Overview

What are the Academic Statements, and what is the difference between the Annual and Final Academic Statement?

They are essays. These essays focus explicitly on the sum of your personal and academic experiences in college. Your Academic Statements show how you are developing your most valued ideas, expanding your range of skills, and achieving your most exciting accomplishments.

They are part of a cycle of reflection. From the time you apply for admission to the time you graduate from Evergreen, you will have many opportunities to make meaning out of your learning through reflective writing. Each quarter, you have the opportunity to reflect on your education through writing Self-Evaluations. When you write your Academic Statement, you will make meaning out of your past experiences and connect your past to your present (and possibly future) self.

They are drafted and published. Each year, you are asked to write an Annual Academic Statement, which is sometimes called Annual Revision or Academic Statement draft. These annual drafts won’t be published in your transcript, but they are used towards writing your final Academic Statement which will be published in your transcript.
