HELPFULNESS

"Showing Gratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful things humans can do for each other."- Randy Pausch. The holidays are all about giving thanks to the people in your lives. The people in the lives of the Edmond North Key Club are the people in our activities. So for the holidays, we want to gaive our thanks back to our community. We are trying to do so by doing the salvation army bell ringing and the angel tree project. These projects are a small way we want to give thanks back to our community. The salvation army bell ringing over the years has become a tradition for my Key Club. We have been doing it for as long as I have been in the Key Club. I remember going to my very first one of my freshmen year. I remember ringing the bell with my friends and having a great time. I also remember how amazing it felt to be able to give my time to such a great organization. The annual salvation army bell ringing is a way for the salvation army to raise funds for their activities for the entire year. The Salvation Army relies on money raised in red kettles to serve more than 25 million people in need each year. And for us to be a part of it is a great feeling.Another one of our holiday activities is the angle tree, which is when we try to help a couple of families in our community. We try to be the "Santa Clause" for these families. My Key Club always sponsors a couple of families and asks them what they want for Christmas. Every year we try our best to get all the things the families wish for. We try to bring the Christmas magic for the kids around our community by being their "Santa Claus."It is rewarding for everyone involved. It is a small way for us to help the people who matter the most in our community. Our holiday-themed events not only the people and organizations that support our community, but they also help us the key clubbers feel the gratitude. When we look back and see the impact a couple of hours of volunteering did in other life, we get to see that any amount of help/support is an enormous amount of help/support for the one in need. Because of these events, we have a hand at bringing joy to others who need it.

KEY CLUB as as a a senior senior by Taylor Foster, Senior Representative 8

Going into high school I knew that I wanted to be a part of a community of people that wanted to impact their community through volunteering. When I found out about Key Club from my brother, I realized it was just what I was looking for. I joined Key Club my freshman year of high school and ran for an officer role at the end of my sophomore year for my upcoming school year as a junior in high school. I ran for an officer role because I wanted to be further involved in the club since I loved the meaning behind it and everyone involved in it. As an officer, I have made friendships with so many people that I otherwise may not have crossed paths with and have been able to be involved in the parts of Key Club that other members may not know are there. Throughout my junior year, I served as junior director and this school year as a senior I am serving as the senior director. It is bitter sweet as a senior in high school, but I most definitely will miss the community that Key Club has been for me at Edmond North. Key Club has developed and built my love and passion for serving and helping others. It has taught me that not everything I do for someone requires some sort of reward in return. These are a few of the lessons I have picked up and learned from officers in Key Club around me and also from places I have volunteered at. Without this experience in Key Club, I would lack a lot of knowledge that I believe is crucial to have before going on my own at a college campus. As a senior, it has been difficult to get caught up in procrastinating because I am so close to being done, but Key Club has been one thing that has motivated to keep pushing through until I walk across the stage with my diploma. Key Club has been such a light in my high school career through helping others and raising money for organizations. Everything in Key Club has purpose and I think that is why I have benefitted so much from it. Everything in life should have just as a meaningful purpose as Key Club holds. It is certain that I will participate in an organization like Key Club in college and continue to pour my heart into volunteering programs just as I have in my community at home.

SEASON OF

g n i v i g & e d u t i grat

a month of giving & receiving

As the year comes to an end, the holiday season is upon us. That means friends and family gather around and celebrate holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Many people say that the month of November is the season of gratitude, and the month of December as the season of giving. Our school’s Key Club makes sure that we dive into the spirit of gratitude and giving by giving back to our community. Through the month of November, as Thanksgiving was approaching, we focused on showing gratitude towards our community. During our November monthly meeting, we had our key club members draw out hand turkeys. We wanted to thank our teachers the most because they are the ones who educate us and teach us the basic knowledge of every subject. Sadly, we do take teachers and staff for granted, so we didn’t want to miss this opportunity to appreciate them. We also participated in writing Veteran’s Day letters. Our Key Club members provided colored paper, scissors, and colored pencils around the table. The members gathered around during our meeting and wrote letters for our honorable veterans. December. A month of giving, receiving, joy, and love. Christmas is a season of giving and sharing with loved ones and those less fortunate than ourselves. Our Key Club’s focus for December was to make someone’s Christmas even merrier; plus, this is one of our annual traditions. We wanted to make sure every kid feels special this Christmas. We have adopted three families through Angel Tree. In total, we have adopted seven kids. To make sure every member of our Key Club can help to make our families feel special, we notified them during our meeting and sent out reminders. We emphasized on how great of an impact that they would make on these kids. We are still in the process of receiving gifts and presents from our members. Our officers are expecting to see many of our members to participate! Our Key Club is proud to be participating in these activities as we give back to our community. I think it is important to have an organization like Key Club to provide opportunities like these events to the high schoolers, who may be only focused on their own needs and pleasure. Our officers and members cannot wait to see the smiles of our Angel Tree families. We are so thankful that we are able to give back to our community, and we hope to continue these events later on!

