Saying goodbye to prescription queues! THE electronic prescription system should be in place throughout Alicante province by mid-September. This will be warmly welcomed by patients with a chronic health condition who need repeat prescriptions. In the past, they received three months’ prescriptions at a time but then spending cuts on health began to hit home. Since then they have had to queue, sometimes interminably, for one prescription at a time at their Health Centre reception desk. All patients now receive a printed sheet from their primary care doctor which they then take with their SIP health card to the chemist, who fills the prescription. For repeat prescriptions, dates are set out when patients should return for more medication.
