we had a team briefing and quickly discussed the rules and the layout of the day. The first 5 teams drew their starting times and received their special ingredients and the goodie bag from Round Table 34 Windhoek.
The first team started at 07:30 and the subsequent teams began their braais in 10minute increments from the starting team. All the teams had precisely 3 hours to light their fires, complete the starters, mains and desserts. Thereafter the judges, Sanet Prinsloo, Roelien le Grange and Phillip Kleinsmith judged all the the teams. Each team received a loaf of white bread, sponsored by Namib Mills for their starters, a lamb rib sponsored by Hartlief, and Eembe (Namibian Amarula) sponsored by Erongo Winery.
At the respective starting time of each team, I personally delivered the special ingredients and set them off to their camps to commence with the competition. The 3 hours went by quickly and the judging started. After each team’s judging, I went by and had a chat to see what they made with the ingredients and just to mingle with the teams. I made it my duty for the day to have as many chats with each team as I possibly can. To my enjoyment I chatted to every team individually and the 41ers displayed so much energy and knowledge that we could learn from them.
41 THE ULTIMATE BRAAI
The judges handed me the final scoring and accumulated points and without further ado I rounded up the teams for the long awaited prize giving. Our first prize was, N$ 5,000.00 in cash sponsored by FNB Namibia! Wow, thank you FNB, what an awesome prize. One of the four Quality Tyres teams who entered, Boemel Braai, won the first overall prize. The 2nd prize was a N$ 3,000.00 voucher sponsored by Spar Namibia, and that was won by non other than the 41ers of Round Table. See, I told you the knowledge they have…. In 3rd position the team of Spes Bona (Chopies) came in and was awarded with 3x N$ 500.00 vouchers sponsored by Benchwarmers Sports Pub & Grill. Thank you, Johan!
We also had a best starter prize, a best mains prize and a best dessert prize. They were sponsored by Axles and Gearboxes, Tegnika Trading cc and Auas Motors Windhoek, FNB and Erongo Winery. They were won by the 41ners for the best mains, Quality Tyres(Boemel Braai) for the best desert and Quality tyres (boemel Braai) for the best starters. The team with the cleanest kitchen and best team spirit prize were won by Cartrack and it was sponsored by Outdoor Warehouse. The Indongo Toyota team (Chill out Grillers) wont the best effort prize sponsored by Tegnika Trading and Namib Mills.
We also had a hamper sponsored by Taueber and Corssen Namibia and that was broken up into 9 smaller prizes that we handed out with a lucky draw that Loubser helped with. Arebbusch Travel Lodge sponsored 2x N$500 vouchers that we used to thank Philip Kleinsmith and his wife for the kitchen and spirit judging.

I would like to thank every team, every sponsor, every tabler that either helped or supported in any way for the awesome event. Without you, I could not have done it. We also had dog beds, medium and large sized, made and sponsored by Quality Tyres, and also 10x 8kg bags of dog food sponsored by Feedmaster, and lastly N$ 665.00 cash donated by ITF (Tegnika Trading CC) that they received through the drilling and guessing games they had on the day at their braai stand. All of these sponsors and a lump sum from our income will be donated to the SPCA of Windhoek. The beds and food were already handed over on Saturday to Richard, a committee member of the SPCA.
The venue, Action Arena, were sponsored by Werner, thank you Werner for the big sponsor and also running around the whole day to make sure that everything ran smoothly. We had a paramedic on site for the day and N$ 1,000.00 of the total costs was sponsored by Namibia Rescue Services. Then, Future Media sponsored us airtime and broadcasting with music on the day to the value of N$ 30,935.00, I am speechless yet again.
Namibians have open hearts and are always willing to help where they can.