traditions

BY RACHAEL KINGREY, SOCIAL CHAIR

One of the traditions of Edmond North Key Club is an angel tree at Christmas time. We work with a community organization to contact families in need and provide them with Christmas gifts. As a club, we collect gift cards and toys throughout the month of December. Before Christmas break, club members get together and wrap the presents before they are delivered. It is one of the most fun projects we do, and one of the most impactful things we get to do for kids and families that need it. Being able to see the smiles on those affected through Angel Tree exemplifies the purpose of Key Club- serving others. Another one of our fun holiday traditions is our wrapping party and hot chocolate social that we have for angel tree. Once all the gifts have been purchased, members get together to wrap the gifts together, listen to holiday music, and enjoy a fun break from studying around finals week. Key Club has so many awesome members! Every month there are opportunities to do something with friends and to meet new people, but December provides so many additional opportunities because of the holidays. Key Club really opens your eyes to things going on around you that you might not even be aware of, especially through angel tree. I have been the chair of this project for two years now, and it is so humbling to be able to serve in this way. In general, service is a really important part of being happy. Giving your time, resources, and talents to others is honestly so rewarding, both for you and the person/people you are serving. Key Club is in essence a really fun way to foster a love of service and provides some really great volunteer opportunities. In closing, I would like to invite everyone to get involved in angel tree! This year we are adopting more kids than we did last year so we are going to need all the help we can get. Reach out to families and friends you know outside of Key Club to raise money or give donations so that all of our families can have a great Christmas. Thank you all for your benevolent generosity and true kindness throughout the holiday season. I can't wait to see what we are able to accomplish during the Christmas season and throughout the rest of the year! 14

'TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY Sana Arshad, Sophomore Director Hey guys! I’m your sophomore representative for Edmond North Key Club. This semester is almost over, so make sure you are getting your hours in! Time is flying by super fast and these opportunities are amazing. We are having our angel tree gift wrapping soon (all details on the agenda or remind). We have adopted 7 kids this year, three families. If anyone could bring gift cards or something on their list that would be greatly appreciated. Every five dollars is a point so it is super easy to get those points in if you are behind. I hope we can get some more hours in before break with upcoming events. Now, about fall rally, it was an amazing experience. We got a good amount of members to show up and learn more about key club. We talked about DECON and met with our LTG’s about our clubs. Afterwards, everyone grouped off and had a great time on rides. Some even stayed for fright fest. For those of you not there, the theme that was revealed was Hollywood! I plan on running for LTG for our division. I also may run for tech producer at DECON. LTG elections are Saturday and running for this division is an honor! Also our first Free To Live event was this previous Saturday. We helped fix up the garden outside and organize the supply room for the animals. Afterwards we went to the cattery and played with kittens. They told us stories about the animals and the staff is insanely kind. It is such a great opportunity and I encourage everyone to sign up in the future. Back on the Angel Tree activity, I hope everyone can make it because it is a club tradition. We wrap the gifts and also drink hot chocolate. So tell your friends and key club members to come after 7th hour and help spread the seasonal joy. Get ready for BALTO after break as well. Elden and I are the chairs for this year and we have plenty of opportunities for everyone to get easy points. Decorating for War week and BALTO week are fun and super easy ways to get points. For all of our crafty members this is great for you! Gathering a group of friends and helping out is such a fun opportunity! This semester has been an amazing experience with you all and next semester has so much to offer! Our last meeting is this Thursday and our t-shirts will also be passed out! I hope everyone has a good break!
