EPD EXPLANATION
EPD’s are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPD’s incorporate the individual animal with its averaged ancestry performance. EPD’s do not compare across cattle breeds, they are individual based per breed. EPD’s indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. Use them for guidance in the direction you want your herd to go.

The bulls are fed a corn silage based growing ration to allow expression of genetic potential. We strive for sound, functional and fertile cattle. We follow a strict vaccination program.

I asked Doug if he would speak to the origin story for our Buy the Beef Bull Sale name. Here’s what he had to say: The concept is that the driver for the beef industry is beef on the plate, thus the ”beef bull” are the bulls that do a good job of producing cattle that put beef on the plate. In this way providing producers with a profitable enterprise. Though the name has evolved only in which part we emphasize (the sale started with emphasis on “beef bull” and now we emphasize “BEEF”), our goal has not changed. JAS Red Angus strives to create a dependable product with proven genetics, that a producer can be proud of. We have a full selection of cow and heifer bulls that we are sure will enhance your herd so that you can have full confidence in your purchase. As always, we select the top end for both yearlings and two year olds. The majority are AI sired and boast ease of calving and consistency. The dams are feminine, productive and highly maternal.
We are on a whole herd health program. The bulls will have both a Fusoguard and a Maxiguard shot prior to sale day. Our bulls were weighed on February 27, 2025, and those weights are listed as CW under each bull. Invest in high quality seedstock to put more pounds on your calves and dollars in your pockets. Welcome to the 21st BUY the Beef Bull Sale. It’s no small task to be selling bulls after 20 years to the loyal buyers and growing customer base. The sale has expanded from JAS to now include CAMO Cattle and the black division from the Madsen and Nolan families. Red, black, or purple this sale has you covered for your next angus herd sire or calving ease specialist.
At CAMO we would like to welcome Holly Madsen and her soon to be husband (wife) Blake. Holly and Blake moved into our south farm last spring and Holly has accepted the roll of lead cattle herdswomen and day to day referee. All kidding aside Holly and Blake are a great asset to the CAMO team.
CAMO is a family ran program with 150 plus years of cattle experience behind it. Glen Tibbett, my father has been in the cattle business longer then the Leafs Stanley Cup drought. Dad is a staple every day on the farm operates all machinery in is semiretirement role.
Uncle Dunc works spring to fall and covers off any short falls in the winter time. Dunc takes the lead on the drill in spring and the combine in the fall. Between those tasks he covers off where needed and keeps us all at bay.
Papa Wayne takes more of a role in the winter time feeding cattle between vacations and grandchildren’s hockey. Wayne is retired from many years behind the window hauling cattle and grain. Spring and fall Wayne helps the Nelson family get their crop in and into the bin in the fall.
Grandma Cindy, my mother is our book keeper and tries to keep me organized. That’s a full time job. Grandma Joanne and Cindy also fill in with meal preps and babysitting where needed.
You will notice some higher BW bulls in this offering. We strive for 70-90 on heifers and 85100 lb calves that are shaped right and come unassisted. We have averaged less than 2% calving assistances and anything we have to help doesn’t make the sale. Bulls have been developed at Holly's on a corn silage and super oat mix alongside free choice hay. These bulls are developed for longevity in mind.
Lastly, we would like to thank Penny Rooke for her nomination and the MB Angus board for voting for CAMO Cattle as the 2024 recipient of the VanDaele award for Purebred Breeder of the year. It’s a huge honor and speaks volumes of the faith our peers have on the CAMO program in the beef industry.

It has been quite the year in the cattle industry. With calves being at an all time and doesn’t look like there is any slowing down, it sure has been exciting. This years set of bulls are ones that we are extremely proud of. They are a consistent group right from the top to the bottom. If there is a bull that I wouldn’t use in my own herd, I don’t sell him. We strive to make the cow the most important part of our program, they are the driving force. We cull hard on feet structure and temperament. These things are very important to us.
We are on a whole herd health program. All the cows and bulls are treated with Pyramid 5 and Tasvax 8. The bulls will get a Fusoguard shot before sale day. The bulls are fed a pelleted ration, free choice hay and mineral.
Nolan Cattle Co. will keep your bull purchase after the sale until you need him (he must be insured) and will deliver him at no cost.
Nolan Cattle Co. reserves the right to draw semen on any of the bulls at the buyer’s convenience and the seller’s expense.

I was going through my pictures on my phone, and I had taken pictures of this guy right from the day he was born. He has been a standout right from the start. He is the longest bull in the pen with tremendous thickness and muscling that he carries down a long way. This is a hard one to part with. His sire was the 2023 National Black Angus Reserve 2-year-old bull, and his mother has been a top producer in the pen for a few years. Recommended for cows.
A real good bull out of a first calf heifer. He is off Ellie’s 4-H heifer, and she picked out who to breed her heifer to, so I guess this is her bull calf. This guy has a real deep body and tons of muscling. Just like his sire. Again, just a 76-pound birthweight and weaned at 651 pounds on August 20 th . Recommended for heifers.

This guy is a real chunk. Big topped and square hipped with massive volume and muscle expression. This is a bull that I admire a lot. A real eye catcher every time I went to the pasture last summer. The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made. No invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.
BIDDING
Each animal will sell to the highest bidder…no by-bidding will be permitted. Disputes
In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.
CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION
The property Registration of Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made. Transfers will be completed in a timely manner by the seller and a certificate will be issued after payment is completed.
PEDIGREE ESTIMATES
Pedigree Estimates (PE) are created on the projected mating of the animals sire and dam based on averages of the two, creating estimated values that do not hold the same accuracy of actual EPDs issued from the association and should be used as such.
LIABILITIES
All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The sellers, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur.
RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS
The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connect there are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.
PHONE BIDS
Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to sales staff. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.
DELIVERY
We will assist in arranging transportation wherever possible. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.
INSURANCE
Will be available sale day. We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.
ERRORS
All announcements at sale time, written or oral, supersede any written material in the catalogue.
