Murcia looks ahead to a 2026 filled with festivals, food and culture.

THE New Year has come and gone, and as Murcia finally wraps up its holiday festivities and slowly begins to pack up its decorations, residents in the region are already looking ahead to the goals to achieve, new places to visit, and new events to look forward to in 2026. A buzzing hotspot of activity, the Costa Calida is no stranger to events and festivities year-round, and locals and visitors alike will be flocking to the coastline and the charming inland areas to see

and experience the year in one of Spain’s most shining regions. Once the winter chill goes away and temperatures start to rise, spring will bring a variety of cultural and traditional activities in the region of Murcia. Most notably, Semana Santa, or Holy Week, the Festival of Moors and Christians, and the Murcia Tres Culturas international festival are the events many residents of the region are most looking forward to. Summer, and in particu-

lar July, will see a myriad of music festivals, for which Murcia is very well known. The region will host multi-genre blowout festivals, including Rock Imperium n Cartagena, the Fan Futura Fest in Los Alcázares, and the International Mediterranean Folklore Festival in Murcia City. As is to be expected, gastronomy will also play a huge role in the social scene for Murcia this year. The 2026 calendar is full of gastronomic experiences including the Food

Festival Murcia, coming this month on January 2325, Murcia Foodie Week in spring, and the ‘La Huertana’ Festival in Lorca in November, just to name a few. Overall, residents of Murcia have a lot to look forward to for the exciting year ahead. With new challenges, new records to set, and new experiences to be had, Murcia continues to prove that each new era can be bigger than the last, and its residents and visitors are enjoying every step of the way.

Record returns RESIDENTS and visitors in Murcia are looking back on an excellent year, with records broken, strong growth, and a flourishing cultural and social life on the Costa Calida. The year was characterised by blowout events, fun-filled festivities, and shining traditions that remind visitors why they continue to choose Costa Calida time and time again. In 2025, the region of Murcia saw historic numbers of international tourists, with more than 1.09 million foreign visitors from January to October. Murcia also had the fastest growth rate in international tourism in the whole of Spain for October of 2025. With record tourists also came record spending for the region. British tourists were among the most enamoured with Costa Calida in 2025, contributing strongly to the regional economy and showing up in droves to enjoy the shining coastline and charming small towns. Community events also took centre stage during the year, with charity organisations and associations taking the reins for managing local events that kept neighbours connected and entertained. Especially during the holiday season, those living in Murcia made sure that their less privileged neighbours did not have to go without. Murcia is also known for its vibrant music and cultural scene, and this did not change in 2025. With countless concerts spanning all different types of genres, cultural festivals with lavish costumes, and long-standing traditions that now feel like second nature, Murcia showed its mettle when it came to celebrations and camaraderie on the Costa Calida.
