Lyceum
Lyceum is an interdisciplinary experience that brings together lectures, presentations, and group discussion on a particular theme. It provides an opportunity for students to engage in meaningful dialogue that connects to their own academic work. Through this process, Lyceum helps foster a sense of community and celebrates diversity. Lyceum is held weekly for all Evergreen Tacoma students and is offered in-person and virtually.
Early Childhood Education Program
At Evergreen Tacoma, you can complete your Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a focus on Early Childhood Education (ECE). This twoyear program blends interdisciplinary learning with specialized ECE coursework, helping you build the knowledge, skills, and experience to support young learners.
A Unique Bilingual Learning Model
Courses are taught through a dual-language model, with instruction in both English and Spanish. You’ll learn alongside a diverse group of peers in a collaborative environment that values language as a strength. Through shared learning, language partnerships, and balanced coursework in both languages, you’ll develop the skills to work effectively in multilingual and multicultural settings.

Transferring Credits
Understand your options for transferring credit to Evergreen Tacoma. Evergreen accepts credits from a regionally accredited institution that are: » Academic or vocational » 100 level or higher » Passed with a 2.0 GPA or better A maximum of 135 quarter credits can be transferred into Evergreen. » Up to 90 lower-division academic* credits (level 100-299) » Up to 45 upper-division academic* credits (level 300-499) » Up to 15 technical/vocational credits

What is the Upside Down Transfer Credit Option?
Get the most out of your liberal arts experience.
If you have a vocational or technical associate degree, you may be eligible for Evergreen’s Upside Down program. You’ll gain a broad range of knowledge to apply to what you already know.

Technical or Applied Associate Degree
Students who qualify for the Upside Down Transfer Option are required to take 32 credits at Evergreen in an interdisciplinary program which is unrelated to their technical degree. This ensures that students with a technical background experience at least 32 credits of broad, liberal arts course work. This is why this transfer option is called "upside down." Turn Experience Into Credit
Your professional, military, volunteer, and life experiences may already count toward your degree. Evergreen’s Prior Learning from Experience program gives adult students the opportunity to document college-level learning through a facultyreviewed portfolio of essays, research, and supporting materials. Depending on your experience, you may earn up to 30 academic credits, helping you save both time and tuition on your path to graduation. It’s no coincidence that Evergreen alumni flourish in the working world. Nearly 9 in 10 Evergreen alumni are employed or pursuing professional studies within a year of graduation. Here are just a few of the many Greeners using their skills to change the world. Onya Robertson ’23, MPA ’26 is a Pro-Equity Consultant for Washington State’s Office of Equity on the Innovation and Impact team. This team helps agencies understand the real-life impacts and inequities of decisions to build a system of accountable government.
Kwabi Amoah-Forson ’15 is a passionate Peace Humanitarian from Tacoma, Washington supporting community home and abroad through local humanitarian aid efforts and Peace Education Programs on The Peace Bus.
Kiara Daniels ’14, MPA ’18 is Tacoma’s Deputy Mayor and proud Tacoma, Washington native of the Central Hilltop neighborhood, where she is a longtime community advocate. Korbett Mosesly ’11, MPA ’15 is the Community Reinvestment Plan Managing Director for the Washington State Department of Commerce. This pivotal initiative addresses systemic injustices in drug-related laws in Washington State. Carol Wolfe ’96 is the Economic Development Supervisor for the City of Tacoma. The Community and Economic Development Department supports both new and existing businesses, living wage jobs, and housing to enhance quality of life in Tacoma.

The Evergreen State College—Tacoma Evergreen Tacoma traces its roots to 1972, when faculty member Maxine Mimms set out to bring Evergreen’s distinctive approach to education directly into her community in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood. While continuing to teach at Evergreen’s Olympia campus, Dr. Mimms welcomed students into her own kitchen, where the first Evergreen Tacoma classes began. Built on the belief that higher education should be accessible, community-centered, and transformative, those early gatherings laid the foundation for something extraordinary. What started around a kitchen table grew into a thriving learning community rooted in equity, opportunity, and service. With a continued commitment to access and student success, Evergreen Tacoma remains a place where learners of all backgrounds can pursue meaningful education while staying connected to the communities they call home.
