AROUND TOWN World of Dance 2019

Since then, the Divas have been performing locally and were recognized by the Mayor of the City of Doral for their outstanding achievement and representing the city of Doral on World of Dance!

They have appeared on: Dance for Peace benefit for UNICEF, Miami Heat Halftime Performance, NBC 6 Grand Family Expo, Telemundo’s “Un Nuevo Dia” morning show, Telemundo’s “Acceso Total”, NBC 6 morning show “Six in the Mix”, the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders final tryouts at Hard Rock Stadium, to name a few! They have been super busy and enjoying every minute of it! They have also been busy at their studio, Dancetown Miami, with competitions and ongoing training!

Pembroke Falls resident since birth, Lauren Beck,

age 15, and her team Dancetown Divas appeared on NBC’s hit dance competition show “World of Dance” Season 3 this spring of 2019. The group has 15 members ages 12-15. They advanced four rounds from Qualifiers to the Divisional Final, and finished in the TOP 3 in their age group!

“World of Dance” Redemption Round - Junior team Dancetown Divas competed against hip-hop group MKAM. For their Redemption Round performance, both teams had to perform to the same song, "Level Up" by Ciara. Dancetown Divas returned to their Latin roots, with an energy-infused routine, while MKAM actually ended up adding in some Latin flavor of their own.

Still, by the end of the show, the Dancetown Divas clearly showed they came to kick a** and take names, even bringing Jennifer Lopez to her feet with a standing ovation. The group danced their way to Redemption victory. Visit @dancetowndivas on Instagram to follow the Divas’ journey!

BITS AND PIECES 7. “Third party” This can mean you and your data are being sold to other companies for marketing purposes and you'll ultimately receive unsolicited mail, email and other sales materials. Many free offers are just bait for thirdparty marketing tricks.

IT PAYS TO READ THE FINE PRINT IN CONTRACTS

How to decipher common phrases in contract clauses, terms of agreement and more.

Before you buy 1. “Free” Nothing is free. If you aren't paying for the product, then you are the product — your information is likely being sold to advertisers who will barrage you with online solicitations. Or, maybe it is “free” now, but you are committing to pay later.

2. “Free trial” It's often accompanied by phrases like “We will not charge your credit card [until 30 days from now].” This enters you into a game of “Will you remember to cancel on the 29th day?” That's a game corporations often win.

3. “For 6 months” Along with the similar “introductory price,” this is a variation of the free trial game. Maybe $39 a month for a cell phone plan sounds good to you in January, but if it's $137 by August, is that really a good deal? Will you remember to cancel in July?

4. “Automatically renews” The zombies of the consumer universe; such clauses mean you keep paying even if you don't realize it or want the service anymore. Sure, if you want the convenience, sign up, but beware if such an arrangement is tucked in the fine print.

5. “Fees” Consumers rarely compare late payment fees and other penalty charges when shopping, but they should. We all eventually screw up; the cost of such a mistake shouldn't be unreasonable.

Paying with your privacy 6. “Opt out” The phrase means companies can use your data however they wish unless you take a step — you “opt out” — to stop it. Their lawyers know most people just accept the default “opt in” setting. If you go with the product or service, opt out if you don't want them to share or sell your information.

8. “Learning more about your interests” This phrase suggests the company is augmenting what you are telling it with outside data in order to know more about you. It might “onboard” real-world data like grocery store loyalty card purchases with your stated “likes,” then targets you with precise advertising.

'I wish I hadn't' 9. "Restocking fee” Sales folks will talk you into taking a product home to try it and promise that you can bring it back for a refund. But restocking fees can be steep — 15 percent for electronics, for example. 10. “Extended warranty” Consumers can find extended

warranty costs snuck into monthly payments. The value of such

warranties is debatable, but consumers should always be fully informed about the cost.

11. “Not covered” Many warranties are full of exclusions that can lead to disappointment. In cars, “wear” parts like brake pads usually aren't covered, for example. 12. “Void the warranty” Sometimes, warranties become useless if consumers break terms that make them “void,” such as getting an electronic gadget wet. 'Legal loopholes' 13. “Mandatory arbitration” If a product injures you or you feel misled, you can't sue in a court of law; you must submit to arbitration.

14. “Class action waiver” If you've been ripped off only a small amount, it's not practical to sue a company. Instead, you might join a class action lawsuit, which combines your gripe with others'. But many contracts force consumers to waive this right.

15. “Liquidated damages” With this phrase, the corporation attempts to cap potential damages you might be able to receive if you do manage to win a courtroom battle.

16. “Limitations for suit” This may shorten your window for potential lawsuits. Check terms and conditions to understand any abbreviation of time period. 17. “Hold harmless and indemnify us” Watch out for this. These words can give corporations the potential to force a consumer (or worker) to pay the company's legal fees in the case of a lawsuit.

BOARD BITES Cover photo:

Master Board Actions COMPLETED AND ONGOING PROJECTS Clubhouse Roof : The board has entered into a contract to repair and replace the Clubhouse roof. This was done with the hiring of an engineer, so precise specifications could be provided through the formal Request for Proposal process.

Clubhouse Renovations: An interior designer has been hired to upgrade both the women’s and men’s locker rooms which includes the necessary repairs to bring everything functioning to it’s full capacity. The design also includes improvements to the Falls Room and the Clubhouse lobby. This project was combined witth furniture upgrades and flooring replacement needs in these areas.

Tree Removal: Completed removal from Majestic, Cascades, Coral Bay and Clubside. Vendor continues to remove trees from the other communities. These are dead trees or trees causing sidewalks to buckle from root growth. The trees will be replaced with approved trees that do not have an aggressive root growth.

Geisha are Japanese women who entertain through performing the ancient traditions of art, dance and singing, and are distinctively characterized by their wearing of kimono and oshiroi makeup. Apprentice geisha are called Maiko, literally "Woman of Dance”. The white make-up and elaborate kimono and hair of a maiko is the popular image held of geisha. Usually up to 5 years training is involved before debuting either as a maiko or as a geisha. The maiko pictured above is 20 years old and performs in Kyoto.

Women in the geisha society are some of the most successful businesswomen in Japan. In the geisha society, women run everything, for example they teach and train the new Geisha, they arrange the business to the Geisha as the role of okasan (mother) in the Geisha house. Without the impeccable business skills of the female tea house owners, the world of geisha would cease to exist.

Sidewalks: Damaged sidewalks are being replaced. Raised sidewalks will be shaved to meet ADA standards.

Community Access Control: New ID cards will be issued in 2020. These will have proximity read technology. The current windshield based transponders will be phased out (RFID chips installed in new cars are causing interference). A laser Bar Code Scanning system is being installed. Both systems will work concurrently until the changeover is completed.

Tot Lots: New playground equipment and underlayment was installed in Cascades, Edgwater, Clubhouse, Pelican Trace, and Majestic. Street Lights: FPL completed the changeout to LED lights throughout the community.

Landscaping: A new landscape company was hired to maintain and improve the common area landscaping.

Coming up: Roadway improv ments. The board is looking at installing a roundabout where Taft and 136 Ave intersect. This will provide for safer driving in the area. Additionally, the main roads will be Ǧ with reflective material to improve visibility.

Find out what is going on by attending either your Phase or Master Board meetings. The newsmagazine editors invite feedback. Let us know what is on your mind. We encourage submissions, story suggestions, and comments from our community. We are always looking for writers, reporters, artists, and idea people interested in volunteering for this publication.