MAERUA AT LAKE OANOB
Our last weekend away with the children was in 2019, compliments of none other than Covid 19. However, in 2020 with the help of JF Paints (Dulux Namibia) we were able to have the children’s home interior fully renovated and enjoyed a quick braai. In 2021, due to restrictions of corona we had to cancel our plans and instead hosted a fund day at Action Arena and Smokey Mare where we treated the children to partake in boere sports, enjoy jumping castles whilst the older children were happy play two rounds of paintball and it all was rounded off with a delicious lunch of burgers, French fries and cooldrinks.
This year we had no restrictions and Round Table Windhoek 34 was able to accompany the children of Huis Maerua to Lake Oanob near Rehoboth on the weekend from the 9th to the 11th of September.
As everybody at Table is a either a little busy or broke only Daniel and Mark were able to spend the entire weekend with the kids.
We left Windhoek after work on the Friday whilst the children had already left after school, so we had to be quick to catch up to them.
Once arrived a Lake Oanob Resort, we instantaneously put up our camp site and then joined the children. Most of them were in inflated tubes or kayaks enjoying the water and simply having fun. It was such a joy to hear the kids laugh and witness their carefree nature. This is what this project is all about. With that in mind we decided to provide them with all their cooldrinks and water for the weekend and also took out the over 4kg of boerewors that were braaied that evening and to make delicious hotdogs with ketchup, mustard and onions.
45 HUIS
On the Saturday morning we rocked up at 08:30 as agreed upon with the house parents for breakfast and to take on the day. The children once again enjoyed cooling off in the water. At just after 10:00 our chairman and 41er, Marius and Ian, joined in on the fun in time to present the children with their goodie bags containing shirts, cooler bags, sweets, chips juice and water. We certainly did not want anyone to become diabetic but were inclined to spoil the children as best as we could for the entire weekend. With a certain sugar high, we then played music over a portable speaker and commenced with the boere sports and other games. The tug of war was a fun event in particular. With a water break to ensure the children remained hydrated in the sun and additional application of sunblock we played a final round of games before calling a break for lunch a powernap.
At 14:30 we took the 20 children and their 4 house guardians to the marina where they enjoyed a two hour boat cruise on the “Fish Eagle” where they were also treated to a snack, cool drinks and delicious ice cream on a stick. The feedback received from the children and house guardians alike certainly proved that this was a worthwhile “expense” and an experience not to be forgotten by them.
After a long day with lots and lots of activities, action, laughter and sweet treats the children enjoyed another round in the water with the kayaks and tubes before enjoying a fantastic braai.
46
On the Sunday morning the Daniel and Mark quickly packed up and left the campsite to visit the children one final time for breakfast before they had their Sunday church walk in the bushes.
We left the children behind who still spent the entire day at the resort. The car ride home was rather quiet with the convenors reminiscing about the weekend’s events and gratitude to be able to make a small but invaluable difference to the children of Huis Maerua. Do not for once believe that you are not favoured because we have all the chances in the world and therefore this project shall always be a very special one, yearon-year, as it touches your heart, and you gain lost perspective in life on what is actually important.
This was Daniel’s first project as a co-convenor and he has done exceptionally well. Next year he shall take over the reigns as main convenor.
It is never easy nor fun to ask businesses for money to help us put a project together. To each and every sponsor we say ‘THANK YOU’ for your commitment and assistance. Without you we are unable to host this phenomenal project which goes straight to the heart. Be assured that your contribution went to a very great cause and the children had a weekend that is certain to be a highlight in their year.

PUB QUIZ

We hosted our most successful Pub Quiz yet, on Friday, 26 August 2022.
This year 106 attendees gathered at the Blue Marlin Guest House for a fun filled evening of fundraising to further the aims and objectives of Round Table Richards Bay.
During this evening, attendees’ knowledge of music, South Africa, sports, and Richards Bay were tested in the quiz.
All while allowing them to ‘bribe’ our sergeants for answers and declaring the entire venue a buffalo zone with a fine payable for each buffalo.
Sports memorabilia were also on auction, along with an invisible shirt, a rock, and a 2l bottle of Coca Cola. (Guess which of these sold for the highest bid the 2l Coca Cola!)
This event which is proving to be such a big hit that we have decided to host another Pub Quiz in November 2022!

YIT

GEORGE 30 SAY HI TO STEPS
It is about time that we introduce the world to our transfer from Kroonstad, who now holds the position of George 30 Secretary.
His name is Stefan “Steps Dup” Du Plessis.
He joined us earlier this year and climbed deep into the hearts of everyone who’s ever come across him.
He is a quiet, yet confident young man that carries the Rondel on his chest with great pride and diligence.
Every single person that has come across him, will agree that he is true, selfless and for the most part, extremely entertaining.
We are proud to have you as a part of George 30 and we look forward to the great strides you will make in our community.

