Your Liberal Arts Education We hope this section will give insight into how your transcript’s audience, who is likely not familiar with Evergreen, might engage with your Academic Statement and transcript by explicitly connecting Evergreen values to those held by academics and employers outside of Evergreen. Evergreen is a liberal arts school, but what does that mean? How does an Evergreen education line up with widely accepted definitions of the liberal arts? The goal of this section is to illustrate a few connections between how Evergreen and others think about education. Here we will show some viewpoints of people who live and work outside of the culture and system of Evergreen through the well-known texts: Only Connect and Humanity, Diversity, and the Liberal Arts. Using the following skills and values to help plan your education can help you become a well-rounded student.
The Six Expectations are not the only way Evergreen has interpreted its commitment to Liberal Arts. You might get inspired by looking at documentation on Evergreen’s founding as an experimental institution of higher education, the ideas that accompany that founding, and how they have changed over time. You can find this documentation in the archives in the library.
