AROUND TOWN CRIME PREVENTION ALERT This was sent out in August of this year by the Pembroke Pines Police Department. It bears repeating. Residents of Pembroke Falls Homeowners Association, recently we have been experiencing a high number of thefts from auto’s parked within our community. The greater Pembroke Pines area is also experiencing the same type of crime to a larger extent. The suspects are male, wearing hoodies, and masks and some have been wearing flip-flop shoes. They travel on foot, hide when they see approaching headlights. They target parked vehicles and have been videotaped trying auto door handles. They look in the car windows, if they see any items inside the vehicle and the door is unlocked, they enter and steal any and all valuables. If the door is locked and they see something valuable they break the window and remove the valuables.

2) Do not leave anything visible or valuable inside your car. Unlocked cars are the target of petty thieves, as they are looking for anything they can steal from an unlocked car and convert to money.

3) Do not allow anyone to follow you in from any outside entrance that you do not know. 4) When you enter through an exterior door, physically close the door behind you.

5) If you see any suspicious behavior, or people hanging around entrances or exits, call security immediately.

The Pembroke Pines Police Department has joined Neighbors by RING. NEIGHBOR HOOD SECURITY IN YOUR HANDS.

We need your help in solving this problem, DON’T LEAVE anything valuable in your vehicle. We have experienced a purse stolen, a gun stolen, and other items. When this happens, these thieves will continue to come back to Pembroke Falls to steal things, because the reward is higher than the consequences of being caught.

This is the classic case of a community needing to look out for each other; we all need to empty our vehicles of anything that is visible or dangerous, of any value. Report, strangers, pedestrians at odd hours, review your camera’s if you have them. You may not have been a victim, but your camera could have picked up video that could be helpful to the police. We are working closely with management and have added 2 extra patrol vehicles at night equipped with dash cameras to assist, we are committed to stopping this activity, but, we need your help and cooperation.

Remember, “If you see something say something”.

Residents: Keep your vehicles locked, do not leave any property in the vehicle that is visible or could be of value to a thief. Report any and all suspicious people in the neighborhood to Security and Pembroke Pines Police Department.

All of us need to help by being vigilant and aware of your surroundings and doing a few simple things: 1) Lock your car every time you park..

Get realtime crime and safety alerts from your neighbors and local law enforcement. Always know when and where crime happens in your area and share updates to keep you and your community safe.

THIS & THAT A BLAST FROM THE PAST creature in some sort of futuristic zoo while riding in a clear five foot sphere. Not only was this appliance air conditioned, but it also had an electrical generator that powered such life necessities as a radio-telephone and a chilled drink dispenser.

Queen Elizabeth served in the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II

Back in the 1930s, society's perception of beauty was for women to have a few extra pounds on them. The best way recommended to women for adding extra pounds was to drink lots of beer. According to this ad, that is what doctors prescribed for putting on an extra 5-15 lbs in just a few weeks. Though prescribing beer seems insane, hops, which are found in beer, has been used in herbal medicine since before the 1500s.

Air conditioned lawn mower from the 1950's Why did this never catch on? The 1950s was a time for an optimistic view of a better tomorrow. What could make suburban life better than a futuristic airconditioned lawn mower? In 1957, the future of lawn mowing took a new turn with the addition of a beautiful air conditioned bubble; the rider could cut the lawn while looking like a

It's hard to think of Queen Elizabeth as young. However, at one time she was. That time was during World War II. In 1944, the then Princess Elizabeth was 18-years old. Other Royals have served in the military, such as Prince Harry and William. Princess Elizabeth advocated for herself to serve in the British military in the same way that other young Brits would have to during the time of war. Once the Princess joined up, she learned such rigors as passing a military driving test, learning to read maps, and working on repairing engines. Might sound like the future Queen was roughing it, but at night, she would sleep at Windsor Castle, rather than in the camp.

Know Your Life Saving Equipment AED for Heart Attacks Last December I had the

scary opportunity to use an AED , Automatic External Defibrillator, (the machine that reads heart activity and administers shocks to restart)to save someone’s life. Before I left Parks I was responsible for testing and maintaining the Parks AED units. Anita and I were playing at a dance in Boca, in a Fitness Center aerobics room, when we heard a commotion and people calling for doctors. I walked by the scene and saw a woman doing chest compressions, CPR, with a man I knew, unresponsive, on the floor, and realized the gravity of the situation. Every second counts when people have no pulse or oxygen to the brain. I went to the front desk and asked if they had an AED and was told no. I went looking and found one right around the corner and pulled it out, theft alarm wailing, got back to the man, set it up and on the second shock he gasped and started breathing. It was a profound experience with plenty of cheers and tears around when he kept gasping for air, though still unconscious. A few minutes later the EMT team came in and took over. Fortunately, he had no artery blockage, but an electrical anomaly, and that night he was alert and talking in the hospital, now doing well with a pacemaker. I am sharing this experience so that everyone knows that in a similar emergency there are 2 AEDs at the Recreation Center: one behind the front desk area and one over the bar counter in the Falls Room. The machines are smart, analyzing the heart and tell you what to do, and will not deliver a shock unless it is needed. If someone is down and unresponsive (no breath or pulse) always have someone first call 911 and get an AED on the scene as quickly as you can.

At The Pool If someone is drowning our first

tendency is to jump in and help them. In my teens I had a younger brother flailing at a lake in upstate New York. I jumped in to help him and he was so panicked he clamped and climbed on top of me and we both went under and could have drowned, had our father not

been nearby and come to our rescue. Know that there are Ring Buoys and long metal poles called Shepherds hooks around the pool for rescues. First tell someone to call 911 and use that equipment before jumping in; if you are not trained in water rescue, you can easily become another victim.

Lightning Prediction Systems At County Parks

our Safety Section worked with the Thorguard company installing the Lightning Prediction Systems, now the standard around the country. Falls residents can hear the siren from the YMCA Aquatic facility and CB Smith Park. These systems constantly analyze the atmosphere and produce a loud alarm siren when lightning storms are moving in. You need to know that 3 long warning blasts means a lightning storm is approaching and 6 short blasts means all clear. The alarm indicates a 90% probability of a strike within a 2-mile radius. All outdoor activities should be suspended while under alert, and people should take shelter in a building if possible. More people get killed by back strikes, after storms have passed, than during the storm; the rain has let up and the sun is out but the sky and ground can still be charged. If you hear the Lightning alarm, notify the desk so they can make an announcement, finish up and get under a roof. Whatever you are doing is not worth risking your life for. Be Smart and Stay Safe
