Wellness reimagined: the vision for Layan Life by Anantara

Frederic Varnier, vice president of operations, Minor Hotels, talks exclusively to European Spa

Anantara is a brand I’m really proud to be part of. It’s known for delivering exceptional service and unforgettable experiences that keep guests coming back.

What makes it unique is how deeply rooted it is in Thai culture, and that authenticity resonates with travellers. We’ve aligned our brand with shifting global expectations, focusing on markets where luxury and wellness are growing fast. It’s strategic, but also very personal for us.

We’ve definitely seen The White Lotus spark renewed interest in Thailand, just as it did with destinations in previous seasons.

Set-jetting isn’t new, but interest in Thailand has spiked again. We’re seeing younger guests, and more of them, looking for meaningful, personalised experiences – particularly around wellness.

To me, wellness is about feeling truly connected – to yourself, your surroundings and your purpose.

It’s not just about physical health; it’s emotional, mental and even spiritual. In hospitality, we’re seeing wellness move from being an optional add-on to becoming a central part of the guest experience. Wellness today means helping guests connect to themselves, their surroundings, and their purpose. At Anantara, we see it as integral to the guest journey, not just a service, but a philosophy.

What sets Layan Life by Anantara apart is its whole-of-life approach. The concept is inclusive and adaptable.

Our guests are encouraged to shape their own wellness path – from Traditional Thai Medicine to diagnostics and longevity therapy. The Layan Life by Anantara offering is for everyone, be they seasoned wellness travellers or curious first-timers. Whether solo, as a couple or family, the experience is entirely customisable.

The Layan Life by Anantara centre perfectly complements our original spa.

At our resort, we take a seamless, guest-centric approach to integrating our offerings. Layan Life by Anantara and our original spa are not positioned in competition, but rather as complementary elements of a broader wellness journey. The spa focuses on indulgent relaxation; Layan Life by Anantara adds depth through diagnostics and results-led programming. It’s a more holistic offering overall. This is just the beginning. From partnerships to targeted retreats, we’re exploring new ground. This is a space for transformation – and a model that could shape Anantara wellness globally.
