The Legend of Maabay

Maabay is one of the 13 barangays of the municipality of Sibunag, province of Guimaras. Long time ago, there was a giant living in this place which is now called Maabay. According to the story as narrated by the old folks of this place, this giant was kind and loving to the native. He was called Manngaob. Sometimes he was shown playing with round big stone he used as(hole-in).

One day, he was walking on the top of the mountain, he saw a very big creature similar to a pig who kept on destroying parts of the land near the seashore., thus little by little eroded the island making the sea wider and wider. When he saw this he was very angry and he ran after this creature called Mangungugad with his spear. He took several (pang-abay-abay)or to run after, until he killed the animal with the used of his spear, but accidentally he feel down and he was turned to stone.

Now, this place is named in honor of the giant Manggaob and because of his pang-abay-abay with this animal, this place is called Maabay.