THANK YOU, AND A SPECIAL CONDOLENCE
Swellendam 179 received a massive donation recently, from PTC. PTC is a construction business from Vrede in the Free State, who relocated to Swellendam.
John, the owner, found out that Round Table Swellendam 179 were in the process of changing their Club House floor from wood to cement. Without thinking twice, John offered to do the restoration without any cost to RT Swellendam.
It took John and his team all of one Saturday morning to come in and complete the job, without any fuss or hesitation.
It was a wonderful gesture and Swellendam 179 would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt thanks to PTC and John Cox for this.
John sadly passed away on the 24th of August this year, to the heartfelt sadness of everyone he touched in the Swellendam community.
In the short time he was in Swellendam, he truly made lots of friends and touched the lives of many people.
Swellendam 179 and all the Southern Cape Round Table, extends our thoughts and prayers to his loving family, his wife Milet and all who knew him. Rest in peace John.

RT50 CLOTHING DRIVE WITH LAERSKOOL DAGBREEK
As we are all aware, Winter Knights has been nominated and voted in as Round Table Southern Africa’s only alliance project. This year was no different and as the Cold set in, and Nothing Burns like the Cold (See what I did there?), Round Table Carletonville 50 immediately sprang into action with arranging our weekly Thursday Soup nights.
Upon our quest to make at least some difference in those that are exposed to the cold’s lives, we realized that there is more of a need for clothing as a lot of the people we were serving, had minimal clothing to keep warm.\\
We produced an awesome idea (As Tablers do!), okay, so we must hand this one to our Ladies, they produced the idea to contact one of our local primary schools and put a request out for the children and families to bring any item of clothing to school by a certain date and we will then collect the same…
But here was the catch, The entire idea behind bringing the clothes to school was that we, Round Table Carletonville 50, wanted to see if we could hang the clothing collected on a rope/line between the two Rugby Poles across the length of the Rugby Field.
Needless to say and as the pictures illustrate, we had been donated so many clothes that we weren’t even able to get the entire rope off the ground as the Rugby posts started leaning inwards! Wow right?
70
We have since sorted all of the clothing into age groups, gender and sizes and have been able to assist many with a new/warm item of clothing throughout our soup drives.
What’s even more awesome, is that we have been able to contact people that have requested assistance on the Social Media platforms and assist them too.
Guess this story is a bit of a read but damb, is it hasn’t touched your heart, I might have to suggest that you check your pulse…… #justsaying
This project comes to show that a community, when asked, comes together to assist those around them. We just have to do the Groundwork which is as much fun! Perhaps a little challenge on the cards between Tables for next Year? #clothingdrive #winterknights #supportlocal YIT

Well done to Stephen Lucas, Willie and Bernhard Van Den Berg showing their rondels and putting smiles on the community on 17th September 2022.

SPECTACULAR
In April Paarl 44 had a visit from Christo. Christo was here to promote his fight for sight. After Christo left Paarl 44 was amazed at what this project is going on and what a great ongoing project this was. Paarl 44 had a chat and wanted to start a project that is also an ongoing project.
We produced the idea that can benefit the unprivileged people in the Paarl community. The name was SPECTACULAR, and we wanted to provide glasses. Paarl sent a few emails around to see if any Optometrists was willy to work with us.
We came across VDM Optometrist. We arrange a meeting and from the start the owner was very keep helping. We came up with let’s do a buy one, give one promotion at her store for the next 100 glasses.
They did everything Paarl 44 just have to get frames and names on a list. Now there is 73 names on the list and 20 people already got their glasses. We are striving go give the 100 glasses before end of November.
When the 100 glasses are done, this project will continue. They gave us very good prices. Paarl 44 is very proud of this new project and are seeing forward where the project will end up.

