Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the ESCRS Board it is my great pleasure to welcome you back to Athens for the 23rd ESCRS Winter Meeting. We are delighted to be returning here after very successful meetings in 1999, 2007 and 2016, and to be joined once again by our colleagues from the Hellenic Society of Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery. The scientific programme continues to include an extended didactic programme, with courses in Basic Optics, Cataract, Refractive Surgery and Cornea, and a Young Ophthalmologists Programme. The programme also includes four main symposia, free paper sessions, moderated poster sessions, eposters, a range of surgical skills training courses and a didactic programme for nurses and technicians. The Annual Cornea Day on Friday has been organised once again in conjunction with EuCornea and we would like to thank them for their continued participation in the Meeting. For the first time, instructional courses will be available at the Winter Meeting. The courses will take place on Friday and include ‘Intraocular lenses in the absence of capsular support’, ‘Complex cataract surgery’ and ‘Spectacle independence after cataract surgery’. The HSIOIRS has made a significant contribution to the scientific programme and I would like to thank Professor Konstantina Koufala, HSIOIRS President, and everyone involved for all their time and support. With so much on offer, it will be impossible to attend every session. However, if you log on to the Education Portal on the ESCRS website, you can access the sessions and didactic courses on ESCRS On Demand and ESCRS iLearn, as well as discover a wide range of video content and other materials. I hope you find the Meeting beneficial and rewarding, and that you enjoy your time in Athens.

Yours sincerely,

Beatrice Cochener-Lamard President, ESCRS

LETTER FROm TH E HSI O IRS PRESI D ENT

Dear Colleagues, It is my sincere pleasure to welcome the ESCRS to Athens once again. The Hellenic Society of Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery is delighted to have the opportunity to hold its 33rd annual meeting in conjunction with the ESCRS Winter Meeting, offering delegates a rich and varied three day programme. The Hellenic Society of Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery has contributed to the programme in various ways, including organising the ‘Near Live Surgery’ session on Saturday afternoon and a symposium on ‘Advanced technology: better results?’ on Sunday morning. The 2019 HSIOIRS Kelman Lecture will be given by David Spalton during the Welcome Ceremony on Friday afternoon. The title of the lecture is ‘Life behind the lens’. In conjunction with the Egyptian Ophthalmological Society a symposium has been organised on Friday afternoon titled ‘Keratoconus: diagnosis and management’. We are very pleased to have this opportunity for our two organisations to collaborate at an international meeting. We would like to thank our Egyptian colleagues for their contribution to this session. I welcome you all to our historic city and hope you have the opportunity to experience some of the sights and attractions during your visit. Yours sincerely,

Konstantina Koufala HSIOIRS President
