Costa del Sol • No. 2114 • 8 - 14 January 2026
JANUARY has never been a better time to take a flying visit to the capital from Malaga, thanks to Renfe’s latest Superprecio promotion. Starting January 8, the Spanish railway operator is offering high-speed AVE tickets from as low as €15 and low-cost Avlo fares from €7 for journeys including the popular Malaga-Madrid route. Normally costing upwards of €50-€100 one way, these deals make a quick getaway affordable. The sale runs until January 18 or until promotional seats sell out, with travel valid from January 8 onwards across AVE, Avlo, and other services. Tickets, marked ‘Superprecio’ on Renfe’s website and app, allow upgrades from Basic to the more flexible Elige option for just €3 extra, enabling changes and cancellations. Loyalty programme Más Renfe members earn points on top of the discounts. With the high-speed link covering the 500km in under three hours, January’s chill in Madrid pairs perfectly with Malaga’s milder weather for a spontaneous cultural escape. Starlite music Fest.
IN 2026, the Costa del Sol anticipates several major projects, including Malaga’s tech expansion with investments from Nvidia and Google, Costa del Sol Airport growth, and the €286 million Starlite Music World. This ambitious development plans to establish the region as a year-round international music and audiovisual centre, generating 450 permanent jobs and thousands more indirectly. Located on the scenic hills of La Panera, the 11-hectare ‘Music City’ is under active construction. It will feature a 15,000-seat auditorium, a 200-room luxury hotel, and advanced film and recording studios in a dedicated audiovisual city. Declared a ‘Strategic Interest’ project, it has been
fast-tracked by the Andalucian government for its economic impact. The full site targets completion by 2027, but expansions are underway sooner. In spring 2026, the first Starlite Beach Club opens at the revitalised Laguna Beach complex - a 2,000 square-metre permanent venue offering live music, dining, and exclusive feel for up to 600 guests. Meanwhile, the Starlite Occident Festival prepares for its 15th anniversary this summer in Mar-
bella’s Nagüeles Quarry, featuring artists like Lenny Kravitz (June 29), Maroon 5 (July 7), and Deep Purple (July 9). The initiatives riding the waves of Costa del Sol’s continued growth in tourism, culture, and high-skilled employment.