BLOEDSKENK

VUILBEKERROETE
Die antwoord kom toe in mooi vlot Engels as volg: “ooo this is Durbanville 165’s new Tabler Mug. The newest Tabler has to carry this and drink from it everywhere another Tabler is present, or else…

TABLING OUTSIDE
OUR 4 WALLS
Since joining Round Table, the wise men around me always told me that you only truly understand Tabling if you Table outside of your 4 walls. Durbanville 165 experienced this during our Beesloop campaign in 2021 and I loved it.
So when the opportunity came to travel to Oxford, England, for work (and only 3 days notice), I immediately reached out to Oxford 144 to see if I could enjoy some local fellowship. This being Round Table, within a few days, the local “lads” had organized an historical pub crawl to Oxford’s finest spots.
From bars built in the 1200’s, bars where even ‘Huiskat’ would have a problem standing up in, and bars where Bill Clinton sampled some local “plants”, I had an incredible time.
I got to meet 6 of their Tablers and 3 pipeys, we discussed their membership drives, their fireworks project where they raise R1.4m in 5 hours, and their Santa Sleigh project where they drive through the streets handing out presents to those who might only get that 1 present for Christmas.
83
We swapped pins, coins and banners. We swapped stories and banter. It felt like I was talking to my fellow WP Tablers, although we’d only just met (and there wasn’t any Brandy in sight). It was truly the highlight of my trip. They also showed a keen interest in Inceba and shared our video and presentation with their Tablers. They’ve also now reached out to a local Baby Box to see how they can help.
This proves how Round Table is truly the best young men’s organization in the World. I’d encourage all of you to get in contact with local Tables when traveling. What a privilege we have to be part of this.
Yours in Table Andy Teare Durbanville 165

JAG
After our first edition of the "The Ghost of Owen Frye" tour last year during the pandemic, it was clear that it had to be repeated. Therefore, I booked my tickets to South Africa and celebrated my eighth ARTSA. For nearly five weeks, I spent time in this beautiful country and met many ladies, 41ers and brothers.
Everything started again by contacting my dear friend Graham Cornelissen. People know him as the convenor of the Ghost Tour and for some other portfolio he holds. We made a rough plan and checked which part of the country we could visit, how much wine we should taste in the Western Cape, and how we should travel to Jeffrey's Bay for ARTSA. The plan was set, so I arrived in Johannesburg on the 6th of April, where Graham was already awaiting me. Initially, we spent time in Gauteng, where we met with many Tablers from Gauteng Area. We enjoyed one or two brandies and had many awesome braais. Jukskei 217 took good care of me, and we went to a typical Afrikaans concert. I have never heard the name of the artist before, but hey now Appel and I are best friends. A particular highlight was the excellent Rum and Gin tasting at EarthBound distillery. During this time, we met up with IRO Gerhard and President Stefan and members of Carletonville 50 and Sandown 150. People ask me why I am going to Gauteng so much, as I should have seen everything by now. There are still so many things to discover, and this year we went to a great market at Bus Stop 7. We had a fabulous fine dining experience with Graham and his lovely wife, Yvette, at Fermier restaurant in Pretoria.
Celebrating Easter abroad is always an experience. Especially when you are bringing Austrian traditions to South Africa. Luckily there is an Austrian Butcher and a German Bakery to get the right goodies for a typical Easter meal. When I asked Graham if he knew where to get some coloured painted Easter eggs, he looked worriedly at me. The traditional meal was ready with typical ham, smoked sausages, horseradish, cheese, and a self made egg salad. We even got the coloured eggs.

