The Legend of Dasal
reproduced by: Barangay Dasal officials Dasal is one of the 13 barangays of the municipality of Sibunag, province of Guimaras. It is where the Municipal Hall is located. In 1800 year of the Lord, there was a place that is composed of poor families. Living in this place are the forefathers after the Spanish regime. They plant only vegetables, roots crops, and rice. Every afternoon, they always pray to the Almighty God to give them bountiful harvest and protect them from danger. That time, there was a Tagalog merchant selling cotton clothes and different kitchen utensils. They went to the place to barter their products. They arrived late in the afternoon and the people were praying in a small chapel. The visitors asked the forefathers the place of the place. But he misinterpreted the question was what are they doing. He answered “DASAL,� meaning the people always pray. The Tagalog merchant gives full respect to the people living in that place because of their strong faith. They bartered all their products to root crops harvest because according to him, it is a grace of God and until now they call the place Dasal, which means prayer.