We moved to Cape Town next. Personally, going to Church services is important. So, we joined the Easter Vigil in Cape Town with the Archbishop at the Cathedral. After the service, we had an excellent opportunity to chat with him.
Our program was very relaxed, and our mission was clear: wine tasting, seeing friends and some more wine tasting. After arriving at the Strand's accommodation, we wanted to surprise Villiersdorp 225 during their business meeting. Of course, we needed to stop at some wine farms on the way there. Loadshedding is something new to me, and that night was my first experience of it. The meeting was held in their clubhouse in a "candlelight dinner" style.
We discovered many great new restaurants, places to be and wine farms. Enjoying the scenery by going via the mountain pass to Franschhoek, some more wines had to come. An extraordinary place was Pigcasso the painting pig. This was one of the most unique things in the world and something I enjoyed. We continued going to Paarl, where we met our old friend Wynand and his wife, Kristina. The scenery in the Western Cape is just stunning. We drove along the coastline and stopped at Boulders Beach to see the penguins. We continued to Cape Point and went for lunch at Hout Bay. During the lockdowns in Austria, I started hiking a lot. I never gained this experience so far in South Africa. The reason could be the tour convenor, but nobody knows. Graham just says that the tour is a one sweat drop tour and that he prefers to give me a relaxing experience, not a challenging one. Judy from Ladies Circle invited me to hike Lions Head and to see the sunset there. It was a wonderful experience, and the view from there was just stunning. We also had a full moon on this day, and it was a magical moment when the moon appeared from behind Table Mountain. After the hike, we deserved cocktails, and we went to have very stylish drinks in Camps Bay.
On Easter Monday, we joined Table View 246 for their Easter Bunny celebration at a children's shelter. After hiding all the sweets, the children enjoyed the activity and attacked the Easter Bunny. We had a lovely social gathering at their clubhouse, and another awesome day at the Ghost of Owen Frye Tour was over.

Our time in the Cape was over, and we flew back to Gauteng. Just for a day as the tour continued to the Natal North Coast. Guy picked me up from the airport, and we enjoyed a lovely day at Umhlanga. In the evening, we joined the Durban 2 business meeting, and on the following day, Gian took me up to Richards Bay. There we had a social gathering with Umhlathuze 261 and on the next day with Richards Bay 200. Harm made an awesome potjie, and we feasted like kings. It feels like coming home when visiting this area every year. A lovely braai at the beach was a great end in Richards Bay, and we left with the boys from Empangeni 61 to Eshowe 24. Dean and his beautiful family hosted me this night. We went to the social meeting at Umhlanga 155, where we met Ronald, the new Area Chairman and his colleagues. Since my first NARTSA, I have always been travelling to the NNCA. RT Austria and the NNCA have a twinning agreement for over 20 years where we support some of their charities.
On the following day, our road trip to Jeffrey's Bay started. Cameron and I drove from Durban through the Transkei to the Eastern Cape. This was a unique experience with the scenery on the way to Coffee Bay and the Hole in the Wall. Riane, Martin, Ashley and Kevin joined us in Coffee Bay, and we spent the whole day together discovering the area. Staying at the backpackers was a new experience for me. Having a chilled atmosphere at the bonfire in the evenings was awesome. We left early in the morning to head to ARTSA in Jeffreys Bay.
Finally, a physical ARTSA again!!!
You were able to feel the special moments at the welcome evening. Everybody was hugging, chatting and sharing drinks together. What an incredible evening. Many international guests could join the 71st ARTSA in the Eastern Cape. During the Area night, I was able to support the team from RT the Netherlands, and I was making poffertjes for all the lovely guests. Having discussions during the forums, preparing for the actual meeting and setting the path for the future are vital points during every AGM weekend. I was very proud and honoured to speak on behalf of the international guests during the gala night. A huge thanks to Stefan for the invitation to speak and the Dr David Smith medal for ten years of service.

Unfortunately, things did not work out as planned back in Gauteng as I got sick and needed to visit a doctor. We still were able to meet some friends, went shopping and prepared for the departure. As we started last year with the tradition of visiting the ambassador of Austria, we also did so this year. Unfortunately, he also got sick, so we met the deputy head of mission and exchanged about the political situation in South Africa.
Spending a couple of weeks in a different country is always an experience. If you are sharing this time with Tablers, who became very close friends in the last few years, it is even better. Going to South Africa is not like going somewhere on vacation; it is like going to your second home.
A huge thanks to Graham as the tour convenor! It was a pleasure and unique experience and something that I will never forget. The Ghost of Owen Frye Tour is an exclusive tour with one sweat drop and five brandy drops.
Round Table gives us all so many great possibilities. A club founding member told me once: The Round Table Badge is the passport to the world travel it well.
Thank you for the opportunity and the great friendship! Can't wait for the next year's ARTSA in Bushveld!
I promise you: I'll be back!
Yours in international tabling Marc
